The town of Macerata Macerata is located in the Marche region, in the central part of Italy, near the Eastern coast. The land where Macerata lies comprehend seaside, hills and mountains. Macerata is a town with a long tradition of study and research. Macerata University is one of the oldest university of Italy, being founded in 1290. Macerata has a long-lasting relation with China, as it is the hometown of Matteo Ricci.

The institute The Institute is located in an independent villa, Villa Cola, a 18th century building, 1.500 square meters, with ancient trees and a fine garden, a perfect place for studying. The underground floor hosts the library of the Confucius Institute and a multi-media classroom of 100 square meters. The books of the library have already been catalogued into the Italian library system. The second floor hosts the classrooms and offices of the Confucius Institute, there are two classrooms of 80 square meters, the offices of the Italian and Chinese directors, 20 square meters each, teachers’ office, about 30 square meters and a secretary’s office, about 18 square meters. The third floor hosts two big board rooms (used for classes too), each one is about 50 square meters.

1月开始招生，招收成人生53人，所开设的课程有：初级汉 语班，中级汉语班，商务汉语班，中国书法班，气功班，总 共280课时. 9月份开始的下学期，招收成人生43人，所开设课程有：初 级汉语班(A)，初级汉语班(B)，中级汉语班(A)，中级汉语班 (B)，中国书法班，共300课时.
B) CHINESE EXPERIENCE CLASSES In September in 5 high schools teaching points of Chinese language teaching and Chinese cultural lesson teaching started, on the whole 10 entry level Chinese language classes and 2 calligraphy classes, involving 305 students. The 5 high schools are Macerata “Leopardi” High School, Ancona “Rinaldini” High School, Recanati “Leopardi” High School, Tolentino “Filelfo” High School and Roseto degli Abruzzi “Saffo” High School. C) MAIN PROGRAMS OF THE CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE SCHOLARSHIPS the Institute recommended 6 students who have all already been admitted, among them a one-year student and 5 half-year students. SUMMER CAMPS from July 27th to August 25th, the first “Summer camp” of the Institute was held, the number of participants were 18.

VISIT OF Madam Xu Lin TO MACERATA On June 8th and 9th, Madame Xu Lin, Director-General of Hanban and Chief Executive of Confucius Institute Headquarters, paid a visit to the Confucius Institute of Macerata University. On the evening of June 8th, Macerata University has offered a gala dinner where Madame Xu Lin met all the local authorities, representatives of the local schools and Italian and Chinese students. On June 9th, Madame Xu Lin and the rector of Macerata University, prof. Lacchè, had a brief meeting: Madame Xu Lin and prof. Lacchè agreed that Hanban and the Confucius Institute will work together to launch and support programs of enrolment of Ph.D. students, to provide more scholarships for students, to hire more Chinese language teachers and to open and run a high level Matteo Ricci Institute.
