AMERICAN PHARMACIST MONTH BY WILLIAM CHMELY, 2PD October is American Pharmacists Month (APhM), and this year we accomplished so much! During the month of October, in celebration of American Pharmacists Month, we take time to recognize pharmacists and share in the positive impact they make in their communities. We kicked off APhM with an ice cream social that brought together pharmacy students and faculty for networking and celebration of the month ahead. For Women Pharmacists Day on October 12, 2019, a collage was put together to highlight our amazing UF College of Pharmacy students and faculty. Through social media, over 10,000 people were reached and 1,500 engagements with the post! This was one of the best performing posts for UFCOP in the past few months. It was a great opportunity to showcase the hardworking women in our college of pharmacy. On October 17, 2019, UF College of Pharmacy students gathered at the Gainesville City Hall to support a proclamation request I submitted back in September. The request was to have October officially recognized as American Pharmacists Month in the city of Gainesville. The proclamation outlines the extensive education and expertise of pharmacists in providing safe, affordable, and beneficial pharmaceutical care services to all. It also outlines that the month of October shall serve as a reminder for individuals to consult with their pharmacist and attend community health screenings. It is important to remember that while October serves as American Pharmacist Month, our work in educating and serving members of our community must continue throughout the year!

OPERATION DIABETES: HEALTH SCREENING BY ANDREA TELLO, 2PD Operation Diabetes hosts several health screening events throughout the academic year to help raise awareness in our communities and to educate the public on diabetes risk factors and/ or management. Recently, we had the opportunity to conduct a health screening at a local farmer's market in the Bo Didley Plaza along with Operation Heart and the American Pharmacist month chairs. It was surprising to see how many people were interested in being screened. There were many individuals open to talk about improving their health. A lot of community members were surprised that we were student pharmacists offering free health screenings.

Some of the people who stopped by the booth hadn't seen their primary care physician in months or years in some circumstances and were happy to take advantage of the screening. There were other individuals that had made great changes to improve their health and wanted to compare their readings from a previous screening. These individuals shared how challenging it was to alter their daily habits, but how rewarding and great they felt after making these changes. One important thing to keep in mind is that even though pharmacists are accessible health care providers, most people are unaware of the services we can offer. By conducting health screenings not only are we showing our communities what pharmacists can do, but we also have the ability to educate and empower patients over their own health.

INVEST IN YOURSELF: NETWORKING BY CLAIRE PENNINGROTH, 2PD Professionalism chairs Claire Penningroth and LizBeth Haker worked alongside Phi Lambda Sigma and Student Affairs to host the second installment of the Professional Development Series: Invest in Yourself. What started out as a single etiquette dinner, has transformed into an annual opportunity for students and faculty to mesh and grow professionally together. This year, the event focused on how to buidl a successful brand and network.

On December 2nd, over 50 students gathered in the Reitz Ballroom for a cocktail hour with faculty, where they practiced their networking soft skills. Following the mixer, they were invited to sit down, enjoy a delicious dinner with gator-shaped butter, and listen to keynote speaker Dr. Larisa Cavallari. She shared countless stories about the impact her personal network has had in her career. She emphasized pharmacy is a small world and you never know when old connections will help open new doors. It is never too early to start building your network that will prove invaluable in all future endeavors. Thank you to everyone who made the Invest in Yourself: Networking dinner such a success. See you next year.
