The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) has been an autonomous member of the University of Alabama system since 1969, and has been an intercollegiate athletic program since 1977. UAB is sometimes confused with the University of Alabama (Crimson Tide), which is located in Tuscaloosa; while this is inevitable, it is important to note that the two are indeed separate institutions. In addition, the UAB name is often altered by various media, opponents, merchandisers, etc. Please note that there are only two correct versions of our name, the acronym “UAB,” or the full “University of Alabama at Birmingham.” In addition the Associated Press sports stylebook now uses UAB on first reference, not Alabama-Birmingham. We are:

UAB

University of Alabama at Birmingham We are not: Alabama-Birmingham, Ala.-Birmingham, or U.A.B.

2015 WOMEN’S SOCCER

West Campus Field

One of the most imposing home fields in all of college soccer, UAB’s West Campus Field has served as the home of the Blazer men’s soccer team since 1993 and the women’s soccer team since its inaugural season in 1996. Prior to the 1998 season, the facility received several improvements, including stadium seating. The permanent seating -- which holds 1,500 spectators -- pushed the maximum capacity of West Campus Field to more than 2,500. The facility was expanded in 1999 to include a practice field behind the game surface. This, along with other major structural improvements, has given UAB one of the best overall soccer facilities in Conference USA. West Campus Field has seen championship play as UAB hosted NCAA tournament matches in 1999, 2006 and 2011. The Blazers also hosted the 1999 and 2007 Conference USA Championships and the 1994 Great Midwest Conference Championship. Additionally, the men’s C-USA Championship returns to West Campus Field in 2012.

scrimmage the full National Team. The Blazers took on the U.S. U-17 squad in an exhibition match in 2004 as well, while the UAB women’s team has previously hosted the Mexico U-20 team in exhibition play. West Campus Field was also the sight for the U.S. National Team’s training for their 2005 World Cup Qualifier against Guatemala. The UAB men’s team also hosted the Colorado Rapids in an exhibition game in the spring of 2005. Additionally, the Blazers have been one of the top draws in NCAA men’s soccer. A stadium-record 3,481 fans packed the facility for an exhibition contest against Clemson on Aug. 22, 2009, while a regular-season record 3,141 fans witnessed a regular-season contest against Clemson on Aug. 27, 2011. The UAB women’s team finished 10th in the NCAA in average home attendance in its first season of competition in 1996.

The field has also received international attention as the United States Men’s National Team trained at WCF and took on the Blazer men’s soccer team in a scrimmage in the spring of 2000. UAB became the first ever-collegiate program to U A B

Following a building season in 2014, the UAB women’s soccer team looks to make strides in 2015 with a team featuring veteran returners and anchored with youth. Head coach Harold Warren, in his fifth season leading the Blazers, returns a group of five seniors as well as a stacked underclassmen squad that includes 10 sophomores and 10 freshmen talents. The Blazers ended its 2014 campaign with a strong record at West Campus Field going 3-1-1 while closing out the month of September undefeated at home. The Green and Gold notched wins on the road against South Alabama and Davidson. The Blazers also took home three postseason accolades with two All-Conference USA selections and Amy Brewer receiving a slot on the All-Freshman team. With another year under the belts for the underclassmen and rising stars within the freshman class all led by senior leadership, the Blazers look to make the Conference USA Tournament in 2015, which would make their second appearance in three years.

Alanna Dineen, Paige Hanks, Angelica Jimenez, Kasey Johnson and Ashley Naumoff look to repeat their sophomore perforU A B

mance to make a second appearance in the Conference USA tournament. Midfielder Paige Hanks broke out as one of the team leaders in 2013 as she started all 17 matches on the season and finished second on the team with 10 points (three goals, four assists).

2015 WOMEN’S SOCCER

2015 Season Preview With 155 career saves, Jimenez currently ranks fifth all-time in the category as well as third in the highest save percentage with .783. Jimenez enters 2015 topping the most saves per game record at 5.16. The Juniors: UAB’s junior class consists of Morgan Key-Adams, Sarah Morris and Sharon Osterbind. The three juniors have accounted for eight goals leading up to the 2015 season with Key-Adams taking home Conference USA Second Team honors last season. Midfielder Key-Adams has started 30 of the 34 games she has appeared entering her junior campaign and has four goals and two assists in her Blazer career. The 2014 season saw Key-Adams record her first multi-goal game and she looks to be one of UAB’s offensive threats in 2015. Midfielder Morris has appeared in 26 games while making two starts. Proving to be a spark off the bench for the Blazer offense, Morris has scored two goals and two assists with her first career points coming last season.

Midfielder Katherine Foster started eight of 15 matches. She recorded her first points of her career with an assist at Louisiana Tech. Midfielder Rachel Green made four appearances to lead all freshmen with six points (2 goals, 2 assists). Goalkeeper Sydney Nordan, midfielder Alex Otto and defender Morgan Terry enter 2015 after sitting out as freshmen. The Freshmen: The Blazers welcome one of the largest freshman classes ever in 2015, including 10 newcomers. Five hail from the state of Georgia, one from Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky and Mississippi respectively. The frehsman class also features one international student hailing from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Warren brought in a talented offensive class with four of the newcomers playing midfield and two forwards. Three are defenders and one goalkeeper join the Blazers for the 2015 season. The Schedule: Three participants from the 2014 NCAA Tournament highlight the UAB women’s soccer’s 2015 schedule.

Sharon Osterbind, a forward, enters 2015 with 12 appearances on the pitch with two career goals.

