Rechler Equity Partners Breaks Ground on The Hampton Business District

Rechler Equity Partners, the largest owner and operator of commercial properties on Long Island, recently broke ground on The Hampton Business District at Gabreski, a visionary new commercial, medical and technology development in Westhampton Beach. “This is an important day for Suffolk County and the economic future of the entire region,” observed County Executive Steven Bellone at the groundbreaking ceremony. “All of us in Suffolk County government and economic development congratulate Rechler Equity Partners on this milestone event.” Southampton Town Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst noted, “The Hampton Business District will make significant contributions to the continued growth of small and large businesses and to the evolution of the East End economy. Now that shovels are in the ground, we look forward to this ambitious development taking shape and offering companies a place to flourish and expand.” The groundbreaking ceremony at The Hampton Business District signifies that work has begun on 220 Roger’s Way, a 60,000-square-foot industrial building that will be followed by eight more buildings totaling 440,000

square feet. “The Hampton Business District is a business park that is beyond compare not just on the East End, but

throughout the Northeast,” explained Mitchell Rechler. “Companies locating here will operate in a campus-like environment where every business and employee need has been anticipated. The Hampton Business District is in a class all its own.” The Hampton Business District combines traditional materials with modern forms, and will offer space ranging from 1,333 square feet up to 100,000 square feet. Following the construction of 220 Roger’s Way, development will begin on two stateof-the-art office and medical buildings totaling 60,000 square feet. Both 205 Roger’s Way and 215 Roger’s Way are designed to suit the needs of the region’s growing healthcare sector. The Hampton Business District will also include a 145-room hotel, a restaurant, a day care center, a health club, and a bank. The project is the vision of Rechler Equity Partners, which has more than

half a century of Long Island development and leadership experience, including industrial, manufacturing, distribution, office and healthcare related projects. For decades Rechler Equity Partners has met the needs of Long Island’s leading employers, from the aeronautic, defense and manufacturing sectors to adaptive reuse and new construction that reflects the diverse and changing nature of the region’s economy.

“Love is in the Air at John Scotts Surf Shack” It is a little known fact that spending time at John Scotts can help you to meet the one you were meant to be with! Since the current owner’s took over at the beginning of Summer 2001, there has been something in the air when it comes to match making at this little shack on the bay. We don’t know if it’s the fresh salt air, the great lobster rolls and seafood, or the delicious drinks that are mixed up by the bartenders each night. Whatever it is, this little gathering place has helped in starting many relationships that have prospered over the years…many of them have turned into marriages!

Renee and Mark met in June 2001 when the restaurant was revamped and under new ownership. Mark was well acquainted with the owners as he always worked for them at other establishments in the Hamptons area. Renee started working as a waitress and Mark as a bartender…they formed a friendship and stayed in touch while Renee went back to college for her senior year after the first season. They officially began their relationship in 2002 when they returned for a second year of work at the restaurant and the rest is history! Renee and Mark married in December 2005 and decided to settle down in Westhampton where Mark grew up. They have two amazing little girls, Lily and Mia, who I am sure will both be future John Scotts waitresses! Kellie and Lew met in July 2006 while Kellie was a waitress and summering in Westhampton. Lew and his “Entourage” used to spend a lot of time at John Scotts and would be extremely friendly towards all of the staff…they soon became part of the JS family. Kellie had the night off and decided to come down for a few drinks….next thing we knew, Kellie and Lew were inseparable. They married in October 2008 and put down roots in the Westhampton area. Lew currently owns and runs his own local business and they have two beautiful children, Allie and Luke. Caroline and Jimmy were first introduced in 2008 and Caroline caught Jimmy’s eye immediately…while waitressing, she would wear her signature “red shirt” which helped her to stand out to Jimmy. There were many nights spent at JS while this relationship developed! Caroline was brought up in Breezy Point, NY…another tight knit beach community so she immediately loved the family and community at JS. They were married in June 2012 and just had a handsome little baby boy named Mark. Jimmy convinced Caroline to settle down in Eastport, just a stone’s throw away from Westhampton. You can see both of them occasionally still working at John Scotts! Jen and PJ met in June 2009 at John Scotts when Jen was the hostess and PJ was helping one of our nightly musicians set up…the musician also happened to be one of his best friends from college and they were in a share house down the road from the restaurant. Jen and PJ hit it off and spent many summer nights at John Scotts and in the Westhampton area. Jen and PJ were married in September 2012 and currently live in Huntington. They still find time to visit Westhampton on the weekends and head down to Dune Road as customers at John Scotts throughout the season. There are more John Scotts couples whose relationships are still blossoming and we hope that their love stories will turn out like the others! So if you are looking for great seafood, some fabulous cocktails or are simply trying to find love, John Scotts has it all!

