In his fifth season as the head coach at the University of Evansville, Manolo Concepcion and the Purple Aces volleyball program officially opened Meeks Family Fieldhouse in 2017 against Indiana University. The facility utilizes a Taraflex floor, which is the same one used in the 2016 Olympics. Concepcion has his young squad poised for a breakout season after matching its best start since 2011, going 5-1 in its first six outings. Concepcion had a busy offseason to start the 2017 calendar year. He spent time working with USA Volleyball in April and May, representing the UE program across the country. His team also continued its success in the classroom, accumulating a 3.337 GPA on its way to AVCA Academic Team accolades. Under his guidance in 2015, Kim Deprez was one of the top liberos in the Missouri Valley Conference, finishing second in the league with 5.03 digs per set. Genesis Miranda finished atop the MVC in service aces while ranking second in kills. In 2014, senior Ashley Ring had a stellar season that saw her finish second in the Missouri Valley Conference in kills while earning a spot on the All-Conference First Team. Miranda ranked seventh in the league in kills and was named to the All-Freshman Team for her efforts. In his opening campaign with UE, Concepcion led a motivated group, which saw several players improve immensely. Rachel TenHoor set the program record with the most accurate hitting effort in program history. He also oversaw the student-athletes achieve success in the classroom as three players were named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team. Concepción comes to the University of Evansville after working in several capacities in volleyball in Puerto Rico. He was formerly the head coach at Western Carolina for two seasons and assisted at UE in 2008, helping lead the Aces to their last Missouri Valley Conference Tournament appearance. Concepcion’s extensive coaching career began when he founded the Island’s Best Volleyball Club in Puerto Rico at the age of 21 and soon after became its president. In 2004, he became the assistant coach for the men’s volleyball team at the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez before being named the head coach of the semi-professional team Vega Baja in the Puerto Rican League at the age of 22. The Toa Baja, Puerto Rico native began his collegiate coaching career in 2005 where he worked at Colby Community College in Kansas. In 2007, at just 25 years of age, he was the youngest head coach in the history of the Kansas Jayhawk Conference. He led the Trojans to a 20-19 mark in his only year as the team’s head coach. In early 2008, he became an assistant at UE. He assisted the club jump from a seventh place finish in 2007 to reaching the Missouri Valley Conference tournament in 2008. He also helped the Purple Aces in upsetting national powerhouses Missouri State and Northern Iowa during his one-year stint. Those efforts at Evansville helped him gain his first Division I head coaching job at Western Carolina. He held that post for two years while taking on the task of rebuilding the program. He implemented instructional goals and objectives that have seen the program turn around in recent years. Before his coaching career, Concepcion played college volleyball at the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez before transferring to Concordia College in New York. In 2002, he was drafted by the San Sebastian Caribes of the Puerto Rico Professional Superior League. He was a member of the Puerto Rico Youth National Team in 1998-1999 that played at international tournaments held in Venezuela and Dominican Republic and also played club with three primary Puerto Rican clubs: Club Vaqueros, Club Torrimar, & Club Arsel. Concepcion received his Bachelor of Arts degree in organizational management and leadership from Ashford University in San Diego, Calif. in 2008 before earning his M.B.A. from Ashford in 2011. He is certified in all three national coaching levels given by the Volleyball Federation of Puerto Rico and completed the international coaching certification given by the International Volleyball Federation which allows him to coach in any part of the world.



2016: Played in 41 sets during the season, posting a total of 13 kills and nine blocks…had season-high of two kills on three occasions…had three blocks at Jacksonville State in September. 2015: Made 21 starts and played in 94 sets of freshman season at UE…notched career-high 11 kills in season opener against Tennessee Tech…notched 9 kills at DePaul while her top MVC total was 7 in home tilt against Drake…was third on the squad with 58 block assists…she had seven assists on August 29 versus Niagara…had season high of 23 attempts versus TTU, hitting .348…hit .500 as she registered six kills in 10 attempts with one error at Bradley. Prior to UE: Played four years of volleyball, three in basketball and two in track in her high school career…was named co-MVP of the volleyball team while earning All-Conference honors as a junior and senior. Personal: Daughter of Rob and Teresa Giller…has a younger sister Katie…is planning on majoring in Athletic Training at the University of Evansville.



