y Long kicked a 38-yard field goal with 3:04 left to lift UAB to a 34-31 upset of No. 20 Southern Miss at Legion Field . The Blazers earned their third victory ever against a ranked team, having beaten No. 17 East Carolina 36-17 in 1999 and No. 24 UTEP 35-23 in 2005. The win was also the third consecutive for UAB over Southern Miss after nine consecutive defeats to the Golden Eagles. Southern Miss pushed the ball across midfield twice in the final minutes but Austin Davis’ fourth-down pass was broken up by safety Jamie Bender. Davis’ run for what would have been a first down was negated by Jason Weaver’s chop block, setting up third and 20 from the Southern Miss 41. UAB ran the clock down to 11 seconds before punting. The Golden Eagles had at least five laterals before the final play ended inside the Blazers’ 40. The Blazers finished with 189 yards on the ground, spearheaded by freshman Greg Franklin’s career-high 85 yards on 17 carries. Classmate Darrin Reaves totaled 64 yards

on the ground, while quarterback Jonathan Perry added 49 yards of his own. Each member of the rushing trio scored a touchdown in the victory as the Blazers converted 12 of 18 third down conversions on the night. Perry also provided a strong showing in the pocket, completing 17 of 26 passes for 236 yards and a score. His touchdown pass was a 3-yard toss to wide reciever D.J. Vinson in the first quarter. Long finished the night with field goals of 30 and 38 yards in the victory and is 16 for 19 on kicks for the season, including a perfect 11-for-11 on attempts inside of 40.

AB quarterback Jonathan Perry threw for 190 yards and rushed for 97, but it was not enough as the football team dropped its season finale, 38-35, at Florida Atlantic. The loss dropped the Blazers’ final record on the season to 3-9. FAU running back Alfred Morris scored a career-high four touchdowns and Treon Howard returned an interception for a touchdown to lead the Owls’ first win of the season. With the victory over the Blazers, Florida Atlantic snapped a 13-game losing streak dating back to last season. Morris rushed for 198 yards on 38 carries in his fifth straight 100-yard game. Quarterback Graham Wilbert was 16 for 25 for 181 yards for Florida Atlantic. Perry was 17 for 26 throwing the ball and tossed a pair of touchdowns for the Blazers. He also ran for a score. Leading 31-28, the Owls converted twice on fourth down during a 17-play drive that used 8:13, and went ahead 3828 on Morris’s 9-yard touchdown run with
