Maliouris (TBE): “Pronti a cogliere la ripresa” The annual general assemblies of the European and Italian brick and tile industries were held jointly for the first time ever at an event organised in Naples on 19 and 20 June last year. At the event, Yiannis Maliouris (CEO of B. Maliouris) was elected President of TBE, the European brick and tile manufacturers’ federation, taking over from Heimo Scheuch (CEO of Wienerberger). After serving for six years as President, Scheuch will stay on as part of the TBE leadership team in the position of Vice President. Yiannis Maliouris During the meeting, Maliouris and Scheuch reaffirmed the importance of TBE as the representative body for the entire European brick and tile industry and welcomed the decision to organise the 2014 Assembly together with the Italian association ANDIL. As the two businessmen pointed out, today’s Federation is an efficient organisation which must continue its efforts to work alongside the European institutions in promoting the sector and its presence in Europe and to support companies in addressing challenges within the European legal framework. Bricks and tiles are the preferred construction materials in residential building in Europe, the TBE leaders noted, as they ensure energy efficiency and durability and can be used to build affordable housing across Europe.

Brick World Review spoke to Yiannis Maliouris to discuss the future of TBE and of the brick and tile industry in Europe.
L’industria dei laterizi europea e quella italiana si sono ritrovate, per la prima volta insieme, all’appuntamento annuale delle relative assemblee generali il 19 e 20 giugno 2014 a Napoli. Nell’occasione, Yiannis Maliouris (CEO di B. Maliouris) è stato eletto presidente di TBE, la Federazione europea dei produttori di laterizi, prendendo il posto di Heimo Scheuch (CEO di Wienerberger). Dopo sei anni di presidenza, Scheuch è rimasto comunque ai vertici di TBE con il ruolo di vicepresidente. Durante il meeting, Maliouris e Scheuch hanno ribadito l’importanza di TBE come organo di rappresentanza dell’intera industria europea dei mattoni e delle tegole e hanno accolto con favore l’organizzazione dell’assemblea 2014 insieme all’associazione nazionale italiana ANDIL. I due imprenditori hanno inoltre sottolineato come la Federazione sia divenuta oggi una struttura efficiente, che dovrà proseguire gli sforzi per lavorare insieme alle istituzioni europee al fine di sviluppare ulteriormente il settore, la sua presenza in Europa ed essere al fianco delle aziende nell’affrontare le sfide nell’ambito del quadro giuridico europeo. Mattoni e tegole, hanno ricordato i vertici di TBE, sono i materiali da costruzione preferiti nell’edilizia residenziale in Europa, forniscono efficienza energetica e resistenza nel tempo e garantiscono anche alloggi a prezzi accessibili in tutta Europa. Brick World Review ha intervistato il presidente Yiannis Maliouris in merito al futuro di TBE e dell’industria dei laterizi in Europa.
BWR: Which countries does TBE represent today? Yiannis Maliouris: TBE membership covers the overwhelming majority of the European brick and tile industry, with national associations and companies from 22 European Union member states plus Norway, Russia and Switzerland.
BWR: Qual è il grado di rappresentanza di TBE oggi? Yiannis Maliouris: TBE associa e rappresenta la stragrande maggioranza del settore europeo dei laterizi, con le associazioni nazionali di categoria e le relative aziende provenienti da 22 Stati membri dell’Unione Europea, ai quali si aggiungono Norvegia, Russia e Svizzera.
BWR: How does the association operate? Y. Maliouris: TBE activities are organised around specialised working groups of technical experts, while the overall management of the association is carried out by the Executive Committee and General Assembly. Members are regularly informed about
