welcome from JULIE Welcome to Vi Bella Jewelry! We are so excited to share our beautiful jewelry--and our mission--with you. Vi Bella grew out of a trip I took to Haiti in June, 2010. The earthquake had devastated Port-au-Prince five months earlier, and I was overwhelmed by the desperate living conditions that thousands of Haitians were living in. The foreign aid that Haiti received after the quake did save lives but it could not address the causes underlying this heart-wrenching poverty. As I got to know my Haitian brothers and sisters, I learned that many of them had been living in extreme poverty for decades. Because jobs are so scarce many Haitians could barely afford to feed their families, let alone pay for school, clothing or housing. More than anything else, Haitians needed good jobs. My mission group and I prayed that God would help our new friends. God answered our prayers with the idea of Vi Bella. Vi Bella means beautiful life. We find inspiration in Jesus’s promise in John 10:10b: “I came that they may have life, and have it to the full.” Vi Bella is a self-sustaining ministry that provides life-changing jobs to women in need. Our employees are talented artists who live in Haiti, Mexico, or in transitional housing situations here in the USA. These artists hand craft every piece of jewelry with pride and care. We pay all our artists a living wage and provide safe, encouraging work environments, on site daily meals, and community support. Our artists use their new income to vastly improve their families’ living conditions. Our work is also helping clean up the environment. Much of our jewelry is made by recycling discarded materials such as plastic bottles, metal bottle caps, and paper. 2

Transformations All Vi Bella jewelry is hand made by artists whose lives are transformed through the gift of a job.
Individual lives are not the only thing being transformed in our Vi Bella centers. Much of our jewelry is crafted using discarded materials such as plastic bottles, metal bottle caps, and paper. Our artists transform this trash into exquisite pieces of jewelry, and in doing so are helping clean up the often littered landscapes in their villages in Haiti and Mexico.

Vi Bella artists in CROC, Mexico upcycle metal bottle caps and discarded paper into beautiful, unique beads and pendants.

WOMEN helping WOMEN “Women Helping Women” - It is more than a catchy phrase or slogan. It is something powerful, transformational, beautiful, and it is happening at Vi Bella. We started Vi Bella solely to provide jobs for women who were living in extreme poverty in a country where employment is scarce at best. We felt that by providing women with good-paying jobs in safe, encouraging work environments, we could help sustain positive, long lasting change in a way that gives women the dignity of helping themselves and their families. “Sharing the love of Christ by providing life-changing jobs for at-risk women” is still our mission statement, and our main goal. What we did not know when we started Vi Bella is that the women we employed would help affect change in our lives as well. Those of us who have had the opportunity to travel to Haiti and Mexico to get to know our Vi Bella artists there, and who have had the pleasure of working with women in our area who live in transitional housing for various reasons have also experienced transformation through the relationships we have formed with these women. We have learned valuable life lessons about priorities, patience, persistence, and faith. We have become friends with women who are truly “overcomers”, and who inspire us to believe that the world really can change for the better. We have also had the honor of getting to know many amazing, caring women who have joined us to host parties and events to sell our beautiful jewelry, or who have chosen to market Vi Bella in their retail businesses because they want to bless the women whose jobs we work to maintain.
“After my second mission trip to Haiti I knew I had to get involved with Vi Bella Jewelry. I became a consultant because I love Vi Bella’s mission and vision to create jobs for women in need and provide better living conditions in their communities; but it goes far beyond that! I also have the pleasure of working with supportive and encouraging women like you. I can set my own schedule with flexible hours, and I get to touch women right here in my community and region.” 50