The Blazers will face Auburn, Rice and Mercer - all NCAA Tournament teams from a season ago during the 2015 campaign.

The Sophomores:

UAB will play eight home matches at West Campus Field, with the first set for Aug. 30 against Memphis. The Blazers will also host Coastal Carolina and Louisville in non-conference, home matches. Conference USA members Middle Tennessee, Louisiana Tech, Marshall, WKU and Southern Miss will also make trips to Birmingham to round out the Blazers’ home slate.

Ten sophomores return for UAB’s 2015 season, led by Amy Brewer, Bri Kuestersteffen and Meredith Schertzinger. All three defensive players help lead the Blazers to five shutouts in 2014. Defender Brewer was named to the All-Conference USA Freshman Team following the 2014 season. She started in 15 of UAB’s 17 matches and totaled her first collegiate foal against UTSA with 50 percent of her shots on frame. Brewer logged over 1,200 minutes in 2014. Kuestersteffen also made an immediate impact on the Blazer’s defensive staff as a freshman with the defender starting in all 17 matches. She led all freshmen with over 1,400 minutes logged with one assist and eight shots. Schertzinger, a defender, played an integral role to the Blazer backline as a freshman with 14 starts and racking up over 1,100 minutes on the pitch.

The season begins on Aug. 21 when UAB travels to Austin Peay, before hitting the road a week later to face Auburn (Aug. 28). UAB will face its remaining non-conference opponents in the month of September with back-to-back road matches facing Mercer (Sept. 13) and Chattanooga (Sept. 18). 2015 WOMEN’S SOCCER

Coaching Staff

Harold Warren Head Coach • Fifth Season Cal Poly Pomona • 2002 Harold Warren, a member of the 2007 national championship coaching staff at USC, was named head coach of the UAB women’s soccer program on December 29, 2010.

In 2013, UAB reached the 10-win plateau for the first time since the 2009 season, and 2013 marked the fifth 10win season for the program since 2000. Four Blazers also earned All-Conference USA Honors, as senior Jasmine Kauka and sophomore Paige Hanks earned All-Conference Third Team honors, while

Warren took over a UAB program that had been guided for 15 years by Paul Harbin, who retired following the 2010 season.

THE WARREN FILE

After leading the Blazers to an 8-29-1 record in his first two seasons on campus, Warren completed a turnaround season in 2013 as he led UAB to an 117-2 record. It marked just the seventh season in which the Green and Gold reached 11 wins, dating back to the inaugural season in 1996. In 2014, Warren guided three Blazers to All-Conference USA selections, led by Mary Catherine Combs and Morgan Key-Adams’ selection to the second team, while Amy Brewer was named to the C-USA All-Freshman Team. One of the highlights of 2014 was three-straight shutouts by the Blazers in the middle portion of the schedule. Morgan-Key Adams and Kimberly Fincher earned a spot on the All-Freshman Team. While a member of the coaching staff at USC, Warren helped turn the Trojans into one of the most successful programs in the nation. One of Warren’s primary responsibilities with USC was working with the defense. The Trojans captured the 2007 NCAA Championship, finishing with a 20-3-2 record as they recorded 15 shutouts and allowed only 13 goals during the season. In the four years Warren was on staff at USC, the Trojans earned berths in the NCAA Tournament each of those seasons while compiling a cumulative record of 61-20-10. Prior to joining the staff at USC, Warren spent four seasons at the University of Arizona. He helped the Wildcats to an NCAA Third Round appearance in 2005. In his four seasons with the Wildcats, Arizona posted a 40-35-7 overall mark. Before arriving at Arizona, Warren served one year as an assistant at UC Irvine in 2002, where he was also responsible for directing the UC Irvine Soccer Academy. From 2001-03, Warren was the assistant coach for the California Olympic Development Program’s 16-17 age group, and was an ODP scout for Southern California male and female talent.

Coaching Staff and ODP coaching, heading up the `89 Arizona ODP and the U-15 Arizona Rush Nike Team while in Tucson. He also is a U.S. Soccer Federation licensed coach. As a player, Warren was a defender and a forward at Riverside Community College before transferring to Cal State Fullerton in 1989. He then transferred to Cal Poly Pomona, where he graduated with a bachelor’s of science in communications in 2002. His coach at USC, Ali Khosroshahin, said he has no doubt Warren is ready to lead his own program.

Warren spent 17 years coaching at the club level for boys and girls teams ranging from 10-19. He won league championships with the Riverside Soccer Club and Long Beach Sidekicks, and helped the West Coast Stingers to a Surf Cup semifinal. From 1991-92, he was the head coach for the boys varsity team at Savanna High School in Anaheim.

“Harold has been ready for this opportunity for a long time,” said Khosroshahin, who has been USC’s head coach for four seasons. “When I became the head coach at SC, Harold was at Arizona and the first call I made was to him about joining our program. He has a great handle on recruiting nationally. UAB is getting one of the best coaches in the country. I’m disappointed he is leaving our program, but I am also extremely excited for Harold.”

UAH featured six all-conference selections, a Freshman of the Year selection and four players who earned all-region status. The Chargers totaled a 5-10-5 record in 2013 in Linquist’s final season with UAH. Cosby also handled many of the day-to-day operations for Francis Marion, including the coordination of team travel and the organization of game day setup while monitoring academics and academic support for the student-athletes. Cosby gained additional experience in 2014 as the head coach of the Florence Soccer Association U15 Girls Club Team, which qualified for the 2014 State Cup. She continued to build her coaching resume in 2014 with experience at the South Carolina Olympic Development Program.
