Hey, welcome to the first edition of UPRAW magazine. You might think were just another Bournemouth magazine trying to do something different. And your right. We are a magazine, we are from Bournemouth and we are doing something different. Sadly we won’t be bombarding you with club photos and did not want to buy all our images online, so we have gone out and had a bit of fun, hung out with some really cool people, whilst experiencing the features first hand. We wanted to make you something fun and easy to read while keeping you updated with whats going on in Bournemouth, Poole and our surrounding areas. This magazine aims to enlighten you on places and people you may not have necessarily known about before now, and show you how to enjoy Bournemouth life as much as physically possible. There is a lot more to Bournemouth than many of us may even realise, but this is what we plan to change. A big thank you goes to all the heros who helped make the magazine. Being our first magazine, we are looking for some fun, like-minded people to come join us, so if you want to get involved then drop us a line to hello@upraw-mag.com. Until next time - Enjoy!

Consortium is an independently owned skate, sneaker and streetwear store in Bournemouth which owner, Nathaniel and his skilled and expert team, have continued to evolve the shops style, reflecting personal interests and tastes, always contemporary whilst remaining loyal to their skate heritage. The product knowledge and general care towards the shops stock is second to none with this lot, and is probably one of the main reasons that people keep coming back to this place. You can ask these guys anything about any item and they will give you the whole low down from how the product originated to the technology driven behind it. We checked in with resident skater and shop assistant Barnaby, to see whats new, and what his top items were this month. As his top pick of the month, Barnaby picked out the Nike Challenge Court SB’s. He elaborates that this is the re-issue of John McEnroes, adapting the ’84 tennis original for riding the streets—or pretty much anything. Made with tougher material to take on more extreme activities, this shoe also includes a lunarlon sole which is used in nike running shoes developed with the help of NASA to create one pretty cool sneaker. The Challenge Court SB’s are only available in core skate shops like Consortium, so the next stop to get these would be heading towards Portsmouth or London. The second item he picks out is the Rip N Dip 5 Panel Cap in a multi color canvas and woven Rip N Dip logo patch on the front panel, and a black and white woven Rip N Dip logo tab.

Barnaby from Consortium

The last item chosen was the new Penfield Kasson thats just come in. This is constructed in a 60/40 Cotton/Nylon combination which is down proof, wind proof and lightweight perfect for outdoor conditions. This parker features a funnel neck with leather cord adjusters, a zip closure and press stud fastening front, with antique branded buttons, twin flap pockets to the chest, leather logo tab to the chest pocket, adjustable inner waist cinch, snap down storm flap, large flap pockets to the lower body, full sleeve styling, vercro adjusters to cuffs, contrast plaid lining, with an oversized utility pocket to the back and peaked hood to the reverse. www.consortium.co.uk

MEET ZOE LARKINS F R O M LOV E F R O M H E T T Y & DAV E

The amazing thing about this little Pokesdown boutique is everything is customised, meaning that no two items will ever be the same whether it is shape, size or colour – there is always a little something unique to pick up. Zoe Larkins is the inspired designer and maker behind the covetable hand stitched leather jewellery and accessories label, ’Love From Hetty & Dave’. A Silver Smithing graduate of Kent Institute of Art & Design in 2001, Zoe was drawn to the more tactile qualities of leather & textiles and the possibilities for original and eclectic designs. Inspired by South American folk art, vintage design and 1950s kitsch, by 2004 Zoe had begun making her own range of hand stitched nappa leather handbags, purses, broaches, and necklaces, successfully selling on London’s Portobello and Spitalfields markets. Selling from her website: (www.lovefromhettyanddave.bigcartel.com) and select boutiques across the UK, Europe and

Japan. Love From Hetty & Dave designs have been selected and purchased by customers all over the world, including celebrities, Amy Winehouse, Deborah ‘Dragon’ Meaden, and Jodie Harsh. You can find Zoe, on most days, busily stitching in the stylish and distinctive surroundings of her ‘Love From Hetty & Dave’ shop/studio, at 864 Christchurch Rd, Pokesdown, Bournemouth, a cornucopia of original designs, vintage clothing, jewellery and collectables. With a beautiful and utterly unique shop, Zoe is a vintage guru with a stunning collection of home made goodies. We bought the foxtrot collar from her latest collection, seen in the image above which we think is the perfect edition to any autumn outfit. Collars have been a peak trend this season and you can find them here in all colours and different designs along with lots of other great accessories. A great shop, great purchase, we will be coming back for sure!

