The Clear Lake area is full of star-studded performances all throughout November, and T-Bone Tom’s will be no exception when the Sheila Marshall Band returns to their stage with their special blend of Americana, rock, country and blues later this month.

At the helm of the Sheila Marshall Band is, of course, the bluesyvoiced Texas-tinged country rock star Sheila Marshall. A native of Nacogdoches, she has been blowing audiences away for over two decades with a career that began with a local rock band, and has seen her rise to fame through the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Tv’s talent show “Nashville Star” (of which she was a top-10 finalist, singing with Willie Nelson and Rodney Crowell), several ranking singles on the Texas Music Chart, and tours entertaining audiences spanning the globe.

“growing up in Nacogdoches, I always loved music. I started singing in church then school, and I took voice and piano lessons. Later I earned a music scholarship and attended college, but later quit and joined a rock band. At that point, I packed up and moved to Houston with my boyfriend at the time, Scott Steinsiek. I played all over Houston at first four hours a night four days a week with just a handful of originals. I slowly started writing more original songs and started playing better venues along the way. I traveled a lot, learned a lot about music, a band, and the business in general,” Marshall said of her personal music journey. - Continued on Page 28

The Houston-born and Austin-based blues guitar great Alan Haynes will headline the 15th Anniversary Party at Katie’s Bar on Friday, November 29. Haynes, who started playing the guitar at age 8, has been playing professionally since the ‘70s and has performed with all-time legends including Stevie Ray vaughan, Johnny Winter, Albert Collins, Albert King, Jimmie vaughan, Bonnie Raitt, John Lee Hooker, and otis Rush among others. Haynes has recorded six albums and contributed to at least as many. His following stretches across the planet including a very strong backing in Europe where he tours often.
“Alan plays all over the world,” explained Katie’s owner and musician Bob Emmons. “He is a blues guitar master who has influenced many guitarists including local artists The Mighty orq and Tony vega. He is an amazing musician, and we are proud to have him perform at Katie’s.” Located in the old Bacliff Post office and owned my musicians, Katie’s has gained a reputation as one of the region’s top music venues with an impressive mix of impressive local and national touring acts taking the stage 5 to 6 nights a week depending on the time of year. SCENE music columnist Andy Eng has a timetested and proven theory that if an act shows up on the Katie’s calendar that he hasn’t heard of, it is an out-of-town touring act not to miss and always turns out to be a great show.

What began as a country music stars series earlier this fall at Jackie’s Brickhouse with award-winning singer Sundance Head of American Idol fame is going out with a bang — with some twang! — this month at Jackie’s Brickhouse. During two special Thursdays in November, some of the most prominent names in regional country music, particularly from Texas, descend upon the stage for some truly memorable nights. For November 14, this includes Cody Canada and Stacy Steele; and as a great finale, on the 21st Jake Bush will open for celebrated Texas country/Red Dirt singer-songwriter and musician Brandon Rhyder. A native of Carthage, Texas, Rhyder has gained significant notoriety in just a little over a decade. Though his success has been relatively recent, the music bug bit at a very young age.

“The catalyst was really my mother. She’s a singer, and she can play many different instruments. She would sing all day and point things out about different songs and ask me things like, ‘Did you hear that? What does that mean?,’ so from an early age I was surrounded by songs and thinking about what they meant,” he said. “I was also in church, band, and choir and all that all throughout school. I could have easily gone to college for music, but ultimately decided on a different career. It just seemed far-fetched to dream of becoming a singer-songwriter.”
Fast-forward to the end of college, and to the late ’90s, and what used to just be a hobby — writing songs and picking up the guitar during his college years — began to take shape as something very real when he landed a gig in Austin that ultimately provoked his move to the city to pursue a career in music. “Becoming involved in that scene and meeting and working with musicians who would become pivotal to my career made moving to Austin an easy move. I went to a lot of open mics, writers in the round, benefits, you name it,” Rhyder recalled. Within a few years of his move, his debut album Because She Loves Me (2001) was born, followed shortly thereafter by his second, Behind the Pine Curtain (2003).

