Schettino is currently under house arrest and faces charges of causing a shipwreck and abandoning ship as well as multiple counts of manslaughter after crashing the vessel into a rocky shoal, which was clearly marked on nautical charts and tourist maps. According to Schettino, there was tremendous pressure from his superiors to perform the maneuver, which ultimately led to the ship running aground on the Italian island of Giglio. During one of his recorded phone calls, Schettino is alleged to have said, “Management was always saying ‘pass by there, pass by there.’ Someone else in my position might not have been so amenable to pass so close, but they busted my balls. ‘Pass by there, pass by

And my heart speeds at the rate of Engines. “Hey you!” Someone calls out. Then the shock channels through my brain While the blood blitz to my neck’s veins. My pace hastens along with my Pulse. A hand clutches my shoulder— I spin around. “You dropped this,” says A mall cop, handing me a ten.