M E E T L E A H E VA N S FROM PER SEMPRE

“Hi! Im Leah, I opened Vintage Per Sempre almost two years ago now. I was only 18 and was apparently the youngest shop owner in Bournemouth! I have a beautiful 7 month old baby girl called is Scarlett Rose who also comes work with me every day! I’ve always loved clothes and have known that I wanted a career in the fashion industry. My grandparents were a great inspiration to me and the shop with the most amazing collection of quality and style which you just can’t get these days. ‘Per Sempre’ came from the Italian phrase ‘forever’ or ‘for always’, which derived from a holiday my husband and I took in Rome from which we fell in love with and had complete influence over the name. There’s a great collection of vintage shops, a few shabby chic style places and new kitsch cafes. As well as a

few other quirky shops, I’m forever hearing news of someone else opening a shop, which is great! There’s also the Boscombe vintage market once a month, which draws customers down to us. Check out www. bournemouthvintage.com for the full listing on all our lovely shops! We are currently working on some reworked pieces; embellished collared blouses, studded shorts and pieces made out of other vintage items (a tie skirt etc). This collection sets to be finished in September and will be cheaper than your high street brands plus you’ll have a one off that no one else will be able to get their hands on!” Tumblr: http://vintagepersempre.tumblr.com/ Blog: http://ohwowcute.blogspot.co.uk/

BIKE RIDES with c oast

We have an amazing town by the sea and it would be silly not to make good use of it. We have established the ‘Thursday Night Rides’ where you can meet us at the Coast shop and get your bike on. We map a different path to hang out each week and cycle to various sites such as the Bournemouth Pier, Urban Reef, Mudeford Cafe, 60 Million Postcards and are planning many more to come! All are welcome, so feel free to join us (91 Salterns Rd, Poole) at 18:30 on a Thursday. No worries if you don’t have a bike, we have a fleet of cruisers and single speeds for hire, so give the shop a call or email: info@wearecoast.com to reserve one! We recommend helmets and lights are a must for the ride back, we sell both at Coast if you need to pick em up or grab some on the night.

No, these are not bank robbers, super heroes or Mexican wresters, nor are they protesters in support of the Pussy Riot band. No these are just a new generation of people looking to protect their skin from the damage of UV rays. Underneath these full head multi coloured beach masks are middle aged women battling the signs of aging by braving, with what has been dubbed the ‘facekini’. Here we see pictures of women going crazy for this new ‘trend’ in the seaside city of Qingdao in Shangdong, facing the public ridicule in order to protect their pallid skin. Through this stretchy material which is impervious to these ultraviolent rays, reveals the wearers eyes, nose and mouth only. We can’t see this catching on in the UK any time soon, I know most of us Bournemouth beach worshipers would rather grow old gracefully with wrinkly brown skin! At least we would all have sported a good tan! But then again you never know..

T R I E D AND T E S T E D In c re a s e Co nfid e n c e It’s a big claim from Biotest and confidence is a tough thing to judge. How do you perceive confidence? Is it our ability to communicate, articulate and not worrying about potential failure? Well we thought we’d give it a go and test Brain Candy up against these.. So did Brain Candy increase my ability to articulate and communicate? Yes! And it’s a big resounding yes!! My mind was clearer than ever before and this stuff put me way ahead on my mission without a worry in sight! I was working quicker and sharper than any double espresso has ever helped with - you definately feel wired on this stuff! The difference is astounding and if you’ve watched the film limitless - well it’s not the same but it’s probably the closest we’ll ever get! Re du c e S oc i a l A n xiet y I did first of all wonder where Biotest was going with this one, it’s an interesting tag to attach to a nootropic product. For the mass, social anxiety is not an issue, but for others it can be very debilitating. Being a social butterfly myself, it can still always be a bit daunting going into mass groups of people for the first little while until I get used to my surroundings. I took Brain Candy an hour before going to a new press launch, and usually I do feel a little apprehensive about talking to new people but with Brain Candy I was ready to go and felt ease in talking to strangers and mingling with the masses - there was no stopping me! I was completely relaxed, confident and ready to

