For those of you that are not aware, the IPC is streamed live every year. It is a wonderful opportunity to see beau ful images and to listen in as the judges give insight about their decision to merit an image (or place it in the Loan Collec on). Be warned that listening in on compe on is highly addic ve, especially if you have entered images. So, for those that are aware of live streaming compe on, you might imagine that I am challenged to shut off the computer and go enjoy my family…you would imagine correctly! Good luck to all of you who have entered this year’s compe on. I also wanted to share with you that Buz Marvins of Kaye Marvins Photography contacted the guild. With the closing of the Kaye Marvins studio, he has donated the studio’s inventory of frames to the guild. We will bring a small selec on of these frames to the August mee ng to be offered for sale at incredibly reduced prices. Guild members will be no fied of the arrangements that will be made for the sale of the remainder of the frames. Thank you to Buz Marvins for his kind gi and his con nued service to the guild. I can’t wait to see you at the next mee ng! Teri P.S. Don’t forget to sign up for Photogenesis in San Marcos (September 30 – October 2, 2016). You will be glad that you did! Go to tppa.org to learn more.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

CONTENTS

Gree ngs! I hope that you are all safe and well! My family and I are preparing to depart for our annual trip to New Mexico. As our family has expanded and grown, we ’s find it increasingly difficult to coordinate our children’s and grandchildren’s schedules so that we can managee a week together once a year. So, for the third year in a row, our trip has landed on the same week as the Interna onal Photographic Compe on (IPC).

PPGH IMAGE COMPETITION AND AWARDS | Sherry Piche Thank you to everyone who has entered in PPGH’s local Image Compe ons this year. The end of the year tallies of the Local Award winners will be announced in January 2017. Image compe on is an excellent way to help us improve as ar sts. Our local image compe on is a great way to “test the waters” with an image you’re thinking to enter into the Regional or Na onal level. I like to think of this as a “test the waters” for judging and to receive local cri que before submi ng your final image to the next level(s). At our monthly PPGH Image Compe on, Students, Aspiring, Ac ve and Masters categories allow our members to compete against their individual member categories. HOW THE MONTHLY AWARDS ARE DETERMINED: Monthly Ribbon Winners

Ribbon Colors are: RED – Masters, BLUE – Ac ve, White – Aspiring & Students FOR PPGH ANNUAL AWARDS: Sub-Category Awards:

Year End Awards in sub-categories Master and Ac ve Membership Classifica ons will be awarded as follows: The Image that has the highest score (an 80 or above) will determine the winner for that sub-category for both the Master and Ac ve Membership Classifica ons. If there is not an image which meets the above criteria, then no award will be given in that category. NOTE: Sub-Category Awards will not be awarded for Aspiring or Student as this is considered a full member benefit. REQUIREMENT FOR DETERMINING THE PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR:

IMAGE COMPETITION AWARDS

The top 3 Images in each membership category scoring an 80 or higher will receive ribbons for Masters, Ac ve, Aspiring and Student. In the event that no Student scores an 80 or above, the highest score above a 75 will be recognized. Any e will be broken using the decimal in scoring. In the event there is an exact e, two ribbons shall be awarded for that place. In this instance there could be four or more ribbons based on exact e.

There will be one Photographer of the Year in both the Master and Ac ve Membership Category and will be judged using the following criteria: Par cipant must enter at least 5 monthly mee ng image compe ons (registered and present) Par cipant must enter a minimum of 9 images in any category The top (5) scoring images will be added together (no ma er what the score) The individual with the highest cumula ve score will receive Photographer of the Year. IN THE CASE OF A TIE: The individual with the highest print score will be awarded Photographer of the Year. In the case of a e for the highest print score, the decimal system will be used to determine the winner. Best of luck to all of the 2016 entrants! We hope to see you at our January 2017 Mee ng for our Annual Award Ceremony! THE VIEWFINDER
