Open day tour of Snap Snap Education, a centre for children with special needs that specialises in autism and learning disabilities, is presenting its annual open day on Thursday 22 November at 9 De Dam Street in Vierlanden, Durbanville. The open day will be presented from 09:30 to 12:30. The number of children being diagnosed with autistic spectrum disorder is increasing rapidly. Snap offers early intervention programmes and foundation phase schooling from Grade 0 to 3, based on the curriculum of the Western Cape Education Department. Snap Education invites all par-
ents, educational psychologists, paediatricians, occupational therapists, speech and play therapists, as well as other people working with children on the autism spectrum to attend. The open day includes a tour of the facilities and a presentation on the Snap early intervention programme, training courses, as well as a tour of the Snap Academy. Training Room keeps growing Derek Pead has been appointed CEO of e-learning design and development company The Training Room Online. The former executive director at Metropolitan Life and current CEO of Lion of Africa Life Assurance Company, who has served as chairman at The Training Room Online since August 2011, will bring his extensive leadership experience to the strategic running of the company starting 1 January next year. “We believe South Africa is going to become a global destination for
e-learning and The Training Room Online is going to lead the way,” says Kirsty Chadwick, MD and founder. “We have seen exponential growth over the last 24 months, having expanded nationally and increased our workforce from eight to 48. With Derek Pead at the helm, we will continue this rate of growth and we will go on to be a driving force in the local and international industry.” Pead will bring extensive experience in financial services and business coaching to The Training Room Online. He has served not only on the boards of Metropolitan
Holdings but many of its subsidiaries too. In addition, he is a professional executive coach who has coached executives from a number of high profile companies and served as a mentor for the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Fellowship Programme since its inception. “The future of e-learning is highly promising,” says Pead. “It’s a growth industry that’s seeing increasing investment by major players in the mining, financial services and retail industries, globally and locally.
