D

ear readers, it’s good to see you all again! To be honest, at one point, I thought it wouldn’t happen. I’m too old for these things! But when I saw winter approaching, with its long and boring nights... Well, I couldn’t let my dear readers drown into this darkness without some

more nice pictures. And here they are, believe me! Under this marvelous Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black cover (a dedication to all the printers and publishers reading us and also releasing beautiful pictures, with only 4 colors... what a challenge!) - I’ve been hesitating you know, I had made a nice blue, white and red cover (another tribute to ‘Magazine’) but it looked too... French. It’s not that I don’t like my flag (unlike a lot of French people), but I didn’t want to pressure you. There is already a lot of French things in this issue. Things AND photographers actually! Take Charlotte Gonzalez for example. Great photographer. The last one I contacted for this issue. She accepted my offer (or lack thereof, I’m skint actually) right away, with a smile, and sent me the beautiful stories she has the secret of. That’s French! We can be like that, yes. Or maybe not every time, but what we do know is how to tell stories with pictures. Benoît Chailleux knows that too - and takes us to his very own universe, all around France, at the end of this issue. This third issue of Timeshow also features some well-known faces (in fact, some well known talents: you know photographers are shy!), like John Beneke and Norbert Lösel. John Beneke, well, you know him: he’s the one you called genius in issue 1. I told you it was a bit strong, but you were really enthusiastic, so here he is again... nightwalking. Warping us in his square foils of American life. While on the other side of the planet, Norbert Lösel walks quietly in his little district of St Pauli. Those two have a sharp, slick eye when it comes to city life! And talking about city life... I think it’s high time to reveal one of Canada’s best kept secret: Laura-Lynn Petrick. Another Canadian photographer, yes, I know I feature them too much. But what can I do? You’ll understand me when you’ll read the stories Laura-Lynn chose to tell: her pictures are full of those human feelings you knew so well - before you spent your life in front of a screen. And miles away from her raw and violent world, you’ll find Alex O’Brien. In a wispy world of geometry and light traces of uncertain civilizations, that’s where you’ll find him. In England. Relax, I’m joking! To calm you down, take a look at Win Tam’s work at the end of this issue. It’s oh so quiet... Just like the coming winter... A great time for fireside storytelling!

With all good wishes,

The editorial writer

The layout of this magazine is inspired by the legendary underground gay mazine “MAGAZINE” published by Didier Lestrade and Mistgris from 1981 to 1986. “MAGAZINE” was an example, not only in the design but also in the determination of those who were doing it, specially Didier Lestrade. The battles he fought to keep his magazine going, at a time when it costed a lot of money, time and energy, inspire respect. While “TIMESHOW” is not a gay magazine, it is clear that this culture still inspires creators worldwide. This layout is a tribute to people who never stopped fighting for what they believed in. Let’s walk on their tracks.
