Director of Operations Tim Waller Third Season at UAB | 28th Season Overall | Western Michigan - 1979
T
im Waller is in his third season as the director of operations for the UAB men’s basketball team. A well-respected administrator and former head coach, Waller handles team travel arrangements, scheduling, budgeting and other duties as assigned for the Blazer program. On the court, Waller was a successful college coach for over 25 years. He has been part of five conference championship teams at three NCAA Division I schools. Waller joined the Blazers’ men’s basketball program after a two-year stint as head coach at Stillman College. Prior to that, Waller spent three seasons (2003-06) as director of basketball operations at Nebraska, where he was part of a staff that made two postseason appearances during his term there. Waller arrived in Lincoln, Neb. after serving five years at Knoxville College in Knoxville,
Tenn., where he was the men’s basketball coach (1998-03). While at Knoxville College, his teams earned a 97-61 record over five seasons, including a school record for wins and winning percentage with a 23-8 record in 2001-02. Waller served as regional director of the Black Coaches Association (1988-90) and Chairman of the Assistant Coaches Committee (1989-90) of the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Waller served five years overall (1986-91) on the committee. Previously Waller was the associate head coach at Idaho State (1997-98) and an assistant coach at Central Michigan (1996-97), Alabama State (1995-96) and Howard University (1991-95). He began his coaching career at Elmhurst College (1978-79), before moving to Western Michigan (1979-82), Eastern Illinois (1982-84) and then Miami (Ohio) (1984-91). A native of Detroit, Waller earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from Western Michigan in 1979. He and his wife, Camille, were married in 2005 and their family includes sons Joel, Dale and Nate and daughters Kellie and Camille.
