No sooner are the children back at school, then Halloween in upon us and the countdown to Christmas begins! If you are planning to be organised for Christmas and not have that last-minute rush then you might want to start looking through these pages and getting things booked in. Everyone gets increasingly busy as the festive season gets nearer – some are already taking bookings for 2019! Over recent years, the traditional summer slowdown hasn’t materialised, with both buyers and sellers seeming to keep their property plans at a full pace throughout the holiday season. However, 2018 has proved to be different, with levels of new instructions, and subsequently DJUHHG VDOHV VORZLQJ GRZQ TXLWH VLJQLƓ FDQWO\ Historically big sporting events have always created a distraction, and this year the World Cup, and England’s relative success, along with a welcome heatwave (for most), probably combined to put a dent in sales activity.

Due to the ever-present issue of limited supply, prices are holding up well, and many properties are receiving multiple bids. Contrary to belief, people will continue to offer on properties right up until the Christmas break, although any properties where sales are agreed past midOctober are unlikely to complete in 2018. If you are hoping to sell this year, it’s best to list your home by the end of October; this will give your property good exposure to the market, and make sure the maximum price is gained, whilst demand remains high. Hi Everyone, Autumn is definitely with us bringing cooler weather and better temperatures for our 4-legged friends. The summer months have been fantastic however it has been a struggle trying to keep all of our dogs cool. We are full to overflowing with some beautiful dogs and cats in our Sanctuary that all need to find their fur ever homes. Pedigrees, cross breeds, large and small. One such dog is a 9-month-old Golden Beagle cross (Golden Retriever x Beagle) she is a little too large to be a handbag dog but she is the prettiest, funniest, loving puppy. However, she does not have many manners, so time would have to be spent on her training, but she is very biddable and she does listen. She originally came from Cyprus and has been re homed but unfortunately being a young puppy, her new owners found her a little too much. She is a smallish Retriever size and will probably fill out a little but don’t think she will get a great deal larger. As a Sanctuary we see some awful sights, but we never do get used to them. Two weeks ago, a Greyhound was dumped on the lane between the vets and our Sanctuary, he was a very sick boy and very emaciated it was touch and go in the first week whether he was going to survive. A week later he was released from the vets hospital, he is a very lucky boy and now the long process begins to rehabilitate him. He was chipped but we were unable to contact his previous owners. Having your animal chipped it so important, however when moving house you need to make sure you change your address with the I D company you have used. The only good thing I am able to say about this is that he was at least left next to the vets and our Sanctuary where he could be found, I hate to think what could have happened if he had been left in a field or in the middle of a wood, let’s not dwell on that! We are desperately in need of funds and with this in mind have arranged a Ladies evening event on the 12th October at 7 pm in the Parish Room, Tickhill. This will be a fun evening with stalls selling Jewellery, candles, handbags, knitwear/tops, scarves, pamper your pooch stall and some surprises. If you are looking to start your Christmas shopping or just want to spoil yourself do come and have a relaxing browse. Join us and enjoy delicious homemade cake and fresh coffee, also sample our Mayflower “ Cocktail “ all included in an admission fee of £5. Please help us raise money for this fantastic Charity and the work it does. Our fundraising is so important and without the generosity of our supporters we would not be in a position to help animals like the abandoned Greyhound. Mayflower Sanctuary are here to re-home abandoned, abused and unwanted cats and dogs, we will never euthanize a healthy animal, and will keep all our long-term animals until their forever homes are found. Cats and dogs come to us for many reasons, marriage breakup, people fall on hard times and life in general alters for many people. Mary came into care with her two kittens after their owner decided that she couldn’t look after them anymore. Mary was a housecat who escaped from an open window and returned later that day. Unfortunately she was ‘in season’ and was now pregnant !! Even housecats should be spayed as they are terrific escape-artists when in-season. Her kittens are now grown up and ready to find new homes of their own. Time for Mary to do the same. As a previous housecat she would be happy to remain so. She has been spayed so no longer does her Houdini act! Despite being with her kittens, Mary is unwilling to share with another cat so would be better as an only pet. That way she gets all the fusses.

