THE WORD IS OUT: Three Stages at Folsom Lake College changed its name. The new name, Harris Center for the Arts, honors Dr. Brice Harris, Chancellor Emeritus of the Los Rios Community College District, for his many contributions to the capital region. The facility’s signage and publicity has been updated— but rest assured, the quality of artistry and customer service you have come to expect remains, constant and unchanged. Welcome to the 2013-14 Season of Performing Arts! Dear Patron, One of the joys of a new performing arts center is discovering what it does well and what it does best. Each venue is different, each has its own nuances. Three things are clear about the Harris Center: • Artists love to play here, and they tell us so. They love the audience, the venue, the people who work behind the scenes, and this community. Bravo to all of you! • We have an exceptional house for Broadway shows and we have gone out of our way this season to bring fresh new material from the bright lights of New York (see pg. 4). • We’re a great facility for dance, and we’re offering you a lot of it (see pgs. 8 and 18). If ever there was a year for you to immerse yourself in dance—to try some performances
on for size and allow yourself to be taken by surprise—this is the year. For that is the greatest joy of a performing arts center: introducing new things to you, our audience, and waiting to hear that rustle of excitement in the hall following a great performance. We remain the same three stages, with a brand new name: The Harris Center for the Arts. New name, and still a new facility, with more to reveal to us all. Here’s to just getting started! Inspired by the film of the same name, Bring It On: The Musical is a high-flying journey through friendship, forgiveness and determination, based on the competitive world of high school cheerleading and its over-the-top team rivalries. Antonio Zambujo The New Fado “We are taking what the Gypsies did, traveling from India to the Balkans and on to Western Europe and putting together the best musical ideas from every nation along the way. We’re open to the world, and we just take everything we like and make it one,” explains clarinet wonder Ismail Lumanovski. The All-Stars grew up jamming with local roots musicians. Zakir Hussain & Masters of Percussion Zakir Hussain is today appreciated both in the field of percussion and the music world at large as both an international phenomenon and one of the greatest musicians of our time. A classical tabla virtuoso of the highest order, his historic collaborations include Shakti (which he founded with John McLaughlin and L. Shankar) and artists as diverse as George Harrison, YoYo Ma, Van Morrison, and Mark Morris. STAGE ONE
STAGE ONE 850-Seat Theater With a 46-foot proscenium, a full stage house, and orchestra pit, this venue is capable of presenting all of the arts, from Broadway to symphonies, from contemporary dance to world music. Stage One puts the artists close to the audience, in an intimate venue reminiscent of the Globe Theater in England.

STAGE TWO 200-Seat City Studio Theater So named for the generous support by the City of Folsom, the City Studio has gently raked seating and, like Stage One, there isn’t a bad seat in the house. It’s a unique performance space in the capital region.
STAGE THREE 95-Seat Scott-Skillman Recital Hall An exceptional setting for acoustic music and vocals — the reverberation is exquisite. Harris Center at its most intimate, the Scott-Skillman Recital Hall offers a phenomenal space for classical music, film and more.
Harris Center at Folsom Lake College is a $50 million regional facility built to present, produce, and teach the arts. The Center features three intimate state-of-the-art performance spaces, an art gallery, one of the region’s largest recording studios, and spacious educational facilities—all tucked into an 80,000 square foot complex overlooking Folsom, conveniently located with plenty of safe parking.

A LITTLE HISTORY The search by the Los Rios Community College District for an exceptional high-tech educational facility began in 1964, but it wasn’t until 1997, when state outlay funds became available, that construction of the current Folsom Lake College facilities was undertaken. Folsom Lake College received initial accreditation in 2004. Today, Folsom Lake College operates at three sites. The growth in enrollment, personnel, facilities, services, and education programs has been explosive, as evidenced by the opening of Harris Center at Folsom Lake College, as well as by its broad educational offerings in the sciences, humanities, technology, and the arts. The college has cultivated a reputation for unequaled dedication, unparalleled service, and a passionate pursuit of excellence that is respected by its colleagues in higher education, appreciated by its business partners, supported by its students, and energized and fueled by its staff.

Tickets may be exchanged for another performance of the same titled show with a 48-hour notice prior to the date of the originally scheduled performance. A fee of $3.00 will apply to each ticket exchange. All programs, artists, dates, and prices subject to change.

All patrons are required to have a ticket, including youngsters sitting on laps. Parents are expected to take into account the subject and nature of performances when selecting shows for their children, and to make sure etiquette is a part of the theater-going experience. Parents will be asked to remove disruptive children.

ACCESSIBILITY The Harris Center is accessible to patrons with disabilities. Wheelchair seating is available in all venues. Portable wireless listening devices are available with a small, refundable deposit or driver’s license. ASL interpreters are available for select events, when requested in advance. Please inform the Ticket Office of any special needs when ordering tickets.
PARKING Ample event parking is available in Lots C and D on the northwest side of the Folsom Lake College campus near the Harris Center. For weekday events, a $1 parking permit is required — this is included with tickets purchased in advance, or may be picked up at Will Call upon arrival. No permit is required on Friday evenings after 5 pm or anytime on Saturday or Sunday.