“That second record was more edgy, not quite as country. I was still trying to find my way through the sound. I quickly became friends with the great Walt Wilkins, and he produced my third album,” Rhyder recalled. Conviction was released in 2005, and several singles from this album and those that followed quickly began to climb the Texas charts, including “Before I Knew Your Name,” the first of which to gain this notoriety.
“I’ve always tried to follow my own path, so every record sounds different. It’s literally a record. It’s a stamp of that particular time, and records that period of time I was going through,” he said. “I’ve always been caught on the fringe [genre-wise]. I don’t write for a genre, and that for me is the beautiful part of being a writer. When the passion and inspiration take over, that’s when the truly great songs happen.” Rhyder, who describes his music and shows as “country roots on the fringe,” is currently in the process of creating his next album, which is expected to be out by early next year.

Caps & Corks has been helping men and women enjoy shopping “together” for more than six years, and they are looking forward to another exciting holiday shopping season.
Prominently positioned at the entrance of Baybrook Mall’s food court, Caps & Corks cocktail bar now offers more seating, more selections of adult beverages and other amenities not previously available at their original location. Caps & Corks offers shoppers the opportunity to sip while they shop every day of the week. guests can take their drinks with them as they stroll from store to store inside the mall. (Yes, really!) or, for those who prefer to take a break from shopping, they can sit down around the bar and relax with a glass of wine, a cold beer or a cocktail. Another option: guests can enjoy their drinks in the mall’s huge outdoor area in front of the big screen, a very popular area on game days when they show Houston sports teams (think: Texans) and during movie nights in the summertime. Sports fans particularly enjoy the buckets of beer Caps & Corks has to offer, especially since guests don’t have to make the trek back inside to return the buckets. An exciting new feature for guests at the new location is the addition of USB ports and outlets next to the purse hangers along the underside of the bar offering guests the opportunity to charge their phones while they re-charge themselves to continue shopping or just decompress. With two large HDTvs, Caps & Corks feels like a sports bar oasis offering a great answer to the “I just can’t miss the game” excuse or a “husband daycare” for wives who would like to keep their guy occupied while they drop their bags with him and keep shopping. “our customers had been predominately male in the past, but lately we’ve been getting a lot of ladies who prefer to have ‘sip and shop’ days over ‘girls night out’ with their group of friends,” said owner Stephanie Warren.
Caps & Corks offers a variety of wines, specialty cocktails and a selection of craft beers (including seasonal gem Shiner’s Christmas Cheer, Love Street by Karbach, Rodeo Clown, Hopadillo and Art Car), and they now serve draft beer with Dos Equis, Michelob Ultra and Crawford Bock as the mainstays and a rotating tap (Shiner Holiday Cheer will soon be replacing Art Car). Each of the bartenders has a specialty drink named after themselves, and the girls regularly come up with clever names for their specialty drinks and shots such as Sugar Momma or Daddy, Retail Therapy, Smoking Credit Card and Big Spender plus much more.

Happy Hours are Monday through Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with $3 Mimosas, $4 House Wine and $6 Long Island Teas/Shopaholics; and all day on Sunday with $3 Mimosas and $6 Bloody Marys. Although they opened in 2013, Warren said on a daily basis, they still have shoppers walking up in disbelief asking the bartenders if they can really order an alcoholic beverage, walk away with it and then actually stroll around the mall stores with their drink in hand. The employees laugh and take it all in stride as they repeat the phrase once again, “Yes, really!”

2019 Seabrook Celebration
greetings! We shared with many of you a great run in october ringing in Texas Autumn, caught some fantastic fall festival action, and sampled a hearty variety of live music events out on the SCENE. Let’s run down the list:

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE DAY - Which was the Seabrook Celebration at Meador Park. We arrived late missing the ziggy Band, a fun looking party group making the festival exclusively country with
Bubba Westly, Flatland Cavalry, and Jack Ingram. All had a country twang with a nice edge as each of these C&W bands looked like they were playing vox amps. A curious combination. The festival organizers assembled a great family friendly outing this year with an abundance of free kids activities, super vendors, convenient shuttles, and picture perfect weather making for an over-the-top event. Well done!!!

