Are you ready for a relationship that is going to lead somewhere without you being led on? It’s time to start weeding out the commitment phobics and put your time and effort into men that are looking for the kind of relationship you want -- one that has a future. If you’re interested in getting married, ignore these at your own risk. Here’s what to look for: 1. His friends are married If you are interested in a guy, check out his friends’ left hands to see if they have wedding rings on. Research has show that if his friends are already married, he’s more likely to get married. If all of his friends are still single and in the “party-with-the-boys” phase, that’s a bad sign. 2. He’s financially secure Studies show that men who own a home are more marriage-ready. A man who is generally financially 10

ristinia DeBarge’s first single off her debut album is already looking like a smash at pop radio and can be be heard in Nivea’s latest TV campaign. It may be called “Goodbye” but she’s not going anywhere! At just 19-years-old, Kristinia’s emotions run deep. She’s learning and growing while she experiences life, love and relationships along with her young fans. Kristinia knows that she doesn’t have all the answers but on

her captivating first album, her fans will absolutely relate to her as they join her ride of self-discovery. Kristinia is no stranger to the music business. She’s the daughter of 80s pop star James DeBarge but her road to a record deal was not handed over to her without patience, perseverance and hard work. Kristinia knew she wanted to be a singer at the age of three but didn’t reveal this passion to her dad until she was twelve. “He wanted me to be a doctor or lawyer. I tried to be open to other careers because I didn’t want to disappoint him but my heart was set on 20

singing,” Kristinia remembers. The same day that Kristinia told him she wanted to sing, they recorded a duet together called “How I Feel Inside.” “Our studio session ended at 4 am and my dad asked me after all those hours and after all that work if I still wanted to do this,” she recalls. “When I answered yes, that’s how he knew I was serious about being a singer.” Less than a year later, Kristinia appeared on American Juniors – a younger version

of the wildly successful American Idol. Kristinia made it all the way to the Top 20 and suddenly her phone was ringing off the hook with producers and managers who wanted to make her a star. Kristinia also went out on the road with her dad soon after her TV debut. He brought her up on stage to sing with him each night. It didn’t take long for people to start asking Kristinia for her autograph after each performance. Her biggest break, however, came when she was 14-years-old and she started working with legendary producer Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds. He knew that she had what it would take to make it and worked with her CONTINUED ON PG. 56

2009 was a great year for concerts and 2010 looks to be no different. From AC/DC to U2, from Brooks & Dunn to Taylor Swift, one big act after another is either touring the World, North America, or both.

While most of the tours on our list have already been booked, a few are currently in the rumor stage. However, if the rumors turn out to be true, and they probably will, then 2010 will be a banner year for rock fans of the 1960’s & 70’s. AC/DC - The rockers from down under continue their Black Ice World Tour which seems like it started during the Carter Administration. The tour’s fifth North America leg starts April 8. Alicia Keys - She’s the best thing to hit R&B since the ampersand. Alicia Keys starts The Freedom Tour Feb 28. Rascal Flatts - Their Unstoppable Tour visits 20-cities in the U.S. and Canada. Opening for Rascal Flatts is former Hootie and Blowfish front man Darius Rucker. Bon Jovi - The Circle World Tour starts February 11 in Hawaii. After several dates in North America, Bon Jovi hits the road in Europe. Creed - Creed started touring in 2009 and will continue performing into 2010. Scorpions - The Scorps! Get Your Sting and Blackout World Tour kicks off in Europe this March. The world tour is expected to end in 2012. Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers - The band will be running down a dream in 2010 with their Superhighway Tour. Dave Matthews Band - It may come as a shock to everyone but Dave Matthews Band is on the road again in 2010. Eric Clapton and Eric Clapton & Jeff Beck - Slowhand performs a handful of dates starting Feb. 15 in Pittsburgh. Clapton and Beck team for 3 shows in midFebruary. If you like blues-rock this is the show for you. Taylor Swift - In 2010, fans can still catch Taylor Swift out on her Fearless Tour. Her trek runs from February through June. Guns and Roses - Welcome to the Jungle or in this case the Chinese Democracy Tour Series. It visits Canada and South America in 2010. KISS - The Sonic Boom Over Europe Tour is set to rock and roll all night starting May 1 in Sheffield, England. More KISS dates outside of Europe are said to be on their way.

