Why is international accreditation so important?

• First of all – it is a point of differentiation. No one else has got it in the Republic of Macedonia. • Second and by far much more important is that ACBSP / ECBE accreditation means that UACS is an institution that works on permanent self improvement.

General Information STUDIES High Standards UACS is designed and operates according to the standards of the educational systems in USA and Europe. Course outlines and programs are in accordance with the US credit transfer system (ACTS) and the European credit transfer system (ECTS). By that, the international recognition of the diploma gained at UACS is possible.4

Teaching excellence Class size 6 – usual class size is 25. UACS incorporates excellence in teaching by constant improvement and includes: • Participant-centered teaching methods • Students work on various projects throughout the whole semester. Thus the learning experience is enriched with team work on assigned projects. • UACS uses textbooks from the top tier international publishers like Prentice Hall International and McGraw Hill. 4

In general, when student makes transfer from UACS to a university abroad, recognition of credits depends on the policy of the university. Evaluation UACS strongly believes in permanent evaluation as a part of the improvement process. Students evaluate their professors at the end of the course. Occasionally students are asked to evaluate the overall UACS performance including: library, cafeteria, student services, student council and others.

Library The UACS library has the most update and modern literature from Prentice Hall and McGraw Hill publishers, as well as literature from well acknowledged experts from Macedonia. The EBSCO database with more than 500.000 papers, magazines and topics from different areas is a great and unique opportunity for students to gain knowledge from different scientific fields, as well as an advantage in their early research development.

UACS preserves the academic freedom. Specific grading structure depends on each and every professor. For every course, there's a course outline in which the grading structure is given. 8 NOTE: STUDENTS NEED TO EARN A MINIMUM OF C- (GPA 1,67 in order to earn a bachelor degree).

PART TIME STUDIES Advantages

Our creative mixture of learning possibilities allows students to achieve academic, professional and personal goals. Students can follow lectures throughout the whole year and use the extraordinary technical possibilities and support which is available at UACS.

• Structured schedule – leads students throughout the program and makes studying even easier. Students, who will choose this path, can get points from their participation and class activity. Lectures and consultancies are being organized in the afternoon.

• Flexible schedule – students who choose this option are not obliged to go to lectures. In this case, they can only get points from the exam and the projects.

Student Life at UACS University American College Skopje strongly believes in its students and the quality that they posses. The University ensures them participation on seminars, conferences, summer school camps and contests. Above all, UACS also provides internship for the students. „As an intern in the Networking department, I gained experience in the field of professional photography and marketing“ – Vladimir, student at the School of Architecture and Design Besides studying, students can take part in the sports activities organized by the Student Council, to become members of the University choir, and after their graduation to become members of the unique and active Alumni network. By joining, students have the opportunity to bond with their University, to keep contact with their fellow students and to enjoy the benefits of the membership. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Q. How to choose a study program? A. Our academic counselors will offer you their help in the process of choosing an academic program. They will also help you browse and see the mandatory and elective courses you need to finish. Q. What if I want to study, but I am currently working? A. You can study part-time, which includes special class organization, consultancies, making different types of projects and homework, as well as taking exams. Q. Are courses from other schools in Macedonia and abroad being recognized at UACS? A. In a case when student makes transfer from another school or university, accredited by the Ministry of education and science, all documents should be submitted. A certain amount of credits is being given to the student, according to the compatibility of the studying program from the previous university. Also, grades below C- are not being taken into consideration.

Q. Does UACS have cooperation with universities from the USA and Europe? A. Yes, UACS has cooperation with universities from the USA and Europe, where UACS students can have one and/or two semesters. The complete list of universities can be found on our web page: www.uacs.edu.mk. Q. Except for the tuition, are there any other costs (ex. for course registration and so on)? A. Except for the tuition and the library cost (one time fee), there are no other expenses. Q. Does UACS organize internship for its students? A. Because the internship is mandatory, UACS together with its Business Council organize internship for all students. The university's Career center helps and advises students in their internship. Great number of students who did internship in companies, soon after finishing the internship become their employees.
