ZONA U R B A N A Applications Now Open for Austin Parks Foundation’s ACL Greening Program For the past 14 years, Austin Parks Foundation has been the primary beneficiary of ACL Fest, putting $35 million back into Austin’s parks. On its third year managing the festival’s signature greening programs, APF needs volunteers to help in these efforts. The Rock & Recycle Program encourages festival attendees to pick up a bag of recyclables from the grounds in exchange for a specially designed ACL Fest line-up tee. The Divert It! program encourages and educates attendees to sort and divert waste from the festival toward composting efforts on site. Plus, all volunteers get a t-shirt and a one-day pass wristband allowing them to enjoy the festival before or after their shift. Applications are now open and APF encourages everyone to apply quickly as spots are limited. More at austinparks.org. Apply now for the 2020 People’s Gallery Exhibition The City of Austin’s Cultural Arts Division of the Economic Development Department invites Austin-area artists, galleries, museums, and arts organizations to apply for The People’s Gallery 2020 exhibition. Eligibility extends to artists 18 years or older, who reside or work in Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Hays, Travis or Williamson. This year there’s an additional call, titled “Install The Wall,” seeking artists to propose site-specific installations for display in the Mayor’s second floor stairwell at Austin City Hall. The budget is $3,000, and will go towards insurance, materials, installation, and deinstallation of the work. Each applicant may submit up to five artworks, for free, for consideration. All applications must be submitted online. Both calls for artworks may be accessed at cityofaustin.submittable.com. Applicants are welcome to apply for either or both calls. A selection panel of local arts professionals will review the submissions and recommend artworks for the 2020 exhibition, which will be on display at City Hall from February 28, 2020 through January 1, 2021. This year’s selection panelists are exhibiting artists Meena Matocha, Dave McClinton, and Kemi Yemi-Ese. Music & Entertainment Division Updates The City of Austin’s Music & Entertainment Division has several initiatives underway regarding amplified sound violations. The Outdoor Amplified Sound Enforcement Standard Operating Procedure is developing a new interdepartmental procedure for staff to issue citations through an affidavit process with Austin Municipal Court as an alternative to relying on Austin Police officers as the only authorized officials to issue outdoor citations. The division is also hiring a full-time employee to facilitate this initiative. Additionally, the division is working with Austin 3-1-1 to consider improvements to the current process for reporting amplified sound violations to better address citizen concerns and improve outcomes. EQ Austin Journal is an online monthly for “ALL of Austin” that highlights the local music and creative industry, mirroring our community’s demographic profile. Since its establishment in 2008 as TODO Austin, the publication highlights our multicultural heritage and stories covering every ethnic community.

“We set an ambitious goal this year and continue to increase our fundraising efforts because we want to expand our services and be able to proactively reach out to musicians around Austin who we know could benefit from HAAM,” HAAM Executive Director Reenie Collins said. “Since 2015, HAAM membership has increased by 40 percent, and we are working hard to keep our funding in line with that growth. The continued support of the community is imperative to the success of HAAM.” Throughout the day, Central Texans will be able to choose from more than 200 musical performances by Austin’s talented artists.