take on the world. For people that feel they need to be dragged by their heels to these sort of things, this could be your answer! I mproves Moo d From what what is written in the above, its clear to see why this body supplement would improve your mood. It seems to all come part and parcel! There was a clear increase to my mood, I’m generally a happy go lucky one but there are certainly things that can wind me around the wrong way! Bournemouth is certainly known for its terrible drivers (like most places) and this is certainly something that triggers the off my road rage! But I was completely chilled out and not even bothered. Things were going so well for me to even be bothered about little annoyances such as these. Even one night, I burnt dinner because I was too busy watching Taken on TV - epic film, (food related issues unquestionably affect my mood) and this didn’t even annoy me, which normally, I would find this sort of situation soul destroying! I just popped in the car and brought everyone back a maccy’s! My mood had undoubtedly improved! Well at first I was sceptical on this product, but the guys at Body Supplements have certainly proved me wrong! It does exactly what it says on the tin. If you need a pick me up or have a certain something coming up, then get this stuff in your life! There’s certainly a buzz that gives you that ‘wired’ feeling. Body Supplements: 01202 552 598

She is open to designing all types of tattoo’s especially script and old school art. Many of her clients come in with an idea of what they want and she draws for them then and there, it is incredible to watch her artistic flair and interpretation in action. v MALTESER CHALLENGE This month we are looking for the courageous, the audacious... Here at the UPRAW office, whilst devouring an impressive sized box of Malteser’s, we came to wonder - just how many Malteser’s can you fit in your mouth!? There is no official current world record so we have made it our mission to change this! So far we have trenched for info on the most attempted and we found that Youtube video extraordinaire - ColonelJD13 can fit 28!! As much as we would like to sit here in the office all day attempting to beat this, we have decided to hand this critical task over to our favourite party planners Cocoloco! They’re always up for a challenge and a laugh so Hannah Burnell and Martyn Hobbs were chosen to attempt beating this record - But did they manage it? We caught their attempts on UPRAW TV - Hannah managed to get an impressive 18 in her mouth but what did Martyn get?

TITS

NOW We’ve got your attention lets have a look at what holds them up

It is always an arduous attempt to become the ultimate trendsetter, and there always derives a point where things just get plain out of hand. However the trashy prevail when some people try to take the sexy look ‘too far’. Jodie Marsh first hit our screens quite a few years back wearing this little number - emphasis on the ‘little’. She is the optimum of the word ‘tarty’, but I guess as the saying goes ‘if you’ve got it, flaunt it’...!? So from this palaver of wrapping a pair of belts between your boobs, we inquired into the world of the web to come across this collection of seriously unconventional bra’s! As you will see, whatever you’re into, there’s a bra for it! Not that women walk around with just their bra on to seek this desired status of ‘trendsetter’ (and in no way will the following pieces of attire make you a trendsetter), ‘sexy’, ‘desirable’ etc, but if you fancy using this method to get yourself a bit of attention, then get out your sewing kit (or in most cases kitchen utensils) and get inspired from these photo’s we found!

THE HYPE

ANCHORMAN 2 Since its release in 2004, it’s the sequel we’ve been waiting for. We genuinely thought this day would never come but Paramount have finally passed on for a second instalment of Anchorman. Now all we have to do is count down the days until the finish filming which begins in February 2012. Word started getting round earlier this year when it was announced that Will Ferrell was set to appear in character as the infamous Ron Burgundy on Team 4 News once again. Whether a complete ensemble of the rest of the crew will be joining him is still unconfirmed but we sure as hell hope so! There’s also news that Ferrel and Adam McKay are planning to write a sequel to another classic comedy Step Brothers. 2013 is looking like a great year for comebacks - it just needs to hurry up already!

SKEPTA WILL SORT YOU OUT!! Beth Kelly from Bournemouth Uni was a classic victim of frape.. but in this case let’s call it twape because it’s on the magical world of Twitter. Her friend took her phone and tweeted SKEPTA of all people, not expecting a reply from a celeb in a million years... READ THE FOLLOWING TWEETS:

So Beths now, very awesome friend explains what she’s done and SKEPTA’s being deadly serious. Beth sends him over her bank details and 20 minutes later I get a call from Beth.. “OMG SKEPTA has just transferred me £100...” I didn’t believe her until I looked on Twitter and here we have it...

So the moral of this story is, if your skint ask your celebrity hero to transfer you some dollar, because for my friend Beth... THIS JUST HAPPENED! SKEPTA you absolute legend, what a generous man, I’ll be tweeting you this time next month.