Lady Gaga - After Lady Gaga and her Monster Ball Tour finish in North American, she ventures to Europe and Australia for a string of dates.

Jay-Z - After canceling some dates in 2009, Jay-Z continues his Blueprint 3 tour in 2010. First show is in Sunrise, Florida on Feb. 20. Metallica - In 2010, the band continues its World Magnetic Tour that started way back in 2008. This year Metallica is scheduled to visit Latin American and Europe. Jimmy Buffett - Margaritaville hits the road in 2010 with the Summerzcool Tour. Watch out for the pop-tops. Michael Buble - His Crazy Love Tour kicks off March 10 in Orlando and continues through the beginning of April. In May and June, Michael Buble hops the pond to play some dates in Europe. Muse - Resistance maybe futile but Muse’s Resistance Tour is not. Currently underway in the South Pacific, the Resistance Tour’s second North American leg is scheduled to start February 27 in Atlanta. Nickelback - You can catch Nickelback in 2010 on their Dark Horse Tour. It gallops across North American from early April to June. Mariah Carey - Her Angels Advocate Tour runs through the end of February. The tour is supporting Mariah Carey’s latest album Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel. Ringo Star and His All-Star Band - Ringo and his friends have a handful of dates scheduled for this summer. Get ready for some serious nostalgia. Green Day - Teenage angst is coming to a venue near you. Green Day’s 21st Century Breakdown World Tour continues in 2010. Riverdance - It’s the final Riverdance Tour of all-time or so they say. You can catch the organized Irish stompers in North America and Europe throughout 2010. Bryan Adams - In February and March of 2010, Canadians’ own Bryan Adams performs a handful of concerts in North America. U2 - You can still experience U2’s 360 Degrees tour in 2010. Bono and the boys will be back in the U.S. this summer. Wilco - Will you catch Wilco in 2010? I know I will. The Chicago-based band led by Jeff Tweedy tours North America and Europe this year. Black Eyed Peas - The B.E.P’s E.N.D. Tour started in 2009. It gets back underway Feb. 4, 2010 in the A-T-L. Tim McGraw - Joined by Lady Antebellum, Tim McGraw’s Southern Voice Tour gets underway Feb. 11 in Omaha, Nebraska. Celtic Woman - Remember it’s “woman” not “women” and their North American tour begins February of 2010 in Roanoke, Virginia and last through the spring. There are also rumors of tours from artists like Leona Lewis, Paul McCartney, Pearl Jam, Rihanna, Shakira, Van Halen, Whitney Houston, and The Who. 36

Jim Duffy of All Shades of Beauty contact Yi Liu after seeing her photos on Myspace, and asked her if she was interested in modeling. She always wanted to model when she was a kid, but thought her 4’ 9” petite frame would be an obstacle. Boy was she wrong! Soon after Yi’s first photo shoot, the offers started pouring in. Being a college student has not slowed Yi down. She is managing her modeling career all the while working on a degree in Physical Therapy. Already possessing a Bachelor Degree in Natural Science, this model is not only beauty, but brains as well. This self-proclaimed geek is into computer engineering, sports, exercising, traveling, cooking, and eating healthy. Yi Liu, now 22 years old, tells us she is also into dancing. TM: When did you first become interested in modeling? YI: Wow, how do I say this, a long time ago, I couldn’t even remember, maybe since I was a kid and always loved seeing those beautiful ladies in flawless photos. TM: What was your parents reaction? Born in Wisconsin and raised in Roscoe, Illinois, Danica began racing go-karts at 10. She won several go-kart national championships before moving to England at 16 to advance her racing career (and de-advance her taste buds). Across the pond, Danica placed second in the ultra-competitive Formula Ford Festival—the highest finish ever by either a woman or an American (though, weirdly, the second-highest finish for an American woman…don’t ask). In 2002, a 20-year-old Patrick signed with Rahal-Letterman Racing (that’s right, as in the guy with the Top 10 lists), and after a few productive years in the minors, she entered the majors: the IRL IndyCar Series. At the 2005 Indianapolis 500, Danica led for 19 laps—the first woman ever to be out in front—and ended up finishing fourth. While that’s third loser to some, it was the highest finish ever by a woman at Indy, and it helped her earn IRL Rookie of the Year honors. (The next two years at Indy weren’t quite as hot: She finished eighth twice.) Even before Danica won a race in the IRL, that hasn’t stopped her from fielding more media requests than anyone else on the circuit, and regularly being voted the league’s most popular driver. (We think it has something to do with her mustache-lessness.) The 5’2” beauty—who, unfortunately, is married to her former (and maybe current?) physical therapist—has even received offers to switch to NASCAR. We think she should do whatever blows her hair back. 40

