If you are serious about dramatically improving your overall English skills, this is the course for you! • Separate courses in Grammar, Reading and Writing, and Speaking and Listening • Levels: high beginner to upper advanced in each skill area • 12 weeks of instruction and assessment followed by a week of exams • Enter the program in any session and combine semester programs and/or intensive programs • Most students can expect to achieve an advanced level of English in 1 year (3 semesters + 1 intensive program of study)
Academic Focus Level 6, the top level of our Semester Program, departs from the broad communication goals of levels 1 – 5 and focuses on the written and oral skills necessary for success in the English language post-secondary classroom. Students completing level 6, with a minimum final grade of B+ in each course, are eligible for direct entry to the Academic Communication Certificate. DAY

The Academic Communication Certificate (ACC) is designed for English learners who want to improve their English skills to enter Canadian university or college programs. Through intensive instruction of English for Academic Purposes (EAP), students will learn essential skills for an academic setting and acquire critical knowledge for a successful transition to Canadian university culture.
*Academic Success Tutorials will be held once a week either on Tuesday or Wednesday morning.
Courses EAP 220: Academic Writing and Composition (56 hours) Focus on writing effective academic paragraphs and essays while mastering essential sentence skills and reading critically. EAP 225: Research Writing and Form (56 hours) Focus on the process of writing research papers and critical responses while mastering critical reading and thinking. Students will attain advanced skills in comprehension, analysis, interpretation and citation required in research writing. EAP 230: Critical Listening and Notetaking (56 hours) This course prepares English learners transitioning to an English-speaking university setting with the skills needed to engage in critical academic listening across content areas.
EAP 235: Oral Communication and Presentation Skills (48 hours) Develop essential skills that will help English learners defend ideas in academic settings, present coherent concepts, speak thoughtfully in discussions and contribute to group projects. EAP 249: Academic Success Tutorials (24 hours) Seminars designed to facilitate success in the Canadian undergraduate degree (credit) environment. PROGRAM INFORMATION VISAS Most international students require an entrance document — either a visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) — and possibly a study permit to enter and study in Canada. DEADLINES Applications and non-refundable deposits must be received 30 days before the start of the course. Full payment is due 15 days before the course begins; if full payment is not received, the student will be withdrawn from the course, forfeiting the course deposit. Two weeks after the course begins, students not present will be withdrawn in accordance with the refund policy. Please inform the office if you cannot start the course on time.
EMERGENCY HEALTH INSURANCE Emergency health insurance is provided for international students under 65 from the Saturday before the English course start date to the Saturday after the English course end date. All fees must be paid in full for insurance to be processed and valid. Additional insurance is available between courses at an additional cost.
PAYMENT INFORMATION All course fees are in Canadian dollars. Visa, MasterCard, or American Express are the preferred methods of payment. If paying in person, cash or debit card are also acceptable.
REFUND POLICY All withdrawals must be made in writing. All refunds will be made via the original payment method. Please note that program application fees and homestay placement fees are non-refundable under any circumstances.

APPLICATION FEE
A certificate of participation will be given at the end of the course to students who attend a minimum of 90% of classes.
A $200 non-refundable application fee is required for admission into the English Language Program. This is a one-time fee.
If you submitted an application for entry to Canada at least 3 months prior to your program start date and the Government of Canada does not provide you with the required visa/permit to enter Canada, your course tuition fees and deposits will be refunded/ transferred as follows.
HOMESTAY FEES A non-refundable $250 placement fee is required to apply for homestay. This fee is required each time a placement is requested. A $250 storage fee will be charged for periods where students are temporarily absent from homestay and intending to return to the same homestay within 3 weeks. Regular homestay fees will not be charged during this period.

Sample Study Plans 1 Year: Academic Mastery A year of in-depth, intensive study for students at an advanced level of English with academic goals. After improving your oral fluency in the Summer Intensive Program, take two terms of the Semesters Program to reach upper advanced to academic level of English comprehension. Thirteen weeks of ACC will ensure successful transition to a university undergraduate program.