2016: Saw action in 77 sets during the season…came on strong at the end of the season, registering 22 of her 36 kills in the final three matches…had career-best eight kills against Southern Illinois and Wichita State…posted career-best 12 digs in October against Indiana State…notched 22 block assists, including five against Southern Illinois. 2015: Freshman started seven matches and played in 33 sets…made her mark late in the year, starting the final six matches of the year…set her mark with four kills in home match against Indiana State, also had season-best 10 attempts versus the Sycamores…had 21 block assists with her high tally of six coming at home against Illinois State. Prior to UE: Played in Puerto Rico for the club team Caguas Criollas...was named the best middle blocker at Norceca…helped her team to the silver medal in the Panamerican Cup. Personal: Daughter of Jose Coronel Rosado and Vanessa Gomez Cabilero…has a brother – Jovan…will be majoring in Neuroscience at Evansville and hopes to turn that into her career following her work in college.



2016: Played in 112 out of 113 sets as a freshman…was third on the squad with 223 total kills…her 16 service aces was second on the team while her 246 digs was third…posted a career-high 19 kills in home match against Bradley; also notched 18 against Louisiana-Monroe…recorded 30 block assists on the season with five coming at Drake…top dig tally of 19 came at Jacksonville State. Prior to UE: Originally from Hong Kong, China, Rachel Tam is the current Captain for the Youth & Junior Hong Kong National Team as a 5’9’’ Outside Hitter, as well as for St. Catharine’s School for Girls. She played Division 2A in China where her team won the championship of the Kowloon and Hong Kong Island District Schools. She has also represented her country with the Beach Volleyball National Team.



2016: Finished her first season at UE with a team-high 20 solo blocks; her total of 1.03 blocks per set was fifth in the MVC…played in 97 sets in 2016…had career-high 11 total blocks against SEMO while setting her mark of 9 block assists in that match…her five solo blocks against Jacksonville State was her career-best…had seven kills on two occasions (SEMO and Bradley). Prior to UE: Griffith, a 6-3 Right Side, is a native of Wharton, Texas. She is transferring from NJCAA Nationally Ranked San Jacinto College (#18), where she was a 2nd Team All-District player and was one of the main reasons that her team finished 7th in the Nation in Block Assists.



2016: Returned from injury in 2016 and was back in form for UE…led the squad with 101 total blocks and 88 block assists…set her mark with seven digs against Bradley…her top offensive game of the season saw her notch 11 kills in 26 attempts versus Jacksonville State…registered eight total blocks in three matches. 2015: Missed season due to injury. 2014: Ranked third on the team with 157 kills in her freshman campaign…that averaged out to 1.48 kills per set…finished third on the squad with 15 service aces…registered a total of 94 blocks (82 assists and 12 solo) to finish second behind Meaghan Holmes, she was also 8th in the MVC with 0.89 blocks per set…also had 65 digs on the season…started all 30 matches as a freshman…notched four double-figure kill efforts with top tally being 16 at Northern Kentucky, also had 14 versus DePaul…posted two service aces in matches against Central Michigan and DePaul…blocked 12 solo shots in 2014 with two apiece coming against UNI and SIU…recorded career-best 9 block assists at Bradley…was 20th in the MVC, hitting .242…it was also tied for the top mark on the team. Prior to UE: Three-time letterwinner in volleyball from Collinsville (Ill.) High School…earned First Team All-Southwestern Conference honors in 2012 and 2013 while garnering recognition as an Academic All-Conference performer in the same years…led her team to a 5th place finish in the 2014 Junior Nationals. Personal: Daughter of Bill and Maureen Schreiber…has two older brothers – Geoff and Neil…is majoring in Exercise Science/Pre PT at UE.