THE AFTER EFFECTS OF 50 SHADES OF GREY

It’s the fastest selling paperback in history, as well as the horniest book to come out this side of Y2K. You will quickly get with the hype surrounding this steamy romance between Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele by the time you’ve hit page 12. The triumph of the book derives from a titillating plot of overtly kinky sex scenes making the unconventional modern relationship look that ever

more appetising. Like they say... ‘sex sells’ and this book is certainly steaming things up in a bedroom near you. A few male friends of mine have recently confided in me how this book has completely changed their sex lives.

Girls reading this book have fallen hard for the erotic fantasies of the infamous Mr Grey and are taking a stand to missionary everywhere! Girls are partaking in the

nefarious shenanigans in order to recreate the passion and naughtiness found in the descriptive scenes, and sex toys and swings have definitely been added into the equation. Men all over the world are currently being surprised at home with bondage tape and hog ties everywhere - and if you’re not... make sure your special lady has a copy of this book in front of her ASAP because things are hotting up!

RN FOR GIRLS

59 | upraw

We popped into our favourite little sex shop Simply Pleasure to talk to Lisa about how this book has affected their clientele.. ‘In this trade, its predominately male customer orientated but since the 50 Shades of Grey book has come out, there has been a definite shift. More and more girls are coming in, on their own or with friends buying couple bondage sets. It’s quite liberating to see that girls

are coming out of their shells and exploring what other ways you can enhance your sex life.’ Even Ann Summers have jumped on the bandwagon, not only selling all three copies of the book but introducing a new line, increasing their dominatrix and bondage section.

A simple case of supply and demand...

A few male friends of mine have recently confided in me how this book has completely changed their sex lives.

HUNGOVER? T H E 7 W O N D E R S O F T H E W O R LD

We are about to show you all best places to party (which let’s face it, mostly involves alcohol), we are going to let you in on a few tips of how to recover the dreaded... hangover. We all get told not to mix drinks, to drink a glass of water in-between each drink and to not dose excessively in bubbles, but if you do this already - we salute you! Then again here is what to do if you don’t:

1. Milk Thistle - These god sent tablets cleanse your liver which is the bit that we abuse when we intoxicate ourselves to the point of passing out on the front doorstep (we’re not naming any names!) Take one before you start your quest to silly town, one when you get home/ to a bed (if you remember ) and then one the next day! These will certainly help ease the pain, so pop down to your local health store and get these ASAP! 2. Banana’s - These delicious fruit of goodness are jam packed with potassium which will help alleviate muscle cramps and muscle discomfort - and they’re one of your five a day. 3. Gatorade - Make sure you stock this in the fridge before you go out so it’s there ready and waiting for you. One of the US’s fave sport drinks, it replenishes your body with all the nutrients and electrolytes you lost during your big sesh, binging on booze. Best effects are seen when coming back in from your night and drinking just before you go to bed. 4. Shower - As tempting as it is to lay in our own bed of pity all day, showering will help wake you up and sweat some of those pesky toxins out of your body. The quicker you get up and do it.. the quicker you will be on the road to recovery. Always include brushing your teeth into the equation as there’s nothing better than getting rid of furry teeth! 5. Sex - Yea we said it! Besides the fun you’ll be having with partner in crime, it’s great for hangovers too! This act’s as a ‘drug’ that gets the toxins rolling out of your body and engaging your brain with some much needed pleasure centres. 6. Berocca - It’s a no brainer with this one... compact full of B Vitamin’s, Vitamin C, Magnesium and Zinc, this natural mineral and vitamin supplement, aids the liver detoxification process and stimulate glutathione (in English - this is essential to fasten your alcohol metabolism to get you over that hangover pronto!) 7. The Trusty Kebab - So were not necessarily saying get down to SNAPPYS after every night out but what we are saying is take a good hour at the end of the night (if you still maintain the capacity to stand up right) and make sure you eat a good amount - bacon sarnies are always good along with as much water as you can possibly consume! If you get a glass down you then brilliant, but the more you drink the more you will hydrate your bod and you can start recovering before you’ve even woken up!

NUTELLA MUG CAKE IN 5 MINUTES If you want a quick chocolate fix, then this is the easiest way to get it. All you need is a mug, some cake ingredients and a microwave.