Danica Patrick was always sure a woman could win a race. And now the questions about her will surely stop. Patrick made it to the place she wanted to be for so long—Victory Lane. She became the first female winner in IndyCar history Sunday, capturing the Indy Japan 300 in her 50th career start. “I’m glad it finally happened,” the 26-year-old driver said. “But I would be lying if I told you I didn’t think it would be me.” Her owner was ecstatic, insisting more victories await. Her family could not congratulate her enough. All of which made Patrick a bit teary. “When it actually happened, maybe it was a little anticlimactic,” she said. “Then the emotions came out and that was a little girly of me.” Win No. 1 was a long time coming. Patrick finished a career-best seventh in the standings last year when her best finish was second in the race at Detroit’s Belle Isle. Her first IndyCar race was in 2005 at Homestead-Miami. “I’ve been asked so many times when and if I can win my first race,” she said. “And, finally, no more of those questions.” Patrick was welcomed by her family near the podium. “There was a lot of “I love you,’ and ‘congratulations,’ Patrick said. “My dad said it was the best day of his life.” Michael Andretti, co-owner of Andretti

Green Racing, called his driver a “fantastic person.” “I’m thrilled for her that the monkey is finally off of her back,” said Andretti, co-owner of Andretti Green Racing. “We have all believed in her and she proved today that she is a winner. Frankly, I think this is the first of many.” At the 2005 Indy 500, Patrick nearly won the pole and became the first female driver to lead the race. She wound up fourth, the best finish by a woman at Indy and a result that helped her claim rookie of the year honors. Sunday’s race, which was delayed a day because of a wet track, was won by a combination of cool composure and shrewd strategy. Patrick took the lead from pole-sitter Helio Castroneves on the 198th lap in the 200-lap race. “When I had to talk into my radio after the race, all I could say was ‘Thank you,”’ said Patrick, who finished 5.8594 seconds ahead of Castroneves on the 1.5-mile Twin Ring Motegi oval. “It was a fuel-strategy race, but my team called it perfectly for me,” Patrick said. “I knew I was on the same strategy as Helio and when I passed him for the lead, I couldn’t believe it. This is fabulous.” Patrick started from the third row and made her final pit stop under caution on the 148th lap, along with Castroneves and Ed Carpenter. All the leaders were taking it easy, saving fuel after the ensuing restart and Patrick stayed within sight, realizing she would have a chance when the top contenders headed to CONTINUED ON PG. 69

