Media Information Note To The Media The 2011 UAB Football Media Guide has been assembled in an effort to assist you in your coverage of the Blazers this fall and throughout the year. We have tried to anticipate many of your questions and hope the answers can easily be found on the following pages. However, if you have additional questions or needs, please do not hesitate to contact the UAB Athletics Media Relations Office (205/934-0722). We appreciate your interest in UAB football and look forward to working with you throughout the year. We have certain policies and procedures that we ask you to abide by. These policies and procedures are designed to take your needs as well as the needs of our student-athletes and coaches into consideration and create a good working situation for all.

Media must contact the Athletics Media Relations Office ahead of time when planning to attend practice and to confirm practice times, etc. Contact the Athletics Media Relations Office with specific interview requests. Taped interviews may be conducted before or after practice only with prior arrangement through the Media Relations Office.

Coach Interviews All requests for interviews with head coach Neil Callaway and his staff should be made through the Athletics Media Relations Office. Please contact Associate AD for Media Relations Norm Reilly to make the necessary arrangements. Coach Callaway is generally available for a few minutes prior to practice and immediately after practice.

Social Media Websites UAB Athletics has quickly developed its social media network. Fans and media who follow the Blazers can follow the UAB program through several social media web sites. The social media websites work in conjunction with UABsports.com, the official online source for Blazer athletics.

Player Interviews Interviews with our student-athletes are encouraged. All player interviews, without exception, must be arranged through the Media Relations Office. This policy is intended to ensure that all requests are filled, as well to ensure that interviews are conducted at the best time for both the media representative and the player. Players are usually available after practice, depending upon class schedules. During game weeks, no player interviews will be allowed after Wednesday. For UAB’s two Thursday night game this season, the cutoff date for player interviews for that week will be earlier and will be announced at a later time. Telephone interviews may also be arranged. Every effort will be made to arrange telephone interviews, but player telephone numbers will not be given out. Student-athletes are instructed not to participate in telephone interviews unless they are arranged through the Athletics Media Relations Office. Football Practices On most days during the season, UAB football practices are open to the media only for the first 30

Dorms, Locker Rooms & Training Rooms Student-athletes’ dorm rooms and apartments, the locker room, the training rooms and weight rooms are off limits at all times to everyone except authorized personnel. The same policy applies to the UAB locker room at Legion Field and at road venues.

When becoming a fan of UAB Athletics on Facebook (http:// www.facebook.com/UAB.Blazers), followers of the Blazers will have access to information and the ability to receive news and notices, video features, special announcements and plenty more. UAB Athletics also operates a Twitter account (http://twitter.com/UABathletics), and this service promises to deliver the most up-to-date news and notes on the Blazers. Fans will receive frequent updates about the happenings in UAB Athletics. Followers can also sign up to have updates sent directly to their mobile phones. http://www.youtube. com/UABathletics is yet another social media outlet that Blazer fans utilize to gain access to video features, press conferences and video updates from other athletic events. Fans and media are encouraged to join these networks to follow the Blazers. 4