Ingredients: 3 Table spoons of Nutella 3 Table spoons of milk 3 Table spoons of cocoa powder 3 Table spoons of olive oil or vegtable oil 4 Table spoons of self-raising flour 4 Table spoons of sugar 1 Egg

1. Mix together all the ingredients in a large mag whisk with a fork until smooth with no lumps. 2. Pop in the microwave. THE PRINT ROOM BOURNEMOUTH

Where: Echo Building, Richmond Hil, BH2 6HH Tel: 01202 789 669 We have found a local gem, which supplies the wow factor. In an ambient and atmospheric setting, with most importantly an AA rosette dining experience, but don’t you worry, you wont have to spend over the odds as this comes with a wonderful special offer which means you can dine in style and only pay half the price. The Print Rooms are offering a sumptuous 50% off your bills when you come and join them on a Tuesday by taking in our voucher. This is a truly unique venue which oozes sophistication and boasts lavish classical features. Set in a former press room, on Richmond Hill it sparkles with its crystal chandeliers ands its gleaming monochrome tiled floors. Serving a range of home cooking with a continental twist, the food provides a tantalising treat. Menus range from breakfast menu, Brasserie, Afternoon / High tea or more formal dining with many Set Menus.

To start, we tasted the seared scallops which were cooked to perfection. It is so easy to get these wrong but they were juicy with slight pan fried crisp. These were served with smoked garlic puree, confit cherry tomatoes, crisp parma ham and petit salad. Basically, anything with crisp parma ham aka bacon bits is a winner in our books. For the main course we chose the pan seared breast of chicken served with sautéed potatoes and panchetta in white wine, tarragon cream sauce. Even though satisfied with the amount consumed, we found ourselves mopping up the flavoursome sauce on the plate with all the chicken possible until the plate was empty – very happy customers who will most definitely be returning. At the other end of the day, the Print Rooms have also introduced their new unique event ‘Supper Club’ every Saturday night which combines delicious nibbles and exquisite wines and cocktails. Boasting an incredible atmosphere with live music and exclusive drinks offers, it is certainly the place to start partying your Saturday night away.

THE LARDER HOUSE Location: 4 Southbourne Grove, Southbourne Telephone: 0844 683 5168 Website: www.theladerhouse.co.uk You walk in, and the first thing that hits you is the rustic oak smell of the wood-fired oven, core to the bar and restaurant. The décor is infused with a traditional and bygone era, complimented by its dedicated team of seamlessly expert mixologists and cheese connoisseurs. When asking the front of the house recommendations, you can see the passion derived from the eateries origins. The staff are clued up on all aspects wether it is their well stocked spirit range behind the bar to their innovative selection of Pizza’s. To start, we began with the Charcuterie which included cured and preserved meats, their house chutneys, preserves and homemade stone baked flat bread. Decorated upon a rustic spinning wooden board, this dish provides a taste of authentic continental delicacies. For our main, ‘The Chippy’ is the pizza that Megan our waitress, came to us with as her most recommended. It is refreshing to see the staff knowledge behind the establishments food, many a time has come where staff have no idea how to recommend the food from not trying it, however here this is clearly not the case. Megan continued to explain that this pizza was essentially your classic fish and chips on a pizza, a winning combination in our eyes. The thin baked base came out served on a wooden pizza board with toppings of flaked haddock, sautéed potatoes, marrowfat peas, beer battering and deconstructed tartar. The middle of the pizza comes topped with a sumptuous sea salt and vinegar froth that completely compliments the pizza and fish and chips combo. With innovation in a dish like this, it is what really puts this place on the map. The pizza was a reminiscent of why we go out for dinner, to enjoy new experiences and encounter mood heightening atmospheres – This place has it all.

BOMBAY BICYCLE club The O2 Academy in Bournemouth is a fitting venue for Crouch End’s Bombay Bicycle Club. With a theatrical surrounding that derives from the O2 Academy’s original opera house setting, the UK indie rock band play host to what can only be described as an intimate festival atmosphere of laid back excitement. They confidently own the stage with incredible lighting, making it look like they have brought heaven with them, encapsulating the crowd with an energetic melancholia instantly crafting a sing-a-long from a tingling audience. The celebrated marvel of Bombay’s alternating genre is drawn from the diversity of their sound. Unlike many who make their way to stardom with a commercial sound and developing their music publically, Bombay’s have made their mark from the beginning of their musical careers, capturing the imaginations of their fan base through their creativity. each track brings something slightly different, making their albums varied, and us listeners wondering what is next. Their new material is what has propelled their recent success, but of course it was their big hitters that really mattered here at the O2. ‘Shuffle’ and ‘Always Like This’ clearly dominated the night with the crowd jumping along on crushed plastic cups with the lights beaming, as the music took control whilst you the noise reverberated with its infectiousness. The band keep you in true awe as they overtake the cavernous atmosphere and take you on a journey of their story with their bass and stripped back lyrics. An overall impressive gig and one you should not miss if you have not had a chance to see them already.

