FIRST-YEAR STUDENT ENROLLMENT GROWTH

FIRST-YEAR STUDENT ENROLLMENT

A record number of firstyear students are attending the University of Kentucky, according to preliminary figures. Nearly 6,500 firstyear students are at UK to open this fall, about 400 more students than last year and exceeding 6,000 for the second year in a row. For context, in 2010, we enrolled just over 4,300 first-year students.

We have grown from just over 28,000 students in fall 2010 to a record 34,000 students this fall, according to preliminary numbers. Our undergraduate population is a record as well, exceeding 24,000 students enrolled.

UNDERGRADUATE POPULATION ENROLLMENT GROWTH

Nearly 25 percent of our first-year students at UK are first-generation students— an increase in both number and percentage compared to last year. Nearly 19 percent of UK’s first-year student population is an underrepresented minority, also an increase in number and percentage compared to last year.