2016: Was one of the Aces top defensive players, leading the squad with 3.15 digs per set; that total was 15th in the league…had 10+ digs in 18 matches…her top total of 22 came against Drake on Sept. 23…also had 20 digs against Kennesaw State…led the squad with 22 service aces while totaling four at Southern Illinois. 2015: Started two matches and played in 56 sets during her freshman campaign…posted six service aces, including a pair in the 5-set match at UNI on Sept. 26…had 29 digs on the season including her high tally of five against Tennessee Tech and Bradley…finished the matches at UNI and at Bradley with career-best 17 serves. Prior to UE: Played volleyball at Lawrence North High School, earning three letters in volleyball...was the Most Valuable Player and Captain of her freshman team and also served as a JV captain...was a varsity winner of the mental attitude award and earned Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2014...that season saw her record 465 digs and 55 service aces. Personal: Daughter of Adam and Karen Goldstein…has three sisters (Lauren, Emma, Lily)...will be majoring in Applied Exercise Science with a double minor in Spanish and Business...has career aspirations of working in athletic training.



2016: Evansville’s top player led the team with 309 kills, 2.73 kills per set and 325 digs…set her career-high with 23 kills at home against Bradley…that came on the heels of 21 tallies at Drake…notched season-high 19 digs in the match against Bradley…had 13 service aces on the season and had three of those against Nicholls State… played in all 113 sets during the season. 2015: Had a strong freshman season at UE, playing in 108 sets and making 28 starts…finished third on the team with 217 kills, an average of 2.01 per frame…notched career-high 18 kills versus Toledo while taking a season-high 50 attempts…had eight matches with double digit kills…hit an accurate .750 versus Jackson State with 9 kills in 12 attacks with no errors…finished third on the team with 14 service aces…notched a total of 24 blocks on the season…recorded 349 digs, which was second on the team…her top effort of 22 came against Northern Kentucky. Prior to UE: Comes to Evansville after a great career in Puerto Rico…in 2014 and 2015, she was an All Star in the Power League of San Juan…she was also an All Star in the Power League in Mayaguez in the same years…named the MVP of the Jeep Championship in 2014 and was an All Star in 2015…her club team in Puerto Rico was Coamo ETVC. Personal: Daughter of Herminio Rodriguez Rivera and Mildred Cintron Pagan…has three older sisters…attended high school at Colegio Nuestra Senora de Valvanera…registered a 3.94 GPA in high school…will be majoring in Accounting at UE.



2016: Led the way for UE with 726 assists…her total of 6.60 per set ranked 6th in the Missouri Valley Conference…played in 110 sets throughout the season…had her best match against Bradley in October, posting 62 assists and 11 digs, both career highs…top offensive outing was six kills in 12 tries against Kent State. 2015: Started seven matches and played in 81 sets in her inaugural campaign with the Purple Aces…posted 337 assists, second on the team…that translated into an average of 4.16 per set…her top tally of 39 assists came at home versus Bradley…registered 67 digs on the season with her top mark coming at Loyola where she had 9… notched 24 kills in 2015 with seven coming against Bradley. Prior to UE: Native of Belgrade, Serbia where she came to the United States and began her collegiate career last season at Langston University…in her freshman campaign at LU, she was a 2nd Team All-Conference player in the NAIA’s Red River Conference…she averaged 8 assists per set. Personal: Daughter of Osman and Slobodanka Merseli…has a sister Tamara, who is playing for Indiana Hills Community College…attended high school at Sesta Beogradska Gimnazija…will be majoring in Biology at UE and hopes to become a heart surgeon.



