“I guess you can say I’ve always been a Wildcat. My family likes to joke that blue is in my blood since I was born in a hospital basically 100 yards from UK’s football stadium. My dad and his grandfather also went to UK, so my family goes back four generations of Wildcats. Even when we moved to South Carolina when I was a kid, we always found time to visit UK every year for football and basketball games. After spending two years at a smaller, private school on a basketball scholarship, I decided to make the transfer to the place that’s been calling me home all along. Transferring to a new school is scary because there’s a lot of uncertainty, but my experience with UK’s transfer process was actually very easy. There were people at every twist and turn, guiding me through everything from credit transfers to dorm assignments. Their enthusiasm to make the process go as smoothly as possible only made me that much more excited to start my life as a Wildcat. There’s a unique sense of community, support and belonging here that I don’t think you necessarily find elsewhere.”

ACADEMIC SUPPORT ZONES NORTH CAMPUS ACADEMIC SUPPORT ZONE The north campus academic support zone is home to six residence halls – Champions Court I, Champions Court II, Limestone Park I, Limestone Park II, Roselle Hall and Wildcat Coal Lodge. These facilities include multiple Living Learning Programs and access to The Study North and Common Grounds, located in the lower level of Champions Court I. Students living on North Campus have the best of both worlds – they are in close proximity to state-of-theart academic support and they are within a short walking distance to Memorial Coliseum, White Hall Classroom Building, Singletary Center for the Arts, the UK Bookstore, retail shops and lots of great places to eat like Blazer Cafe and Bowman’s Den as well as many downtown attractions like Rupp Arena! CENTRAL CAMPUS ACADEMIC SUPPORT ZONE The central campus academic support zone is the place to be for students who want to be near the W.T. Young Library. Students living in Central II, Haggin and Lyman T. Johnson halls can walk right out of their residence halls and cross the street to access the library of the Commonwealth. Honors Program students abound in this area. The Honors Program leadership team is housed in the lower level of Central II, along with classrooms, that make it easy to get to class on time. Students are close to the science and medical complexes and dining facilities – including K-Lair, Starbucks and Einstein Bros Bagels. The beautiful terraced courtyards make it the perfect place to relax, have lunch, hang out with friends or open a laptop and study. SOUTH CAMPUS ACADEMIC SUPPORT ZONE The south academic support zone is home to several residence halls offering both suites and traditional-style rooms. This zone includes Baldwin, Ingels and Smith halls; the Kirwan Blanding Complex; and Woodland Glen I-V. Multiple Living Learning Programs are located here as well as easy access to The Study, where academic success is the goal. Students who want to take a break from studying have the Johnson Recreation Center, Commonwealth Stadium, Lancaster Aquatic Center, tennis courts and UK’s baseball and soccer fields all within very close proximity, as well as the UK Arboretum. Delicious dining options in “The 90” are also in this neighborhood.

And if you can’t find the one you’re looking for, just grab a few friends and create it. You will have all the resources you need. The Center for Student Involvement (CSI) is the connection point for all students to the opportunities available at UK. The CSI is a place to discover your passion for service, leadership and involvement, serving as a resource center for the hundreds of student organizations on campus.

BUILD THE COMMUNITY AROUND YOU. The Center for Community Outreach is your springboard to serving the community, the Commonwealth and the world. Jump right into service during your first week on campus through UK FUSION (For Unity and Service In Our Neighborhoods), Kentucky’s single largest day of service. Travel abroad with the Alternative Service Breaks Program or help train service dogs through one of several programs on campus. Join thousands of other Wildcats at DanceBlue in the spring, a year-long fundraising effort that culminates in a 24-hour non-stop dance marathon to benefit children with pediatric cancer. If you are unsure of what type of service program you’d like to become involved in, the Center for Community Outreach can connect you through the VolunteerMatch website and provide guidance on the opportunities available to you. Student Involvement also offers OrgSync, a website that helps students track their involvement and provides direct access to all student organizations. Fourteen Kentucky Senators and Representatives are UK alumni, and many of them started their public service in the UK Student Government Association (SGA), a large and thriving organization dedicated to serving the needs of UK’s student body. The SGA president is the student representative to UK’s Board of Trustees, ensuring the students’ voice is heard. Get involved in student government early as part of the Leadership Development Program, which introduces new students to student government and prepares them to become campus leaders.

MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN. UK’s Student Activities Board (SAB) is in charge of ensuring that there’s always something exciting happening on campus. SAB brings more than 100 events – concerts, lectures, comedians and special events – to campus each year. These programs engage students in campus life and UK traditions. And if you’re involved in one of SAB’s several committees, you will have an opportunity to bring these types of programs to campus. If you have a thirst for competition, join any of UK’s intramural and club athletics teams. Foster school pride by helping plan Homecoming through the Homecoming Coalition. Or keep the crowd going at sporting events as part of Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow (STAT) and TEAM WILDCAT. The opportunities are endless. Just ask any UK student. Getting involved in a student organization is much more than fun and games, it’s an opportunity to become a happier and more successful Wildcat. Research shows that students who are involved with a student organization are more connected to their university and perform better in the classroom.
