Ukiwe tasks Nigerians on war against crime

geria paid him a courtesy visit, Ukiwe noted that the present state of insecurity in Nigeria called for the cooperation of all well meaning persons in efforts to reverse the trend. “We cannot go on like this. Much effort is needed from all because no social or economic development can take place in the face of the present insecurity,” he said.

HE Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), yesterday, lambasted telecommunication operators in the country over poor services, saying there was need for them to invest more in their facilities given the huge money they earned from Nigerians.He also criticized the use of dollar as a second national currency for the country. The apex bank also advocated the need for

banks to establish consumer protection units as part of measures to address some of the challenges of its cashless initiative. The CBN called on banks to lend to the real and agric sectors of the economy, while allowing the capital market to play its role of providing long term funds, saying there was a mismatch of funding in the Nigerian financial system. According to the bank, this does not augur well for the growth

Ijaw youth distribute empowerment tools

JAW Youth Develop ment Association, IYDA, has distributed various empowerment items to hundreds of Niger Delta youths in Lagos. The items include Pop-corn machines, sewing machines, power generating sets, clippers, and hair dryers among others. At the presentation, IYDA president, Mr. Daniel Amassoma, thanked the beneficiaries of amnesty among the IYDA membership for their selfless service to Niger Delta by donating parts of their allowance for the items. He stated that IYDA members under Berebigha Camp, had given non-direct beneficiaries of the Amnesty the opportu-

There should be condition of guarantees in terms of their services if their licenses should be renewed.” Commenting on the use of dollar as second national currency for Nigeria, he said, “It is very bad and improper for Nigerians to use dollar as second national currency."

OLLOWING the oil spill reported at Mobil Producing Nigeria’s Qua Iboe terminal in Ibeno area of Akwa Ibom State, teams of responders have been mobilized to commence clean-up of areas along the affected coastline of the state. This is coming on the heels of the oil release

which occurred on November 9, from the NNPC/MPN joint venture’s pipeline system. A statement issued by the company’s General Manager, Public and Government Affairs, Mr. Paul Arinze, said: “Mobil Producing Nigeria regrets this incident. Our teams are being mobilised to clean up the area.”

A statement by the family said funeral mass will be held at St. Anthony Cathedral Mission, Uromi, Edo State, today, followed by interment at her father ’s compound at Idumodion Ukoni. She is survived by children, grandchildren and great grand children, in-