2016: Had a solid sophomore campaign in 2016, ranking second on the team with 232 kills and 2.25 kills per set…set her mark of 19 kills versus Bradley in October…in her final three matches of the year, had a total of 40 kills…career-high of 13 digs came in home matches against Drake and Bradley…had two service aces on three occasions. 2015: Started off her UE career in impressive fashion, leading the squad with 100 blocks, including 89 block assists…her total of 0.91 per set ranked 10th in the Missouri Valley Conference…opened her season with seven block assists versus Tennessee Tech while her career-best of 10 came at Bradley…registered 134 kills (4th on the team) with her top number of 13 coming at Central Michigan; also had 11 at Austin Peay…finished with 71 digs and 12 services aces…had three aces in season opener against TTU…started 30 matches as a freshman and played in a total of 110 sets. Prior to UE: Came from Argentina where there were no high school sports, so her primary volleyball experience was playing for club teams…played for Club Atletico Boca Juniors where they were champions of the Argentinian A1 League…Her team was the Metropolitan Champions for two years in a row with the U18 team and were 9th in the nation…she also was part of a championship team in the International Villa Ocampo Tournament in 2014 while the team was also third in 2015…her squads also took second in the Buenos Aires Tournament in 2014 with her U18 and U21 teams. Personal: Daughter of Maria Eugenia…will be majoring in communications and has career aspirations of working for the New York Times…is a native of La Plata, Argentina where she went to high school at Colegio Nacional Rafael Hernandez.



Prior to UE: Jones is a native of Winamac, Ind. where she was a 4-year letterwinner as a 5-7 Setter. She led her team to a sectional title and was a 3-time Midwest Conference First Team player and also served as a team captain for three seasons.


Prior to UE: Dos Santos spent her first two collegiate seasons playing at Frank Phillips College in Texas where she worked as an outside hitter and defensive specialist. She is coming off of a strong sophomore campaign that saw her earn First-Team All-Conference honors in 2016. As a freshman, her team was the NJCAA Conference Champion and also won the NJCAA Region IV West Championship that season. She also brings a great work ethic in the classroom as she is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.


Prior to UE: Payne comes to Evansville from Nineveh, Ind. where she is a right side hitter at Franklin Community High School. She has been a part of three conference championship teams in her high school career along with one sectional championship. In 2014, she helped her junior varsity team to an undefeated campaign. Personal: Daughter of David Payne and Lisa Aders...has two older brothers (Matt and Evan) and a younger sister Gabby... will major in Pre-Med Biology at UE.


Prior to UE: Brooks helped her team win the 2015 and 2016 4-A State High School Championship. Her 2015 squad was also the High School National Champion. She was a 2015 All-City honoree for her efforts. In the classroom, Brooks is an equally impressive performer. An Academic All-State student-athlete, Brooks’ 2015 team won the AVCA High School Team Academic Award. Personal: Daughter of Mark and Jill Brooks and has an older sister Jamie...her mother played college volleyball at Ball State and grandfather Ronald E. Brooks is a retired two-star General in the US Army...her intended major at UE will be Business and in the future she is interested in pursuing advanced degrees in business


Prior to UE: McInnis will comes to UE from Harrison High School in Kennesaw, Ga. She also played for the A5-South Club Team. As a senior, she led her squad to the state championship and played a pivotal role in that run, being named the MVP. She was a 3-time All-Area Team honoree while being a member of the USA Volleyball High Performance A2 Team in 2014 and 2015. Serving as the team captain as a junior and senior, McInnis was also a role model in the classroom, earning a spot on the Honor Roll.


Prior to UE: Murray makes her way to southwest Indiana from Tindley Accelerated School. A 2-time 1-A Sectional Champion, Murray was an All-City Honorable Mention. Murray is a versatile player who led her team in digs, aces and receptions in all four years of high school. She was part of the 2013 AVCA Phenom List and served as a libero for Team Indiana Volleyball Club. She looks forward to arriving on campus where she will major in Physical Therapy.
