- ULM’s student newspaper, the Hawkeye, wins seven awards in the Louisiana Press Association’s Better Student Newspaper competition. - In its largest graduating class ever, ULM President Nick J. Bruno, Ph.D., awards 891 degrees during the 2012 spring commencement exercises. This also marked the first commencement ceremony to be webcast. Faculty & Staff Excellence - Tina Mullone, ULM assistant professor of dance, is elected to the National Board of the American College Dance Festival Association. - Dr. Terry Jones, professor of history at ULM, publishes articles concerning the Civil War in The New York Times. - The United States Patent & Trademark Office awards ULM’s College of Pharmacy a patent for a new anti-cancer drug designed to control prostate cancer metastasis. Professors in ULM’s basic pharmaceutical sciences department developed the new drug based on components found in the Red Sea sponge. - The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses presents a ULM nursing faculty member with the 2012 Novice Researcher Award. - KEDM Public Radio, 90.3 FM, wins 14 awards in the Louisiana Associated Press Broadcasters Association Contest, including eight first-place citations. - ULM’s former athletic trainer Robert Williams is inducted into the Louisiana Athletic Trainers Hall of Fame for serving more than 30 years as an athletic trainer at ULM. - Computing Center staff upgrades ULM’s new mobile app to include popular photo upload feature. - Governor Bobby Jindal names Dr. Mary Gauthier-Lewis, assistant dean for ULM’s College of Pharmacy at the Baton Rouge campus, a representative for the Medicaid Pharmaceutical and Therapeutics Committee. Alumni Achievements - Richard Harris (B.S. ‘97), an alum of ULM’s School of Construction Management, is named as one of the Engineering News-Record’s “Top 20 Under 40” for Texas and Louisiana. - Susie Morgan (’74, ’76), an alum of ULM’s College of Education, is appointed as a federal judge by U.S. President Barack Obama. - Keith Stellman, (B.S. ’96), an alum of ULM’s atmospheric sciences program, is the new Meteorologist-in-Charge of the National Weather Service in Atlanta. - Col. Joanne F. Sheridan (B.A. ’83), the Louisiana National Guard’s assistant adjutant general-Army, is promoted to the rank of brigadier general and has the one-star insignia pinned on her uniform. Sheridan, who graduated with a degree in sociology, is Louisiana National Guard’s first female General.