Dreaming of a modeling career but not tall enough? Don’t get discouraged, the industry is open for anyone. There are modeling agencies that accept models that are only five tall. All you have to do is find as much information of various modeling agencies as possible and be very patient and determined to get in the industry. Petite models are usually working more as a “close up” photo models than those in a high fashion industry. Petite models are used to takeing pictures of body parts instead of the body as a whole, therefore your body imperfections, such as height is not that important as your facial features. So to get in the industry you must have a cute face, nice skin, a good bone structure and good teeth. Don’t consider yourself as just cute. You’re not the one judging yourself. Go to some modeling agency and simply ask if you have the facial features that would be acceptable in modeling. If they tell you no, don’t get disappointed. Modeling is an industry where requirements change extremely fast. Try to ask for a professional opinion a few months later. Maybe they themselves will offer you

work. Moreover, petite models surely look fit while tall models look elegant. That’s the main reason why fashion industry professional choose tall models for shows on the catwalk and petite models for prints and other media. While talking about television, only a few petite girls are working as models for it. The reason for this is that tall models look better in front of camera, because television actually shortens one’s appearance. Although it’s just an optical illusion it’s surely an important feature. Keep in mind that most clients and photographers would rather work with a vibrant and “easy” person than a beautiful headache, that doesn’t take instructions well or SUMMER 2010 n TRUFLAVA

acts as a snob. You have to be lively, full of energy and work hard to get successful in the petite modeling industry. The Body requirements for petite models are not as high as for tall ones, so your character features definitely are very important if you want to become a famous model. If you are wanting to get in the industry you must do what every model does. Register with an agency; get a portfolio and work hard to achieve your goal. Isobella Jade is an successful petite model. stable, and has his ducks in a row, feels marriage is a practical next step for him. 3. He pursues you The guy who is commitment-ready is going to initiate doing things with you. If you’re emailing him and he takes days to email you back, if you have to text him to find out where he is, if you are always calling him, you’re chasing a man who’s probably not marriage-material. 4. He’s willing to wait Yes, research is telling us what we already know: If a guy gets to know you before getting intimate, he is more likely to commit.

to get to know him! He’ll want to see if you fit in with his family and friends. A guy who keeps you separate from the important people in his life is just playing around. 7. He says, “we” instead of “me” When he switches from “me” to “we”, that’s a sign he’s committing to you at a deeper level. If your guy is all, “I”, “me”, and “my” instead of “we” and “us” in conversations after you’ve been dating a while, his mindset is still in single guy mode.

5. He watches DVDs with you when you’re sick Taking care of you when you’re sick shows that this guy isn’t just in it for the fun and sex. If he wants to be with you in bad times, it’s a sign he’s in it for the long haul. 6. He gets to know your friends and family A guy who is thinking long-term wants to truly get to know you. Seeing you interact with your family and friends helps him learn where you come from and more about who you are. The flip side of it is that he will also want you

8. He’s not afraid of compromise A commitment-ready guy is going to ask your opinion, consult you about decisions he needs to make, and has the ability to meet you halfway. A bull-headed guy who needs everything his way or it’s the highway, isn’t ready for the compromise. CONTINUED ON PG. 57

TM: How do you describe your look and style? YI: I’d say I do mostly glamour photos, but I hardly stay up with current fashion. Occassially I’ll dress causal, and sometimes I’ll dress like a bum, and then there’s times I’ll dress sexy. It depends on each events.

TM: Do you have anything special coming up? YI: Sure, I have lots of projects I’m working on. Like a swimsuit catalog, more zivity shoots, my own modeling website:

TM: What do you like more, runway or print? YI: I love runways, but I have to stay with print due to my height!! TM: Have you experienced any of the scams that plague the industry? YI: Yes and No! People have send me emails offering me jobs, but unlike some amateurs I was smart. I’d ask my friends, photographers, and other models about them, then I’d research on them before I would even consider working with them. If they are a scam, I would report them to that site. I did reply to a few of them, but if they came back with paying them a high fee, I’d usually file them as scams. I did pay on this one site, but luckily I was smart enough to only try it out for a month. I only lost a few bucks. 54

