There are a number of student aid opportunities available for students from Canada. The most common are the Ontario Student Aid Program (OSAP) and British Columbia Student Aid. US Federal Loans Cardiff Metropolitan University is a participating institution in the William D. ACCOMMODATION Our International Student Welfare officers will support and help you throughout your time at Cardiff Met. Our highly trained staff provide advice about all aspects of studying and living in the UK, including visa enquiries and accommodation advice. These services are free and provided to help our students adjust to British culture and to feel part of the community. ACCOMMODATION Cardiff offers a wide range of accommodation options to students studying in the city. Within Cardiff Met, we have two Halls of Residence with individual self-catered rooms with private bathrooms and shared kitchens. There is also a good selection of privately owned accommodation available in the city, for more details about your options please visit our website.

GETTING AROUND CARDIFF The Cardiff Met Rider is the University’s bus service and that offers transport between all campuses and all main student halls and private accommodation areas. It runs Monday to Friday from 8am to 10pm throughout the academic year and allows students to travel safely through the city day and night.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ADVICE CENTRE AIRPORT WELCOME SERVICE In order to make your first arrival to the UK as easy and safe as possible, we offer an airport welcome service to all new students arriving at London Heathrow on selected dates. Our staff will meet you within the airport arrivals terminal and escort you by coach back to Cardiff. INDUCTION PROGRAMME Settling into university life can be rather daunting for students arriving in the UK, particularly for the first time. For this reason our Student Advice Centre organise a comprehensive induction programme to welcome our students, to make your first few weeks in Cardiff and the University as easy as possible. Our induction programme allows students to meet one another, key members of the University staff and you will be taken on a tour of Cardiff. There is also an extensive social schedule throughout the year including events, parties and visits to other UK cities such as Bath and London. VISA SUPPORT We have a dedicated team of staff who are fully trained in Tier 4 visas. We are able to offer advice and guidance to students about their study visa. We also assist students with their visa applications when applying within the UK. INTERNATIONAL ACADEMIC ADVICE The International Academic Advisors offer classes for small groups and individual tutorials for international students on various topics to help them adapt to university studies in the UK. The advisors also offer academic English practice classes which give international students the opportunity to develop their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in a friendly and supportive environment. 25

STUDENTS UNION Upon enrolment at Cardiff Met, you will automatically become a member of Cardiff Met Students’ Union. The Students’ Union is there to support and represent our students, to facilitate student clubs, societies and interest groups, provide students with employability opportunities, training and development and to ensure you have the best student experience possible. UMAX Through the UMAX initiative, the Students’ Union offers our students the opportunity to attend a range of free workshops delivered by industry consultants, aimed at providing you with additional skills and training – things that can boost your CV and enhance your employability. It also includes the JobShop, which provides our students with employment opportunities both on and off campus, ranging from full-time graduate work to voluntary positions.
