Volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis fascinated Cyan Woodward as a child. But daunted by math and science, she started as an English major at a university in Arizona. After transferring to UAF, she switched to geoscience. “I was like ‘I can actually do this, because it’s something I really, really love,’” she said. She’s also active with the campus Christian group Chi Alpha, uses the rock climbing wall and participates in the honors program. “The faculty here are great — just really awesome, caring faculty,” she added.

We’ll help you figure out how to pay for college. Everyone can use some help paying for college. So there are grants, scholarships, student jobs, work-study and loans. www.uaf.edu/finaid/