Fluffy Female 2 Years July 2018 No Some Yes

Fluffy was found wandering on an industrial site hungry, matted and generally uncared for. The workers there knew the regular cats on the site but had never seen this little lady before. Whether she was a stray looking to join the feral colony there or she had been abandoned, we will never know. To add to her troubles, Fluffy was being bullied by the resident cats. One of the staff felt sorry for her and took her home but unfortunately she didn’t get along with her dog. So here she is looking for a new home to call her own. After a few good meals and the matts brushed out, she has been transformed to her former glory. Fluffy would probably be happy as a housecat but, more than likely, she would like a secure garden to explore. Her past is uncertain but hopefully her future is bright.

ROSE FIRTH – GREAT BASSETLAW FLOWER SHOW Who are and what do The Friends of Doncaster Museum do? Their lectures are listed on this page and I know some of you are curious. They meet monthly to enjoy a talk on the arts or heritage, but their main purpose is to support the Museum and Art Gallery and each year, the Friends identify a way to support the development of the Museum through fundraising activities. The 2019 target is to fund a mobile planetarium at the museum which will be there for at least two events, to encourage families to experience the inspiration of space whilst celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing; these events will be free. Also, The Friends will fund the membership of The Contemporary Arts Society, an organisation which has been in operation for almost a hundred years and during that time has bought and gifted many valuable works of art to galleries across the country. Doncaster, during a previous period of membership was allocated seventy works of art, including some of the most valuable in the collection. By raising the funds to pay for a renewal of membership, Doncaster Museum will continue to develop its art collection into the future. Doncaster Civic Trust has donated £2000 towards the new membership, and a very successful fundraising event with Gervase Phinn boosted funds further. We’re not really designed to ride bikes though‌which can lead to some issues‌ Amongst other things, neck pain can be a problem. Cycling involves getting into an unnatural spinal position leaning forwards LQWR Čľ H[LRQ ΖI ZH DOORZ RXU QHFN WR IROORZ this spinal shape we end up looking at WKH Čľ RRU 7R FRXQWHU WKLV ZH Čľ LS RXU KHDG DQG QHFN EDFN LQWR H[WHQVLRQ If there are some joints in the neck that are VWLÎ? Tickhill Estfeld School Horticultural Show Success Well done to all of our pupils who entered the 31st Tickhill Horticultural Show in September. Our school garden this year did not produce the bumper crop that it has in previous years; a victim of the long hot Summer despite our best efforts to water during the holidays – thank you Mrs Radford. But we’re not complaining as we all enjoyed the sunshine even if it’s not the best for growing courgettes! Even so our pupils did still have some great produce to enter at the

Our pupils really enjoy their gardening activities; they learn a lot about how to tend and care for plants, but they also learn from each other and work together as a good team to produce excellent results, which look and taste good too! Our pupils entered many categories in the Children’s Section and can be seen here proudly displaying some of their handiwork and rosettes at our Monday morning assembly.

The 31st Annual Show on Saturday September 8th was opened by Mr. Tony Seaman and his wife Louise who provide such a good service at Castlegate DIY. Louise and Tony enjoyed the high quality of the needlework exhibits which filled the Chapel and all the exhibits from fruit, vegetables and flowers to baking and preserves plus photography, art and children’s work on show in the schoolroom. They congratulated all the prize winners when presenting the trophies at 4.00pm.