CTRL-ALT-DEL - Sometimes, the world gets goofy and that happened to me in october, and it was straight to Scout Bar for a Spazmatics show I went... My kind of chicken soup! owners Thomas and Aline Wilson have really done a great job at this gem of a concert lounge: Scout Bar along with Bonez Draught House & Sports Bar are holiday season ready to host you and your out-of-town guests in the months ahead.
As for Spazmatics, if you’re a rare one who’s never heard this band, picture their opening, the classic anthem from The Clash, “Rock the Casbah” complete with cowbell — and getting away with it. This band takes adults and makes them act young again like no other band — Try it yourself and see. Their new front man, zeke, has settled in nicely and presents impressive musical talents to jog the memory, make big grown men applaud and the ladies swoon. Musically, Spazmatics takes a couple liberties yet audiences never seem to mind. I don’t!
NEW ACT ON THE BEAT - Which is the duo of Ricky Williams (Sofa Kingz) and Danny Lopez (obsolete August) performing Super okay interpretations of mainstream classic rock covers a light and breezy reggae foundation that wasn’t in-yourface but refreshing. I place this blend squarely into the genre of “music to dine by” as well as hold intelligent conversations, both available each Wednesday night at Jackie’s Steak Night. These cats are on to something… A treat in particular of mention is Williams & Lopez’s interpretation of Hotel California done like no other. Super okay @ Williams Jackie’s brickhouse lays down a svelte “phasic” pad for the two smooth vocalists to sing over, pleasing in itself, but the outro, wow! We’re know the Walsh & Felder guitar ending but this time it’s Lopez going Keith Moon on his percussion rig which - Crazy cool inventive. I’m positive my predecessor, the late Jim Shortt, never heard Lopez play, but I picture him shouting “Bravo!!!”
Speaking of the late Jim Shortt, I’ve been consolidating copious quantities of photos from over the years and happened upon the photo collection inherited from Jim. Lots of you people are in them. Been chatting with the front office here at The SCENE with an idea for a special photo album of Jim’s work on The SCENE Facebook page. More to follow.

RESET {STATE-OF-MIND} - Was what I needed, and to T-Bone Tom’s I went for an evening of Pirates and Poets. great job patrons, you’ve got it down right: Wait for the Hwy. 146 rush hour madness to pass, head to the Lighthouse District driving friendly, the Texas way and parking it at T-Bone’s for the evening where the awesome staff has you covered for the stay. Jon Burns has done a super job at bringing TropRock to the award winning stage at T-Bone’s and to our area. He deserves a good Citizen’s Award. This night’s talented line-up included Eric Erdman, Danny Rasado, and Dennis McCaughy. Songwriters, each of them, Erdman brought his Nashville hardened playing and voice, sang of complicated love and relationship songs whenever your love badmouths your hometown — I can get it. Rosado was witty satire and humor singing in Buffet and Jim Stafford (Wild Wood Weed) tradition. McCaughy was thoughtful — Living today forgetting yesterday’s wind, not looking back, being one’s self, and the wisdom of skipping tequila for sangria wine. Wise…. FINAL DAYS OF SUMMER - I share again… A decade ago when my tenure with The SCENE started, Andy Upchurch gave me good advice, “Keep an eye on two piece groups. There’s nobody to hide behind if something goes wrong. They’ve gotta be strong performers.” And onto the radar came Southbound, a duo of Steve Johnson and Jimmy Johns who proceeded taking the area by storm. Johnson says “Southbound scored a huge break when Jerry Diaz took us under his wing” and into the realm of Parrothead Musicland where the band make quick work of putting revelers into party frenzy mode.

over the years, the duo added greg Tillman on drums before taking a hiatus due to daytime job disruptions. Yet despite being scattered across the country, the groups still manages getting together for special occasions and in october, this included a party at the home of Wood & Wind. Unfortunately, Johns was battling a case of food poisoning, yet the show went on with Tillman stepping in on six string. Every band should have a line up this strong. This Clear Lake original has been taking care of locals and International appetites for decades, serving to the likes of Sir Paul McCartney, Mariah Carey, gloria Estefan, Bon Jovi, Cher, Cold Point, Jessica Simpson and most importantly, us. In october, vera Raqs provided mesmerizing dance a visual treat for the eyes. vera pulled off two feats, a dual sword dance *and* getting a good handful of diners up and dancing for a hoot of a good time I’ve never seen. Local musico, Jeff Lopez, has been on the SCENE at TBone Tom’s with his full band and as a soloist at the former Mainly Drinks. At Mediterraneo, he was the smoothest I’ve ever heard Lopez playing a custom AC-10 Carvin and taking the tempo down to an unheard of 55 bpm. With a natural voice akin to James Taylor, Lopez also sings Clapton well and also plays a nice Simon and garfunkel. ‘60s music served sweet by Lopez… - Continued on Page 31

LooSe NoTeS: Continued From Page 32 LIVE MOJO - This band surprised me the first time I saw them at Katie’s a couple months ago - a follow up was in order. They’ve made a solid mark on my new band of the year list earlier and solidified their position in october. This band is well anchored on all the corners with Bob Emmons (guitar/vocals), Joe Campise (drums), gary grose (bass) and Barry Seelen (keyboards/Leslie) stalwarts in our local professional live music community.

