PREFACE HANS VAN OPHEM As the program director of the MSc in Econometrics I am very happy that the VSAE organizes events like the VSAE Speed Date event. As a faculty we always appear to have problems connecting to the real world as is shown in many evaluations of our educational curriculum. Of course, we strongly believe that what we teach in the program is very relevant for students and their future working life, but students expect more than we are able to offer. We are restricted by two factors: (i) we offer an academic program not directly related to specific professions, and (ii) the government decided that a master program in a complex subject like econometrics can consist of only 60 ec, leaving no room to schedule other elements which are also relevant to students. I am very glad that the VSAE took the lead in this respect. I even believe that organizing the relation with the true world via the VSAE has some important advantages. Students know much better what they want for their future and of top of that organizing such events also lets the students involved to gain relevant skills and experience that will benefit their professional career! MASTER SPEED DATE EVENT CONCEPT The idea of the VSAE Master Speed date Event is that companies have twelve speed dates of six minutes with the participating students, divided over two rounds. Since this is not a lot of time, the speed dates will have to be as efficient as possible. Prior to the event, the students will rank all companies based on their own interests. On the other hand, the companies will rank the students by means of CV selection. Using this information we will match students to companies. After the speed date rounds all attendants can have drinks in an informal setting. This way students can get into contact again with their preferred companies.

MASTER THESIS PROCEDURE AT THE UVA Master students officially start writing their thesis on April 1st 2019. The deadline for handing in a thesis proposal is April 15th 2019. Then, the students have four months to write their thesis. The thesis must be handed in before August 15th 2019. However, students can choose to hand in their thesis before December 15th 2019. In that case, they have eight months.

THESIS POSSIBILITIES DIGITAL TALENT FACTORY At Digital Applied Intelligence, we apply various techniques such as machine learning and econometrics to create actionable client value through insight generation. We will determine the internship topic together with you and make sure it’s aligned with the requirements of your university. Possible internship topics include building a recommender system, churn prediction, forecasting time series and sentiment analysis. You will get a supervisor and an informal buddy and together with all the Digital interns, supervisors and buddies, you are part of the Digital Talent Factory community with monthly feedback sessions, activities and trainings. The internship is for at least four months for four to five days a week at our Amsterdam office.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE The application procedure at Accenture starts with an online assessment after your CV and motivation letter have been checked. After passing this assessment, you will be invited for an interview with one or two consultants. If they feel like you would be a good fit, you will have a final interview with a manager. Optimize recommendations: For our clients it is very important to offer the right personalized content to their customers to increase relevance and conversions. Classical recommendation systems give user-product combinations,

ranked (not quantified yet) only on the likeliness that the user is interested in the product. This is already very valuable, however it becomes epic when business goals can be incorporated in these optimizations. It is your challenge to create an algorithm that optimizes recommendations according to our client’s business goals. Not only on likeliness to buy as in a classic recommendations system, but on other criteria such as profit or revenue. 2. Price elasticity: The retail market is very transparent and competition is fierce, therefore it is very important to make a competitive offer in terms of price. However, the consumer’s reaction to price changes and differences is not the same for every product. For some products consumers do not respond to price changes whereas demand for other products is much more sensitive to price changes. Are you able to create the algorithm which predicts the demand of products on any price point, given the price of the competition and optimize the market position for our clients? We can schedule the appointments in one week, but normally the interview process takes around three weeks.

Vervolgens maken zij een assessment en komen ze op gesprek, na dit gesprek wordt direct duidelijk of ze kunnen starten. Dit proces kan dus heel snel gaan! Het zou binnen één week rond kunnen zijn.

Dynamic Credit offers students the possibility to write their thesis within specific teams giving a unique opportunity to combine practice and academia in a topic that is relevant for both the intern and Dynamic Credit. We highly value the quality of the thesis and therefore will not bother the intern with meaningless tasks. Of course the thesis internship can be combined with a regular internship, e.g. 4 days thesis 1 day working. There is no specific set of topics available and we do expect input from the thesis interns. Examples of topics: prepayment risk, hedging or valuation.

BEDRIJFSPROFIEL De fiscale gevolgen van de verhoging van de pensioenleeftijd, de vergrijzing van de bevolking, een hogere levensverwachting, de digitalisering en innovatie binnen de verzekeringssector, big data, cyber- en privacy issues die van invloed zijn op schadeverzekeraars en de intrede van nieuwe wet- en regelgeving (o.a. IFRS 17) zijn maar een aantal onderwerpen waar EY Actuarissen zich mee bezig houdt. Voor deze adviesgroep zijn we op zoek naar kandidaten die hun scriptie bij ons willen schrijven. SCRIPTIEMOGELIJKHEDEN JOUW UITDAGING Tijdens een afstudeerstage bij EY Actuarissen verricht je zelfstandig onderzoek vanuit ons kantoor in Amsterdam. Het onderwerp van de opdracht wordt in onderling overleg vastgesteld. Je krijgt een begeleider en mentor die je ondersteunt bij het formuleren van de probleemstelling bij de start van je scriptie, maar zeker ook (academische) begeleiding geven gedurende je stage. Daarnaast helpt hij/zij je wanneer je praktische vragen hebt en zorgt ervoor dat je, indien gewenst, een aantal dagen kunt meelopen in de praktijk. Een afstudeerstage bij EY Actuarissen biedt jou de gelegenheid om tijdens het afstuderen een waardevolle en relevante ervaring op te doen.

JOUW VERANTWOORDELIJKHEDEN Als scriptiestagiair is het jouw verantwoordelijkheid om zelfstandig onderzoek uit te voeren voor de afdeling Actuarial Services. Je bent zelfsturend en proactief en weet de juiste mensen binnen de organisatie te vinden die jou verder kunnen helpen bij het optimaliseren van je onderzoek. Je maakt makkelijk contact en bent, indien nodig, bereid advisors te ondersteunen bij verschillende werkzaamheden. Je bent beschikbaar voor minimaal 4 dagen per week. Wij helpen

With over 1100 hardworking international employees, spread across 5 offices in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Israel, and Vietnam, we are planning to keep on growing with one goal in mind: “become the most beloved food ordering brand in Europe”. It is not without good reason that every month 25 new employees are hired. The market we’re operating in changes rapidly and is still growing, the potential is nowhere near yet exploited. THESIS POSSIBILITIES DATA ANALYTICS INTERN - RESTAURANT GROWTH TEAM (6 MONTHS The restaurant growth team at Takeaway.com is seeking for a business-minded data analyst intern with great intellectual curiosity, critical thinking skills and hands on coding experience in SQL and Python/R. This role will have the primary responsibilities of helping build out an anomaly detection system for Takeaway. com, perform ad-hoc analysis and build dashboards.

ANOMALY DETECTION With an increase in complexity and demand for online fraud detection, we at Takeaway are in the process of building out our own fraud/anomaly detection system. The person in this role will be part of the team responsible for building out and implementing our in-house anomaly detection system. The first phase of this project will involve defining and researching various use cases and the tools that can be applied to solve these problems. In the second phase we will implement 20


different techniques and compare performance to determine what works best. The last phase will involve productionizing and creating visualizations to track and send alerts when outliers/anomalies are detected.