Summer 2014 is here. It looked like the winter would never end, but then came Memorial day! We were wondering,what happened to spring? Then, just last week, we saw some magnificent tulips in front of the Beach Bakery and Simon was planting the summer flowers. The newly renovated Beach Bakery GRAND Cafe is very impressive! The new large front steps in front of the building look marvelous! The Cafe has a great assortment of soups and wraps. There is live music on the patio, for a very pleasant atmosphere. Beach Bakery Grand Cafe also features cookies, scones, gelato, french toast as well as tiramisu. We can also recommend the yogurt with raspberry sauce. When you come to Main Street in Westhampton Beach you will find local merchants & mom & pop stores. We would ask that you support these fine businesses, services & restaurants. The Quogue Wildlife Refuge Celebrating 80 Years! The Quogue Wildlife Refuge is a 305-acre nature preserve that is home to diverse wildlife including some that are permanently injured and require human care to survive. There are over seven miles of trails where you can explore a variety of habitats including the Pine Barrens, bogs, wetlands, a field, a tidal estuary, and the ecologically rare Dwarf Pines. A bobcat, red fox, owls, falcons, and a bald eagle are some of the native New York animals that have permanent injuries and are housed in the Outdoor Wildlife Complex which can be visited any day of the year. Our main trail is wheelchair and stroller friendly and all of the trails can be enjoyed in every season! Inside the Charles Banks Belt Nature Center, you will find a warm and friendly environment where you can observe wildlife through the huge windows that overlook Old Ice Pond. A variety of exhibits, turtles, snakes, a touch table, a childrenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s room, and a sitting area with a beautiful view of the pond can be enjoyed inside the Nature Center. The Quogue Wildlife Refuge (QWR) is having its 8th Annual Summer Gala, Wild Night for Wildlife, on July 26, 2014. Over 500 guests are expected, as it is our biggest fundraiser of the year! As a non-profit organization, the Refuge relies on community support, and all donations are tax deductible. The Refuge also offers a variety of nature related programs for all ages throughout the year, including our 45th season of the very popular Summer Ecology Program. For those folks who enjoy history, the Refuge has plenty of it. QWR was established in 1934 as the Southampton Township Wildfowl Association, specifically to provide habitat for local waterfowl. Prior to becoming a wildlife preserve, the Quogue Ice Company harvested ice on Old Ice Pond. On the grounds you can visit the Ice Harvesting Museum that has authentic, century-old tools.

We are more than a place to exercise your mind. On our second floor, you’ll discover the Idea Place, “where children and parents come to learn and grow”. You can also visit the Tween Scene, an alcove that’s reserved just for kids ages 10-12. In our Teens space, young adults can read, play video games, watch movies and visit with friends. The Library has something to offer everyone at any age. Our collection is diversified. Throughout the Library you will find DVDs, music CDs, digital audio and video players, video games, magazines, newspapers, graphic novels and of course, lots of books. Our patrons also have access to an extensive collection of eBooks and audiobooks that can be downloaded onto smart phones, laptops and tablet computers. If you are having trouble figuring out how to use that electronic reading device you recently received, then visit our LibraryGeeks at our Inspiration Bar (hours are available in the Library newsletter). Continue your education through Universal Class, which offers over 500 online classes all from the comfort of your own computer online on your own time schedule. The Westhampton Free Library has been the community’s educational hub since it opened its doors in March of 1897 with a charter granted by the State of New York and signed by Melvil Dewey, creator of the Dewey Decimal System. In 1951, our original Library Avenue building was opened and served the community for more than 100 years, providing generations of families with books, music and programming. In June 2010 our new state of the art Library opened its doors to the residents of Westhampton, Westhampton Beach, Quiogue, East Moriches, East Quogue, Eastport, Remsenburg and Speonk. Our Library is beautiful and environmentally responsible. The building features efficient lighting, occupancy sensors, high-efficiency heating and air conditioning units, plumbing that reduces water usage by 45% and solar panels that generate 8% of our energy. The Westhampton Free Library is a special place where families can come together to learn, read or just have fun. This summer we will offer hundreds of programs. OUR BEACHES

he Greater Westhampton communities are famous for their Atlantic Ocean white sugar sand beaches on the barrier island known as Dune Road. Which community you live in determines which beaches you can actually access. The Villages of Westhampton Beach, Quogue and West Hampton Dunes each have their own municipal beaches for their village residents while the surrounding hamlets and have fewer free options available to them. In addition to these municipal beaches, there are ample private beach clubs and hotel related accommodations that will oﬀer great beach experiences in the Greater Westhampton communities.

VILLAGE OF WESTHAMPTON BEACH RO ROGERS R BEACH – Full-service Main Village Beach Pa Pavilion just south of the Beach Lane Bridge is complete w with public restrooms, snack bar concession, changing ro rooms with lockers as well as both indoor and outdoor sh showers. Lifeguards are on duty during summer season.

LASHLEY BEACH @ JETTY 4 – Limited-service Village Beach Pavilion with public restrooms and outdoor showers. This is a preferred local surf spot with a more relaxed atmosphere also with lifeguards on duty during the summer season.

Both of these Village of Westhampton Beach locations maintain parking lots and are accessible by permit for Village residents at no cost. Rogers Beach and Lashley Beach will open on weekends starting May 21st through June 5th from 10am - 5pm. The beaches will be open 7 days a week starting June 12th through Labor Day, September 6th. Non-resident beach stickers may be obtained at the Municipal Building May 21th through August 7th, 2010 on Fridays between the hours of 4-7pm, and Saturdays from 9am to 1pm. The Village extends beach privileges as a courtesy to taxpayers and year-round residents residing in the hamlets of Westhampton, Quiogue, Remsenburg and Speonk for a charge of $350. Summer renters inside the Incorporated Village’s boundaries may obtain beach privileges for a fee of $350.00. Summer renters in the hamlets of Westhampton, Remsenburg, Speonk and Quiogue may obtain beach privileges for a fee of $650. At no time is random parking permitted on Dune Road for public beach access. Access to the Atlantic Ocean beach for Village residents and leaseholders ONLY is via a series of boardwalks over the dunes throughout the village.
