YEAR-ROUND PARADISE

WHATEVER THE SEASON, RENO TAHOE DELIVERS UNBEATABLE OUTDOOR FUN!

With a more than 6,000-foot elevation difference between the city of Reno and Tahoe’s tallest peaks, and more than 300 days of sunshine annually, there are infinite combinations of outdoor entertainment no matter the time of year. Northern Nevada offers endless off-highway adventure and hundreds of miles of hiking and skiing trails. Lake Tahoe has crystal-clear waters and 72 miles of shoreline where you’ll find sandy beaches and hidden coves. The Truckee River flows from Lake Tahoe through downtown Reno and Sparks. It ends its journey in the uniquely beautiful Pyramid Lake.

Summer is ideal for water activities like paddleboarding, boating and swimming, while winter is the perfect time to hit the mountains for skiing, boarding, snowshoeing and more. Mild spring weather allows for awesome dual days; hit the slopes in the morning and spend your afternoon teeing up at one of Reno Tahoe’s golf courses. As summer gives way to fall, you can keep up with all your favorite spring and summer activities, like mountain biking, hiking and fishing, until the snow falls.

Of course, you can’t forget Reno's après-everything scene. Once you’ve had your fill of outdoor adventuring, celebrate your wins at one of our many restaurants, breweries and bars.

SCAN FOR MORE OUTDOOR INSPIRATION.

The beauty of Reno Tahoe is that you can cover a lot of ground during your visit. Donning your snow boots and your party heels on the same day isn’t unheard of here. While it’s hard to predict exactly what you’ll get up to, here are some packing reminders:

• During any season, the weather can fluctuate based on where you are, so come prepared with a few layers that are easy to throw on or peel off.

• With year-round sunshine and drastic changes in elevation, it’s important to remember your sun protection That includes SPF, hats and sunglasses.

• Getting around Reno Tahoe is easy, and the streets in downtown are typically clear even in the winter, but we encourage all winter drivers to check conditions before traveling and be prepared with snow chains just in case!

East of downtown Sparks you’ll find the Sparks Marina, with access to fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding, sandy beaches and a walking path, all set against views of Mt. Rose. This diverse outdoor recreation area is located just minutes from Reno and Sparks. After a day at the marina, grab dinner at Sparks Water Bar or refuel with coffee from Lighthouse Coffee.

SAND HARBOR + FLUME TRAIL

Incline Village is home to two iconic Tahoe destinations – Sand Harbor State Park and the Flume Trail. PYRAMID LAKE

Explore the region’s heritage and the outdoors at Pyramid Lake, 40 miles northeast of Reno. The lake is located on the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Reservation and is the largest remnant of the ancient Lake Lahontan. SUSTAINABLE TRAVEL

WE LOVE OUR PRISTINE DESTINATION, SO WE HOPE YOU’RE JUST AS PASSIONATE ABOUT PRESERVING IT AS WE ARE. OPTING FOR LOCALLY-SOURCED, SHOPPING SUSTAINABLY AND PRACTICING LEAVE NO TRACE PRINCIPLES IN THE OUTDOORS ARE JUST A FEW WAYS YOU CAN HELP KEEP RENO TAHOE BEAUTIFUL FOR YEARS TO COME.

LEAVE NO TRACE

No matter where you go in Reno Tahoe, we highly encourage a “Pack it in, pack it out” mentality. Be sure to collect all personal belongings including trash, food and anything else you brought when leaving the mountains, playa, lakeshore or other spots you’ve made yourself comfortable.

ONLY YOU CAN PREVENT WILDFIRES

Reno Tahoe is no stranger to wildfires, but we’d like to be a little less familiar with them. To help keep our region fire-free, please avoid driving through dry grass, mind your cigarette butts and respect fire restrictions when outdoors.

ECO-FRIENDLY HOTELS

As Reno works to be the next “green” city of the West, local resorts are moving toward more eco-friendly hotel operations. Initiatives like installing water stations, high-efficiency lighting and appliances, and electric vehicle charging stations throughout properties are making an environmental difference throughout the region.

FARM-TO-TABLE DINING

Hungry to make an impact? Many Reno Tahoe restaurants embrace farm-to-table ingredient sourcing, so you can do good while getting full. Great Full Gardens, South Creek Pizza and Old Granite Street Eatery are all delicious options for green eating.

Travel Information

Reno Tahoe is a road trip lover’s dream. No matter which direction you’re traveling from, there are unique and memorable stops along the way, making the journey almost as much fun as the destination. Before hitting the road, it’s always a good idea to check road conditions, especially if you’re making the trip in the winter months. During snowy winters, the highways to Reno may have chain controls or even close for periods of time to keep travelers safe. For current road conditions, visit Caltrans at dot.ca.gov or NDOT at dot.nv.gov, depending on which direction you’re coming from.

Weather & Packing

When you’re planning your trip to Reno, you might be wondering what to pack and how to best prepare. Since the region has four distinct seasons, your packing list will vary based on when you choose to visit. The key is to always bring layers, since the temperatures can vary several degrees between downtown Reno and the shores of Lake Tahoe. And even during the summer months, when the sun goes down there might be a chill in the air.

EASY TO VISIT

WITH DIRECT FLIGHTS FROM ALL PARTS OF THE COUNTRY AND VEHICLE ACCESS VIA MAJOR INTERSTATES, this is one of the country’s most convenient, four-season destinations. If you’re visiting by air, Reno-Tahoe International Airport’s baggage claim, rental cars, parking and transportation are all close to its boarding gates, meaning stress-free travel. Most major resort hotels and casinos are within a 10-minute drive of the airport, many offering complimentary shuttles, so getting to and from the airport is a breeze. If you’re riding the rails, Amtrak’s California Zephyr east- and west-bound trains make daily stops in Reno. Additionally, you can travel by car via scenic all-season highways to access the region from four directions. Just remember to pack some snow chains when traveling during the winter months. Roads are typically clear, but better safe than stuck! Once in town, getting to your various destinations and adventure spots is quick and convenient.

GETTING HERE

Adventures aren,t always measured by apps and gadgets. Sometimes they arrive in a glass served by a salty barkeep and raised in the company of folks who know better than to order a Malbec. Welcome to the oldest, quirkiest, most memorable saloon you,ll ever set foot in, the ideal venue for embellishing a day of exploits in the great outdoors. Carson Valley, life served with a generous twist of raw. visitcarsonvalley.org

The fl00r squeaks, the walls tell stories and the bartender occasionally shoots fromthe hip. Care to knock one back?