I asked grose about his unique way of handling the bass “It’s all about getting the tone I’m after.” grose plays for “many” bands in the region and when asking of all the places he can play, why Katie’s. He tells me that of all the “Katie’s has the best musical vibe I’ve ever played at.” I thought similar but hearing this from such a travelled musician scores huge cred’ for the music listening hall in Bacliff.
Seelen left the Hammond at home this evening and brought out a viscount to plug into the Leslie. When I asked why, he reaches over and lifts the instrument with one hand and says with a smile, “It only weighs 30 pounds!” To my ears, the viscount to Motif & Leslie string nailed it perfectly. Seelen went on describing his keyboard collection including a 1912 Steinway (that’s aging nicely) and a rig he leaves at the church. I think I would like to hear this Houston live music keyboard presence play at church some day. Blues Brothers comes to mind?
There are still two months left in 2019, and there is a chance I will catch a band that will take my new band of the year honors, but Live Mojo is presently sitting strong. Catch them at Katie’s.

MAD DASH - It was the night of game Six of the ALCS, and I wasn’t sure how good the live music would be. Turns out the music vibe was super strong as we stopped in at Railean Distillery, and Katie’s before wrapping it up at T-Bone Tom’s. Arriving at Railean’s, the crew was wrapping up a distillery run filling San Leon night with a rich steamy aroma of good things in the making. Inside, listeners were multitasking nicely: watching the game, enjoying tasty house cocktails, (I opted for the vodka & pineapple) and entertained by Singer-Songwriter, Sarah Burton from Toronto through the Terlingua. Burton is a self described “crossover musician” and in the span of her three sets, ran the dial from docile newwave country, and finishing the evening with gritty blues. Checking the Railean calendar their line up is looking strong through the holiday season.

