seamstress Fafane has been working at the Three Cords Center since 2010 when she came to the Mission of Hope clinic to receive a prosthetic leg for her aunt. All these years later she now helps manage quality control and the inventory of raw materials. Her friendly smile is contagious and reflects the joy employment and community bring into her life.

jewelry artisan Meet our friend and Mexico artisan, Nela, and her youngest daughter who will be in the 9th grade this year. She also has two older children and a grandchild, and has been working for Vi Bella for 4 years. Nela shares: "I thank God for my job and I also want to thank the Vi Bella staff for giving me the opportunity. I'm really glad to be able to do what I do!"

ARTISAN INSPIRED MEXICO The Evelyn Necklace is named after one of our amazing Mexico artisans. “My favorite part of working at Vi Bella is that I don’t have to worry about where to leave my son when I go to work. It’s a safe environment, and sometimes he likes to pretend he is helping me at work.” For Evelyn, having a job provides financial stability and allows her to focus on caring for her family and growing spiritually.

HAITI Robenson resides in southern Haiti. His small team of artisans in Haiti handcraft every coconut piece for Vi Bella’s collection. This is a time-consuming process that takes great attention to detail. Coconut shells are carved, shaped and polished to produce pieces like our Rhea earrings. Hurricane Matthew had a devastating impact on Robenson’s small village, and through donor support organized by Vi Bella, he was gifted a generator to get his business back up and running, continuing to work with young men in his village to create these earrings. Every pair tells a story.

fabric cutter Jasmine began working for Three Cords in August 2012. As an employee with Vi Bella now, she is one of the deaf workers who is grateful for the work and community she receives at the Three Cords Center. She shares: “I deeply appreciate my work with Vi Bella. It’s through my work I get the opportunity to take care of my 3 children and the rent on my house. This is such a great blessing for me as a single mother to be able to take care of my kids’ education and daily needs. It’s also through my work that I support my mom and two of my nephews. I really love my work at Vi Bella.”

Recycled metal bottle caps are molded by Vi Bella artisans in Mexico to create a large, rounded bead. The bead is then covered in paper and finished with enamel. These upcycled creations are the perfect way to create a statement while still being lightweight.
