The summer holidays already! August can be a slow time for lots of local shops and small businesses, with so many of their customers away on holiday, or enjoying a different routine which takes them to different shopping venues. I am sure that there are some local to you who would appreciate your support during this period (and the rest of the time too). Whatever you are doing this summer I hope you get the opportunity to enjoy a little bit of relaxation time and make some memories with your loved ones. Hi Everyone, Well what a fantastic summer we are having at the moment, coupled with football fever it couldn’t be better. Unfortunately, there is always a down side to the hot weather for all the animals in our care, it is a struggle to keep everyone cool. For the dogs that love water we have paddling pools in their runs it is really wonderful to watch them play in the water keeping cool. However, we have been struggling to get our hand on more hard paddling pools, (this hot weather has been a bit of a surprise) we are 3 short for the dogs that love water and have had to keep swopping them around. If anyone out there has one they are not using or can get their hand on one and donate it to us that would be amazing (The hard ones, not blow up). For the dogs that are not keen on water we hose the runs to keep area’s cool, which seems to work. We have had 3 lovely dogs come to our Sanctuary recently with huge medical issues, we have managed to save their lives but at a huge cost. They all had major leg issues and one had to have an amputation, but hopefully they are now on the road to recovery and will be ready to go to their forever homes. These operations have left our funds in desperate need. If anyone would either like to donate to help cover this cost or just complete a direct debit even if it’s just £2 per month as every little helps and the Sanctuary desperately needs to cover this cost. Thank you to everyone that attended the annual dog show in Tickhill. Unfortunately, we felt the heat was too oppressive for the dogs, so be on the safe side we had to close the event early. We still raised in the region of £1500-£2000 pounds so it was still very much worthwhile. There is much planning and

preparation required for an event like this, so everyone helping on the day a big thank you. We hope everyone remembered our Summer Fare that will have now have taken place it was the 29th July and was advertised in the last issue. A big thank you to people (or fairies!) that keep leaving towels etc in my garage they are a great help to us. We have some beautiful dogs and cats here at the moment so if you are looking for that special pet to make your life complete please, please come and visit us. We also have a great shop with everything you could want for your pet. Please be double aware in these rising temperatures not to leave animals in hot cars even if the sun isn’t out a car can still become a terribly hot place. Also make sure there is plenty of shade and drinking water for all of your pets, including horses. The Sanctuary have a Job Vacancy for an experienced Kennel Carer. This is a full-time position working 8 hours a day 5 day per week including weekends on a rota basis. Experience of working with dogs and cats is essential. He loved them very much and tried his best to keep them but realised that his only choice was to rehome them and asked Mayflower for their help in finding a purrrfect home. Sami Male 7 Years May 2018 No No 10+

Sami was rehomed from Mayflower as a youngster but he has had to come back into our care due to circumstances beyond his control. He used to be very happy in his home and enjoyed life to the full snuggling up with his Mum in the evenings and exploring his garden during the day. This all changed when a huge tom-cat moved into the area! This tom terrorised the neighbourhood and picked on all the cats in the area – particularly Sami. Sami’s mum started to keep him in as a housecat and this was working well until one night when the Tom broke through the locked catflap and attacked Sami in the kitchen. This resulted in Sami being rushed to the emergency Vets and he still bears the scars to his left eye. Unfortunately when Sami returned home, he was terrified of everything in his home even though the bully had gone. Even though his owner loved him very much she realised that a fresh start was what he needed. Sami is a wonderfully affectionate chap but needs to be an only pet who is now kept safely inside as a housecat. Have you got what Sami needs.??