CHARLIE BANKS B O U R N E M O UTH D J

Charlie Banks has been one of our favourite born and bred Bournemouth DJ’s since he hit the decks at only 16 years old. Three years later, at only 19 he has already made an auspicious entry into the house scene with a chart topping EP on Berlin’s Dirt Crew Recording’s, there’s plenty more to come from a talent who has been DJing around England’s South Coast. His passions lay with bumpy house of the sort Julio Bashmore and Huxley have perfected recently, with more garage and bass influences coming from forward-facing imprints like Numbers and Night Slugs. Charlie says.. “I would say my style is quite upfront and heavy, especially when I play out. When it comes to making music, I’ll usually have an idea of how I want my track to sound, but along the way many changes will be made and something completely different usually comes out. I’m really just trying to find my own identity though at the moment.“ You will soon be able to catch him at his new night to hit Bournemouth’s Old Firestation called ‘Finders Keepers’. Keep a look out for this event - info will be coming out very soon. To get a feel for what Charlie Banks plays (if you haven’t heard him already), here are his TOP TEN tracks at the moment: 1. After All - Franck Roger 2. Freaky D - Darius Syrossian 3. Distraction (Dan Ghenacia Remix) - Anthea 4. Vision of Love - BICEP 5. I’m About - The Dutch Rudder & Mark Wells 6. End - Cecyl 7. Femme Fatale - Justin Jay 8. What Ya Doin - Makam 9. Reason With Me - Urulu 10. Lets Groove - George More

SHERBET LOUNGE G O O D BYE

It was an emotional night amongst the staff of Sherbet Lounge as they partied one last night on Monday 27th August with a drink the bar dry theme – and what a way to go. Patrons paid £1.50 for all drinks, all night as all stock had to be consumed before the doors finally shut. DJ’s Mr Hulton, Bacca, Yours Truly and James Herkes, played Sherbets final tunes until the early hours of the morning, celebrating what had been a great watering hole for the mass amongst Bournemouth. We are sad to see Sherbet go but as one door closes, another one opens. In will come Vodka Revolution, so do not worry, the doors to this building will not be shut for too long but long will live the memory of what was one of our favourite independent cocktail bars and the great personalities behind it.

WILL & THE PEOPLE The BAND

With their debut single ‘Lion In The Morning Sun,’ climbing fast in the Dutch charts its a particularly prosperous time for Will and The People. For Will it must seem like an eternity, but after seven years of relentless touring, busking and hustling the bands music is finally on the air waves being enjoyed by hundreds of people every day in Holland. Hits on youtube are rolling in, they had a single of the week on itunes and their debut album made it to number 1 in the reggae charts, looking very comfortable next to Bob Marley.

Will and the People are more than just a band. They are a way of life. Living, rehearsing, being together, who are on a journey beyond the realms of conventional popular music. YOUTH CANCER TRUST G E T I N VO LV E D The Youth Cancer Trust was founded in 1997 by Brenda Clark who lost her only daughter Tracy Ann to cancer, Tracy Ann was 21. Tracy Ann House (a converted hotel in Bournemouth, Dorset) was named in memory and the Youth Cancer Trust was registered with the Charity Commission. The object: To provide young people, aged 14 to 30, suffering with cancer from anywhere in the UK and Ireland ,a free activity holiday away from oftenexhaustive treatment and anxious parents. Since 1997, thousands of young people have enjoyed a free holiday by the sea with the opportunity to take part in activities such as horse riding, go-karting and water sports. Also to provide the support needed to help reduce the feelings of isolation and loss of confidence and self-esteem so important to raising a positive attitude to their illness, treatments and recovery . Each holiday costs approximately ÂŁ500 and as the trust receives no government funding, the support

of volunteers and with fundraising and donations, is critical for our survival. The Youth Cancer Trust is a unique charity. It is the only charity in the UK which offers this type of activity based holiday. The young people can take a brother, sister or a friend with them and are free to pick and choose which activities they would like to take part in. All the under 18’s are accompanied by Brenda. The Youth Cancer Trust evaluates its success through the huge amount of positive feedback they receive from the young people, their social workers and their families. We are proud to be celebrating our 15th anniversary this year and have plans to develop Tracy ann house to accommodate 12-14 young cancer patients each week as opposed to ouir capacity of 8 at the moment.
