Welcome Live Theatre Winchester, which incorporates both Theatre Royal Winchester and Hat Fair, now has a brand new vision, mission and set of core values. The whole staff and board have worked on this together and we are proud to share the outcome with you. Live Theatre Winchester’s new core values are:

Welcoming, Fun, Brave, Passionate, Trustworthy and Inclusive.

We will be working hard to develop ourselves and our building to live up to these values over the next year. Our vision is:

Communities delighted and united by live creative experiences.

Our mission is:

To connect the people of Winchester and beyond, through shared performance and participation, both indoors and outdoors.

We believe in their power to bring communities together, unlock creative potential and offer fresh perspectives.

There! We have said it out loud now! And this autumn there is no shortage of shows to delight audiences and fill the theatre with laughter. Yes, lots of excellent stand up comedy but also Noël Coward’s Private Lives, Wisdom of a Fool, Showstopper! and, all the way from New Zealand, Promise and Promiscuity. We are delighted to bookend the season with our Open Weekend in September and our fabulous traditional Panto, Peter Pan in December as both seek to bring communities together. Performance can provide us with new perspectives as well as merely entertaining. To that end I am delighted to recommend: Joli Vyann’s Imbalance, which explores our technology-obsessed lives, a South African urban retelling of The Tempest and the extraordinary Motionhouse’s Charge.

I have barely touched the surface! There are over 40 separate performances for you to come together and enjoy in our beautiful, intimate Theatre Royal. I look forward to seeing you this autumn. Do come and say hello! Deryck Newland, Chief Executive

A beguiling and jocular soirée of magic, music and dance. This witty and absorbing visual spectacle conjures the all but forgotten stage show of six has-been performers. Man, Woman, the Twins, Pet and the Other One present misremembered routines and hazily recollected punch-lines in a complex and tightly knit choreography of objects. The result is an eccentric, surreal and often hilarious theatrical experience.

From the electrical charge that sparks human life, to the beating of our hearts and the memories we make, six performers use dance and acrobatics to delve deep into the human body, tracing the incredible story of energy in our lives. Digital projections create a world on stage where dancers and images interact seamlessly, bringing to life stories of energy in our own bodies and humans as energy manipulators.