on grand Blvd. at Katie’s, we caught middle innings and live music with The David Scher Band from ATX. Joining Scher was Mark Epstein (Bass) and Dan Frezek (Drums) doing a great job holding the groove for Scher to operate. The stage presence of this group was outstanding all of the instruments played without mixing into the house The David Scher band @ katie’s bar system. I liked the way this group opened the evening with a jazzy bee bop to get settled in. I scored two of Scher’s CDs, “Porch Talk” and “Live at Austin City Jams” and pleased hearing both were live show recordings. No retakes...
We wrapped up the night at T-Bone Tom’s where the Karavan to the Keys was passing through. The combined forces of Jerry Diaz Hannas Reef and Donny Brewer presented Trop Rock, big band style. Brewer is often behind the scenes making shows happen but as this was his birthday weekend, he was ripping the stage playing a most unique Trop Rock instrument, a gritty gibson Sg. REAL DEAL - The past few months, local musicians have been making music at Franca’s Real Italian Restaurant. I decided to check out the action, and did we score! Adorned through and through with a detailed touch, this Clear Lake classic restaurant is a friend of the music, theater, diners, sports and to all. A great place to hang out with family and friends. We enjoyed an evening of Jason Allcorn serenading the house with a song list spanning decades. Allcorn hosts “The vocalists” at recently opened Cut Foil. He’s a real deal. The house stage lighting and sound system is amongst the best I’ve seen in the area. Check it out! Franca’s Real Italian and Jason Allcorn made it on my radar and we will be following up more on the two.
IT’S A WRAP - By the time you read this, the baseball season will have played the final game of the year and either way, our hometown team gave us lots to cheer for. The holidays are arriving and ‘tis time to gather with family and friends. Safe travel wishes to those heading out. “Then, for a few years, from about 2015 to 2018 I had a duo named Rivers and Rust, and we toured with Matchbox Twenty and Counting Crows as well as on our own. When that ended, I went back to Texas and released my newest album good to Be Me, which was co-produced by Ray Wylie Hubbard,” she said.
A star in her own right, Marshall has worked with legends as Hubbard, as well as several other quite well-known names in her songwriting stages over the years, including Lincoln Parrish from Cage the Elephant, Mike Fiorentino who has songs penned with Colt Ford, and Kyle Cook from Matchbox Twenty. The current lineup of the Sheila Marshall Band, apart from Marshall herself, includes Steinsiek (rhythm guitar); Marion Aqulina (lead guitar); Mike Meade (bass); and Walter Cross (drums). one aspect of Marshall’s band that cannot be overlooked is the fact that it is a female-fronted band, something that even in 2019 is not as common in a male-dominated industry and genre. This is something that Marshall has observed to have its own challenges and advantages.
“I think the biggest challenge on the club level is most bar owners want to sell liquor, and rowdy guys with rowdy songs are better at that,” she laughed. “I’ve been pretty fortunate in most cases, though. Being a female has helped me because it’s different in that most bands have a male lead singer. Also, being in a band on the road with a group of guys is fun when you’re doing well. I mean it’s a blast, but it’s not so much fun when it’s lean, and you’ve been at it for a while in a crowded van. I think a lot of women quit because it’s a very different lifestyle,” she said. Marshall, who counts other female musicians such as Patsy Cline, Lucinda Williams, and Sheryl Crowe as influences and role models in music, has had her fair share of memorable shows while being on this very different tour road.
“I’d have to say playing Japan, Korea, Hawaii, Paris and our 2017 tour with Matchbox Twenty and Counting Crows were all shows I’ll never forget. The most memorable, though, is when we played in Iraq and Kuwait for the troops. They were so welcoming and excited to see us. That was a very surreal gig. We actually stayed in the Saddam Hussein Al-Faw Palace — which was beautiful, but very creepy,” she recalled. And what does Marshall hope an audience takes away from her band’s performances, like the one this month at T-Bone Tom’s?
“I’d like for the audience to feel something in the songs they hear and enjoy the time they have with us...I’d like for them to say, ‘That was some talent I just saw, and I need to get her music and share it,” Marshall said, who is also currently working on a new album.
The Sheila Marshall Band hits the stage next in the Bay Area from 5 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, November 24 at T-Bone Tom’s in Kemah, with additional upcoming shows around Houston (more information, and music available at sheilamarshall.com). Bright lights and boats of all kinds will meet December 14 at 6 p.m. for the 58th Annual Christmas Boat Lane Parade on Clear Lake presented by the Cities of Clear Lake Shores, Kemah, League City, Nassau Bay and Seabrook and produced by the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. The parade will line up in the Nassau Bay Lagoon and South Shore Harbour Marina, travel the channel past Seabrook and the Kemah Boardwalk out into galveston Bay and return. These beautifully decorated sail and power boats will dazzle and entertain thousands of spectators with their brightly colored holiday lights, music and designs. Some boats will be decorated traditionally and others will look very unique. The boats will travel past spectators in viewing locations including South Shore Harbour Marina, Kemah Boardwalk, Nassau Bay Lagoon, Clear Lake Shores and the Constellation Pointe / David Road Canal. Spending time with loved ones and enjoying these brightly decorated vessels is a great way to kick off the holiday season. Each restaurant offers a full bar, complete with happy hours and impressive options in their drink menu as well. You don’t have to order a Margarita, but you may want to jump on the bandwagon.
“We have even been given the title ‘Best Margarita’ from various local publications,” said Herrera.

Passion is what fuels Luna’s Mexican Restaurants. They have been enthusiastically catering events in Houston and the surrounding area since 1986, and their professional staff has become catering aficionados. The family-owned restaurant originally opened in a Baytown strip center, and bit by bit expanded into other cities. In 2005, Luna’s built an impressive freestanding flagship restaurant in Baytown (730 W. Cedar Bayou-Lynchburg across from Wal-Mart). Luna’s now extends to three other locations: Friendswood (704 W. Parkwood across from HEB), Texas City (9300 E. F. Lowry Expressway in the shopping center next to the Mall of the Mainland) and League City (6555 South Shore Blvd. in Kroger shopping center).
Although they are known for their delicious Mexican dishes and award-winning Margaritas, Luna’s catering menu offers quite the variety of cuisine from seafood dishes and American classics like Buffalo wings and finger sandwiches (ham and cheese, roast beef, turkey, chicken or tuna salad) to traditional Italian dishes like chicken Florentine and lasagna. With the holiday season approaching, Luna’s catering coordinators are an invaluable asset to making sure your holiday party runs smoothly. Not only do they offer catering off-site, they also have banquet rooms available at their Baytown location (accommodating up to 150 people), their League City location (accommodating up to 80 people) and their Friendswood location (accommodating up to 60 people). “We strive to make every event memorable,” said Director of operations Roberto Herrera. “our amazing catering staff will work within any budget and create the perfect menu customized for any occasion. We have a variety of items on our catering menu, but we can prepare just about anything the client desires.”