Bawtry September Show It’s time to show off your talents again! - at the Bawtry Show on 8th of September, organised by Bawtry Garden Club. There are lots of classes available to enter: Fruit and veg, flowers and plants, baking and preserves, needlework, art and photography. Plus, children’s classes (4 to 15 years), incl: growing a sunflower, miniature gardens, veggie art, baking, drawings and stone painting, photographs and computer design. So, look at your seeds and plants, recipes, designs and pictures and have a go even if you’ve never entered a show before, it’s fun! Just 50p per entry for adults, children’s free of charge. Entry forms available at Bawtry Community Library from the start of July. If you can’t manage to enter anything then just come along and see us, it’s free admission. You will see elsewhere in this magazine a notice DGYHUWLVLQJ WKH IDFW WKDW my church has had a few changes – we are now called Bawtry Community Church and we continue to meet for worship and Bible teaching DW WKH 1HZ +DOO EXW QRZ on a Sunday afternoon. For those not in the church these changes might VHHP WR EH SUHWW\ LQVLJQLČ´ FDQW WZHDNV EXW IRU those of us who call it our spiritual home, it has been quite hard to welcome them. For people IRU ZKRP WKHLU ZKROH OLYHV 6XQGD\ PRUQLQJ has meant getting breakfast and then out to church, now to get up and not go makes us feel uncomfortable. While the name of the church LVQȇW VR HQJUDYHG LQWR RXU '1$ ZH GR KROG DQ DÎ? HFWLRQ IRU EHLQJ NQRZQ DV ČŠWKH HYDQJHOLFDOVČ‹ ΖW DOPRVW VHHPV OLNH D EHWUD\DO WR GURS WKDW IXQQ\ ZRUG IURP RXU QDPH HYHQ WKRXJK WKHUH LV QR FKDQJH LQ RXU FRQYLFWLRQV +RZHYHU ΖȇP delighted to say that the church members thought through the reasoning for the changes and all came to embrace them. BAWTRY WI Misson & Springs WI Yet again our meeting was graced by a full moon; this time it was a strawberry moon accompanying us home in a perfectly clear sky after another HYHQLQJ RI H[FHOOHQW FRPSDQ\ cake and education. After two meetings which taught us about the darker sides of life, we relaxed and enjoyed watching Tribellica, a group of women IURP 6KHÉ? HOG SHUIRUPLQJ EHOO\ dancing. And then it was our turn to don a hip scarf adorned ZLWK JROG DQG VLOYHU FRLQV DQG WU\ VRPH RI WKH PRYHV LQWHJUDO to this type of dance - with YDU\LQJ GHJUHHV RI VXFFHVV Ζ must admit, but the majority of us had a go. What it did SURYH RI FRXUVH LV WKDW LW LV QRW DV HDV\ DV LW ORRNV 7KLV PDGH our admiration for Hayley and her friends all the greater as WKH\ HQGHG WKH HYHQLQJ ZLWK another performance of swirling skirts and shimmering hips. Bawtry Town Council - August 2018 Council Grants – Do you need help? Bawtry Town Council provide small grants to local not-for-profit organisations or individuals. The grants are for one-off projects or schemes that require funding. Normally applicants will need to demonstrate how the project promotes community life or benefits Bawtry residents Grants for individuals will also be considered if they can demonstrate an educational or other benefit that the individual would not gain without funding. Grant applications will now be considered in March and September each year (although time sensitive applications will also be considered throughout the year where required). If you want to apply for a grant please look at the criteria in our Grant Awarding Policy which is available on the website www.bawtrytowncouncil. com. Bawtry Enhancements

War Memorial Planning permission has now been granted for relocation of the war memorial to the library site. A new contractor has been approached to review the method statement agreed with the planning authority, to ensure the memorial is not damaged during the move. Current lead times are unknown but the Council are hopeful the relocation can still be scheduled this year or by early 2019

Meetings The next Council meeting is on Tuesday 11th September at 7.00pm Residents & Businesses are welcome to attend BTC meetings. There is a 15 minute public discussion period for specific questions to be put to Council. Please come along & get involved.

The Council has now secured sponsorship for all five town “Welcome to Bawtry” signs and hope to have the sponsorship plaques in place in the near future. Thanks is given to all the organisations who have agreed to sponsor, with the funding raised to be reinvested in new planters and flowers.to enhance the local area. The Council will also be investing in new planters on Market Hill and notice boards around the town to enable local organisations to promote community events.

