We have recently helped support the fundraising of a Bawtry family to purchase an adapted bicycle so a young boy with quadriplegic cerebral palsy can enjoy bike rides with his family. The show is made up of birds, flowers, fish, reptiles that have gone or are on the critical list. Everything in the exhibition is made from throw away materials, to promote creative recycling and raise awareness of why species are disappearing at such an alarming rate. Jill Ray uses both traditional and digital methods to produce her landscapes. She works with oil on canvas and creates digital prints using a computer. The opposing processes offer Jill different ways of working; slow vs fast, direct vs indirect markmaking, subtle textures vs perfected geometry. They really have been marvelous and during the long interregnum of two years and four months have supported RXU FKXUFK WDNLQJ 6XQGD\ and Thursday Communion VHUYLFHV 7KH\ KDYH RÉ? Harworth Colliery Football Club AUGUST Update!

players from Juniors into Youth then hopefully into senior football, trials have taken place and the 20 lads selected so all the very best to you all. Hello and welcome to what will be our first season in the Northern Counties Division One for 32 whole years. We hope you have all enjoyed the World Cup and the baking hot sunshine this summer more than our pitches have, lets hope by the beginning of the season that some normality has returned and we get them nice and lush. The fixtures are out for the 1st team and are as follows, August 4th at home v Worsbrough Bridge 3 ko, 8TH Nostell Miners Welfare away, 11th Ollerton Town Away, 14th Rossington Town Home, 18th Parkgate Away, 22nd Grimsby Borough away. It’s a huge season for us and with going up a step the management have worked hard to get in new players, we know how much of a challenge this is going to be and we need all your support so please come and get behind the lads as we need you more than ever. When we’ve called upon the community like the Retford game at the end of last season you were there in numbers, let’s make that happen again. Pre season is always a busy time at the club whether that be getting new players, new sponsors, keeping current ones and general ground maintenance, but with the new season just around the corner all of it will be worthwhile. We have as well as keeping our current reserves, Under 21’s and Ladies teams added an Under 18’s, this has been an area of huge concern for us as we have continued to lose players at that age. Hi Everyone, Well what a fantastic summer we are having at the moment, coupled with football fever it couldn’t be better. Unfortunately, there is always a down side to the hot weather for all the animals in our care, it is a struggle to keep everyone cool. For the dogs that love water we have paddling pools in their runs it is really wonderful to watch them play in the water keeping cool. However, we have been struggling to get our hand on more hard paddling pools, (this hot weather has been a bit of a surprise) we are 3 short for the dogs that love water and have had to keep swopping them around. If anyone out there has one they are not using or can get their hand on one and donate it to us that would be amazing (The hard ones, not blow up). For the dogs that are not keen on water we hose the runs to keep area’s cool, which seems to work. We have had 3 lovely dogs come to our Sanctuary recently with huge medical issues, we have managed to save their lives but at a huge cost. They all had major leg issues and one had to have an amputation, but hopefully they are now on the road to recovery and will be ready to go to their forever homes. These operations have left our funds in desperate need. If anyone would either like to donate to help cover this cost or just complete a direct debit even if it’s just £2 per month as every little helps and the Sanctuary desperately needs to cover this cost. Thank you to everyone that attended the annual dog show in Tickhill. Unfortunately, we felt the heat was too oppressive for the dogs, so be on the safe side we had to close the event early. We still raised in the region of £1500-£2000 pounds so it was still very much worthwhile. There is much planning and