He doesn’t need excuses Commitment-phobic guys always have an excuse about why they can’t be with you on Saturday night, why they didn’t call, and why they aren’t ready for a relationship right now. A commitment-ready guy doesn’t need excuses, he just needs you. 10. He likes being in a long-term relationship Some men like being in a monogamous relationship and some don’t. The sooner you realize and accept this the better. If he complains all the time about needing space, treats you like a giant burden instead of a gift, and keeps talking about taking things slow, he’s telling you he’s not ready for a commitment. On the other hand, if he’s done with the party scene, enjoys your “couple time” together, and has a strong sense of family, you’ve found a commitment-ready guy. i

While many male modern R&B vocal-

ists are moving to a more mature vibe, Trey Songz keeps the horndog-with-aheart tradition alive with his third album, “Ready.’’ Of course, the 25-year-old is still young, so it’s fitting that he would cut a track like “I Invented Sex,’’ which shows more braggadocio than Ali in his prime. Sometimes, this can get unintentionally humorous as on “Neighbors Know My Name,’’ where he claims he makes his girlfriend scream so loudly his neighbors know his name. (Maybe they looked at the mailbox.) Songz has really developed as a vocalist since his debut, and he’s more elastic and uses his falsetto judiciously. He’s clearly got a sentimental streak, though, as heard on the winsome “I Need a Girl’’ and “Jupiter Love,’’ which will either send women into delight or a sugar coma. The disc seems built around two popping tracks, “Say Aah’’ (yes, as in “open up and’’) and “LOL :-),’’ with Gucci Mane and Soulja Boy Tell ’Em. Songz has made strides with each album; it’s too bad there aren’t more songs like “Be Where You Are,’’ a near-perfect slice of pop, or the beautifully sung “Love Lost.’’ Tracks like that show that he is indeed ready for the next step.

the pits late in the race. Patrick was as low as eighth place on the 189th lap, but Carpenter pitted with about 10 laps to go and she went from fourth to second after Dan Wheldon and Tony Kanaan pitted on the 196th. After flying for about 12 hours to attend the finish of the last race in the Champ Car World Series Sunday in Long Beach, Calif., Patrick, appearing refreshed and relaxed, gave a lot of the credit for her win to team engineer Kyle Moyer.

“I knew that the last stint was going to be important, that was a good call from the pits from Kyle Moyer, who calls my races, to pit on the end of the yellow flag.” she said. “It was going to be close on fuel, but we were in the process of giving ourselves the best opportunity possible. “As soon as we went green after that yellow flag, it was all about saving fuel.” Patrick said she began to look for Castroneves with about 10 laps to go. “I knew I was P2 (position two) by then. Five laps later, I see he’s backing up, saving fuel,” she said. “I was like, `Hey, kick it up a notch and get by.’ If this is what it comes down to, you better not think to yourself I wish I had tried a little bit harder. “It probably would have happened whether I would have pushed or not because it seemed like he was running out of fuel quite a bit at the end. But it was really very nice to drive by him at that point.” Even then she said she wasn’t sure she was going to win until Moyer came on the radio and told her, “You can use as much fuel as you want. Bring it around, the checkered flag is yours.” Patrick said, “That was a big relief. A long time I’ve waited for this. happened the way it was supposed to happen and I believe everything happens for a reason.” Scott Dixon finished third, 10.0559 seconds behind Patrick. Wheldon was fourth and Kanaan fifth.

The following weekend in Milwaukee Patrick raced to 5th port. position at the flag. On June 6, she finished the Bombardier Learjet 550 in 6th place, dropping her to fifth place in the IndyCar Series point standings.

In Japan, Castroneves, awarded the pole position after qualifying was rained out Friday, said Patrick ran a great race.

Patrick began the season with the Motorola sponsorship from her previous two seasons with AGR, however her car was re-branded for Boost Mobile following the Kansas race. The changes were made public with a drive down the tarmac at the Indianapolis International AirIn what was a difficult Honda Indy

“With five laps to go, I was saving fuel,” Castroneves said. “When Danica passed me, I realized she was the leader. She did a great job, passed me fair and square and that shows you how competitive our series is.” On May 24, 2009 Patrick raced at the Indy 500. She finished third behind winner Helio Castroneves and second-place Dan Wheldon.