Your DMBC Councillors Next Litter pick – 10am 4 August meeting at Kingswood Car Park Thank you to everyone who we see out and about who comment on this update - we are pleased you find it useful. It’s been a busy month and lots happening in Bawtry and sadly not all good - updates that we have received are provided below along with details about other work we are involved with. Post office I had a long conversation today with the Area manager responsible for Bawtry and he started with an apology that due to having to follow their formal processes he hadn’t been able to contact any representatives earlier to explain what is happening. He of course didn’t explain what had happened other than to say that they were now looking for a short term and long term solution for Bawtry. He was in no doubt that we needed a post office and at the time of writing the formal process requesting applications to run a post office will be on their website shortly. They are keen that this is run by a business that is sustainable so that we aren’t in the same position we are in now in a few months. Anyone can apply and they have criteria against which they assess all applications - this process as you would expect will take a few months. Therefore he is also trying to find a short term solution whereby a neighbouring post office offers a mobile service in Bawtry and this is currently being looked at with a location being identified. He agreed that as soon as he has any updates he will share them with myself and the Town Council. To assist our more older residents transport was arranged but this has only been used by a couple of people and therefore instead I and other residents have said that they are happy to take people to the post office who can’t get there. Please contact me if you are in this position or know anyone that is and we can make sure they are able to get to either Tickhill or Harworth Nat West Bank This is expected to go to auction on 4 September - the agent is Pugh and Co. - this was the latest update that I received. I know there are lots of rumours about who is bidding for the property - I am hoping that it becomes something that enhances the town and provides something for residents of all ages. Litter pick As you can see from the photo above, we are growing as a group with a number of volunteers now getting involved. We tidied up Gainsborough Road including the walk to the river so hopefully it will deter people from dropping litter. Our next scheduled litter pick is 4 August at 10 meeting at Kingswood Car park and working our way to Yorkshire Caravans - depending on the weather we do an hour or 2 but you are welcome to join us for as long as you can. Having had a chat with a resident at my surgery - Tickhill Road was highlighted and on my walk to Harworth I noticed that there was lots of litter so I am planning an extra one to tackle this. At the moment we rely on DMBCs street scene and area teams to provide our equipment but I have been given an application form to apply for the council’s seed funding for new groups to buy equipment, (do contact me if you know of a group that would benefit from this) so if this is successful we can keep our equipment each time as I know many of our volunteers take their litter picks and bags on their walks around the town which helps to keep the town looking nice. Training Flights I have been contacted by a number of residents who are being disturbed by training flights at the airport. I know from the 62 BAWTRY TODAY

Residents Group Facebook page that there are mixed views on this but there are residents who are really suffering because of the noise which is impacting on their quality of life. I have arranged a meeting with DMBCs environmental health officer and the airport to discuss residents’ concerns - I will provide an update of these discussions in my next update. Street scene requests I have asked the Street scene team for a number of areas to be addressed including outside Bawtry Hall, opposite the library and Tickhill Road. I am hoping that with grass cutting not being required, they will be able to tidy these areas very soon. Walkabout In my attempts to keep fit I walk around Bawtry and Austerfield to ensure I do my 10,000 steps every day. It gives me a great opportunity to identify problems, take a photo and report it to Doncaster Council so it can be dealt with. To formalise this Alan Claypole (BTC chair) and I will be having a monthly walk around Bawtry so do stop us if you see us and tell us your suggestions or concerns. Bawtry Heritage Group Thank you very much to residents who contacted me with old photos of the Town. The heritage corner is being established in the library (may already be there when you read this). In addition the group has now bought recording equipment so we can record resident’s stories about life in Bawtry. Do get in touch if you would like to tell your story. As well as developing the display in the library the group is making its final preparations for the heritage trail board that will be on Market Hill. We are trying to follow the colours and designs of the Town Council’s signs so we have consistent signage in Bawtry. We hope it will be of interest for both visitors and residents. Sports Day Well done to the organisers of this year’s Sports Day. It was really well organised and lots for people to do - whether in the races, visiting stalls or listening and watching the artists performing.