preparation required for an event like this, so everyone helping on the day a big thank you. We hope everyone remembered our Summer Fare that will have now have taken place it was the 29th July and was advertised in the last issue. A big thank you to people (or fairies!) that keep leaving towels etc in my garage they are a great help to us. We have some beautiful dogs and cats here at the moment so if you are looking for that special pet to make your life complete please, please come and visit us. We also have a great shop with everything you could want for your pet. Please be double aware in these rising temperatures not to leave animals in hot cars even if the sun isn’t out a car can still become a terribly hot place. Also make sure there is plenty of shade and drinking water for all of your pets, including horses. The Sanctuary have a Job Vacancy for an experienced Kennel Carer. This is a full-time position working 8 hours a day 5 day per week including weekends on a rota basis. Experience of working with dogs and cats is essential. Sami was rehomed from Mayflower as a youngster but he has had to come back into our care due to circumstances beyond his control. He used to be very happy in his home and enjoyed life to the full snuggling up with his Mum in the evenings and exploring his garden during the day. This all changed when a huge tom-cat moved into the area! This tom terrorised the neighbourhood and picked on all the cats in the area – particularly Sami. Sami’s mum started to keep him in as a housecat and this was working well until one night when the Tom broke through the locked catflap and attacked Sami in the kitchen. This resulted in Sami being rushed to the emergency Vets and he still bears the scars to his left eye. Unfortunately when Sami returned home, he was terrified of everything in his home even though the bully had gone. Even though his owner loved him very much she realised that a fresh start was what he needed. Sami is a wonderfully affectionate chap but needs to be an only pet who is now kept safely inside as a housecat. Have you got what Sami needs.??

Harworth & Bircotes Town Council - AUGUST 2018 A CIVIC SQUARE FOR HARWORTH AND BIRCOTES When the Town Council consulted with local residents about the Neighbourhood Plan, a number of themes emerged. One was a desire for a central space where people could sit, relax and chat; the obvious choice was the vacant land next to the police station with the large mound of earth on it; unfortunately, the Town Council didn’t own this land. Our Challenges: 7KH ȴUVW challenge was persuading the Trust that owned the land to transfer it to the Town Council free of charge and yes, it took ages, but we eventually did it! Then came consultation with local people on the design, followed by work on the plans. The next challenge was funding: Bassetlaw District Council had available to us some existing Community Infrastructure Levy funds and Public Realm grant money; a successful bid to W.R.E.N. plus some match funding set aside by Council meant the project could start. The Town Council wanted an attractive feature for local people to appreciate and enjoy, it had to be robust, and it had to be high quality. Other challenges appeared when the work started, the winter snow and rain didn’t help, and then we unearthed - shock, horror, delay - a road, weighbridge and reinforced steel. Most of this had to be removed in order to reach the

right depth needed to install the required under-structure, aqua drains, electric cables and connections, and much more. But we dealt with that, too. What will it look like? Surfaced with thick granite blocks to support the weight of any vehicles e.g. during a community event, it will have matching tobermore (very heavy) bricks for the facings of the raised planted areas, lighting columns - yes, it will be lit at night - and VWUHHW IXUQLWXUH ΖW ZLOO EH ȴQLVKHG by the end of August/early September, when you can judge for yourselves. We asked for a quality asset, something I believe this community should have, and something I will continue to ȴJKW IRU LQ DOO RXU WRZQ FHQWUH developments. Why is this project important? For several reasons. It is a clear signal that we have listened to what you said was needed for our Town. It also demonstrates that the partnership between Bassetlaw District Council and this Town Council is producing results in developing the new

Town Centre; this couldn’t happen without the expertise of Bassetlaw Council, who take the lead on major projects. Why a Civic Square? Because this is the central space people asked for, somewhere to sit, meet and greet; importantly, the completed square will be used for community events, as promised. In future years, the growth of Simpson Park will trigger a new pedestrian route connecting to the square, providing access to local shops/ other facilities for residents living there. The development of the Colliery site will undoubtedly place even greater emphasis on the central position of the Civic 6TXDUH PDNLQJ LW D VLJQLČ´FDQW focal point in the Town. Having a Civic Square is just one piece of the bigger picture for the development of Harworth and Bircotes Town Centre. This project is much more than ‘a few VODEV DQG ČľRZHU EHGVC DQG Ζ make no apology for aiming high on behalf of local citizens. You deserve it.
