ABOUT US

ECMS Hub at Springfield Campus, Wolverhampton

The ECMS project is an employer-led training facility designed to support the development of productivity and growth in SMEs. Originally focussed upon those organisations operating in the high value manufacturing (HVM) sector, the project has been extended and the ECMS is now able to work with any SME operating in the UK. ECMS funding has been provided by a grant from the Black Country LEP/Midlands Engine, awarded to the University of Wolverhampton as project sponsor, working in collaboration with several key organisations in the Black Country region including the Cast Metals Federation and Dudley College. Project objectives are to increase employer engagement and investment in training and skills development, including the upskilling and multi skilling of existing staff; to develop management and leadership skills; to assist in addressing the ageing workforce agenda and to support and improve the pipeline from education to employment.

Where we are The ECMS operates from two purpose-built operational hubs; one at the University’s Springfield Campus in Wolverhampton and a second in Tipton, which is home to the National Foundry Training Centre (NFTC)

ECMS at the National Foundry Training Centre, Tipton

The Centre at Tipton is used to deliver the Level 3 Apprenticeship, “Metal Casting, Foundry and Pattern Making Technician Course” on behalf of Dudley College and is also able to offer a range of bespoke training programmes including those developed to support the metal casting, foundry and pattern making industries.

What we do A range of support is available from the ECMS in addition to training and development courses. This includes business assist provision comprising 12 hours of free assistance to eligible organisations which can take many different forms for example, a training needs analysis or a process review. Support can also include free room hire at either the Hub at Springfield or the NFTC at Tipton, or access to other specialised ECMS facilities* including a metallurgy laboratory, a sand laboratory and two IT laboratories. The ECMS is also able to provide links into a range of other organisations including the University, and is regularly able to offer access to training without charge. ECMS actively works with a number of training associate organisations which provide expertise in order to deliver specialised training to industry.
