As a former U.S. Marine, but a first time marathon participant, Siqueiros used the opportunity to familiarize himself with fellow employees he would not have met otherwise and to push the notion of balancing a physical lifestyle and a full-time job. “It’s a small community, so I walk around to different departments with the trophy and try to encourage everyone, even those who’d rather walk, to join as well. It’s all about self-improvement and it is a good way to dust off the cobwebs and get going.” He also believes that the added benefit of gaining points toward the Well ’Canes Incentives Program will entice new participants to join. Faculty and staff who register for the run and are enrolled in the incentives program receive 250 points toward their incentives goal.
Lace Up for a Stronger U Confessions of a Corporate Runner
David Siqueiros had only been a UM employee for a little over a year as a maintenance mechanic when he was given an opportunity that would enhance his experience at the University. “It ended up becoming a personal goal. I told myself ‘I want to run a 5K this year.’” Siqueiros became a team recruiter for the University of Miami Corporate Run Team in 2012.
Every year, more than 20,000 participants from local corporations, government agencies, and financial institutions take part in the race in Downtown Miami. “It’s like a concert,” Siqueiros explains, “There is just a very vibrant, electric energy. It’s definitely a great team builder and fun way to network with your colleagues.” Learn more about the Corporate Run
The Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run is an annual 5K race/walk coordinated by Team FootWorks, a non-profit organization promoting the goal of lifelong fitness.