While we were constantly facing showers and heavier periods of rain the marquee, kindly provided by Thorne Valley, enabled visitors to sit outside listening to the Bramley Brass and Jazz Band and watching the Pet Show where Hayley Shackleton judged the three classes, ‘The Most Loveable’, ‘The Happiest’ and ‘The Scruffiest’ pets. There was a wide range of extremely friendly dogs and very little barking! Due to the rain the Tombola stall moved inside and Karen and Dawn had a very good afternoon. Thank you ladies for the welcome contribution you made. As the Committee get older we realise more and more how we rely on the young people of the Phoenix Explorer Scouts for their fitness and willingness to help setting up the show on Friday evening, assisting through the afternoon collecting the gate money and then helping to prepare the Chapel and Schoolroom for the Harvest Festival Service and celebration lunch the following day. Many thanks to you and your leader. As usual we had a range of top quality judges for the various sections, all very experienced and all very complimentary of the overall standard of entries. Various trophies and other awards were supported by cash and voucher prizes and we are indebted to our many sponsors for their continued kindness. Thank you also to all the people who kindly provided cakes of all kinds and to the ladies in the kitchen who worked hard providing refreshments both to visitors and “staff”. Our next meeting will be on Thursday 25th October in the Methodist Schoolroom at 7.15pm when Don Whitton, who looks after the National Euphorbia collection on his allotment in Harthill - Sheffield, will talk about “ A Hardy Planter’s Winter Survival Kit”. The Audit for the Council’s Finances is now complete and 2017/18 has been finalised. As a legal requirement the Council must advertise the Notice of Conclusion of Audit and the External Auditor certificate and report for 2017/18: both have been displayed on the Tickhill Town Council Notice board and on the Website, alongside the financial statement from 8th August 2018 A copy of the accounts is issued alongside this magazine article for your perusal. Each month the accounts for payments are prepared and distributed to all Councillors and an up to date statement of receipts and payments for the financial year to date are also submitted. Payments due that month are provided and set out against budget. The finances are monitored both monthly and quarterly. At year end the Internal Auditor scrutinises all transactions and bank information and is then sent to Government Approved External Auditors. The certificate given was as follows: “On the basis of our review of the annual return, in our opinion the information in the annual return is in accordance with proper practices and no other matters have come to our attention giving cause for concern that relevant legislative and regulatory requirements have not been met” Planning Tickhill Town Council asks that all residents who send objections to/comments on 70 TICKHILL TODAY

planning applications to D.M.B.C. copy them to the Tickhill Town Council, where they can be considered as part of their response. Tickhill Town Council has two meetings per month when residents can attend to make their objections/support on ANY issues and all are warmly welcomed. Meetings take place at the Pavilion Tithes Lane Tickhill DN11 9QN on the second Tuesday of each month at 10.30am and the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7.00pm. 23 scouts and their leaders left Tickhill at the beginning of August to embark on an expedition to Croatia. It was the first time some had ever flown on a plane and it was certainly the first time that the Scout group had travelled abroad by air. Fortunately, nothing unexpected happened other than an hour’s delay on take-off due to bad weather in Europe and they all arrived tired but safe. The youngsters spent a week in Pula living in a youth hostel. They visited Vienna, explored a Roman amphitheatre, went dolphin watching and spent an adrenalin filled day in a high rope park amongst other challenging activities. The most important part of the trip though was learning to live with each other in close proximity as well as inter-acting with the local population in Pula. It was an experience never to be repeated and will provide lasting memories for them all.

At this event we will also be presenting a series of awards to a number of our youngsters who have achieved much in the past year. This award, the Jinks Award, was inaugurated by the family of a previous Group Scout Leader – Eric Jinks. Eric always believed that the quality of a Scout as a person was far more important than an arm full of badges. This is the criterion used by the leaders when choosing the recipients of the award. Unfortunately, the cost of Scouting does not get any less and we must make a start on our usual fundraising activities. On October 13th we will be holding our Autumn Jumble Sale. This will be held in the Scout & Guide HQ in St Mary’s Road from 12:00. The building will be open from 10:00 for the receipt of any goods that you may have to offer for us to sell. Collection can be arranged if required by contacting me on 01302 743430.

The leaders have now recharged their batteries in time to start the new year. We will be welcoming new recruits in all our sections and have vacancies throughout. We are always happy to accept offers of extra help and it is not always from a leader point of view. There are several ancillary roles to be filled ranging from providing a particular skill in building maintenance – electrical, gas, decorating – to equipment maintenance. If you can help then please contact me. Every year we have to hold an AGM to re-appoint the management committee for the Scout group. This year, we are holding our AGM at Squirrel Wood – Doncaster Scouting’s own camp site and activity centre later in September.