This holiday season will shine bright with something for everyone at Space Center Houston. Experience an all-new holiday lights display, an interactive fall exhibit and the newly restored Apollo Mission Control. “We invite guests to join us when Space Center Houston transforms for the holidays with galaxy Lights illuminating our center and Rocket Park,” said William T. Harris, president and CEo for the nonprofit. “Enjoy the music and space-themed light displays adorning the center. Sip on hot cocoa under the stars at Independence Plaza. Experience hands-on Explorer Camps and learn about what NASA is doing now to get to the Moon and Mars.”
guests can explore an array of mission objectives this holiday season with Texas’s most technologically advanced light display, galaxy Lights, presented by Reliant. Explore interactive and programmable light displays, take a tram ride through twinkling holiday displays at Rocket Park and discover Instagram-worthy photo ops at Independence Plaza from Nov. 16 to Jan. 5. The center will host an adults-only night with holiday-themed adult beverages on Dec. 5; a galaxy Lights overnight on Dec. 7, where families will camp at Space Center Houston and be surrounded by some of the rarest space artifacts in the world. As a Certified Autism Center, the center will also provide a sensory-friendly version of galaxy Lights on Dec. 9 with reduced noise and modified lighting.
Enter a portal to an immersive new fall exhibit, Playing with Light, designed and developed by Scitech and produced by Imagine Exhibitions. The exhibit explores light through engaging experiments, hands-on activities and interactive light displays. The nonprofit presents Playing with Light Nov. 2 through Jan. 1.
Delve into robots and rocketry supporting future space exploration. Space Center Houston’s fall and winter Explorer Camps drives curiosity for young explorers, children ages 411, to experience the wonders of space and science. Campers spend a day discovering the world of robotics, engineering, planetary science, and more on select dates in october, November, and December.
Space Center Houston guests can see the newly restored Apollo Mission Control room as part of the center’s NASA Tram Tours and Level 9 vIP Tours. The restoration of the National Historic Landmark was completed this summer and allows guests to see Mission Control as it was when humans first landed on the Moon. A free timed ticket is required to

Community launches the Chris Reed Foundation benefitting area students Nearly one hundred members of the Bay Area Houston community gathered for the Founding Members reception of the Chris Reed Foundation. Held last Thursday at the Kemah home of Carl and Colene Joiner, the celebration commenced with a toast by the board of directors to kick-off the not-for-profit organization, while also paying tribute to Chris Reed, the man honored by the new foundation. “The Chris Reed Foundation was established as a means to bolster teen success through monetary assistance and mentorship,” stated Carl Joiner, board member and host of the evening’s event. “We seek to support juniors and seniors as they prepare for graduation, college or vocational programs.”
The Foundation was designed to continue Chris Reed’s dedication to the area’s youth. Reed, who was a police chief, city manager, and law enforcement officer in municipalities around Clear Lake, was an avid supporter of education. “My father dedicated his life to serving others, but his most cherished service was standing up for children and pushing the importance of education, regardless of a child’s background,” said Logan Reed, daughter and vice chair of the Chris Reed Foundation. “Whether serving on the CCISD school board, coaching wrestling or volunteering on education committees, he was always helping kids.” Aligned with Reed’s coaching mantra of good sportsmanship and discipline, The Foundation’s slogan, “From Adversity to Achievement” focuses on high school students, particularly those with lower socioeconomic status, and provides resources to enhance future scholastic and professional success. “Funds support a variety of needs, including graduation expenses, entrance exam fees, college application fees and support for books, computers and school supplies,” added Joiner.

While the Founding Members event was the first formal fundraising activity for The Foundation, student’s from CCISD’s Bauerschlag Elementary previously collected nearly $1,500 through a coin drive. These funds, as well as the $25,000 raised at the kick-off event, will soon be made available through application submittal on school district systems such as Naviance. “My father would have been proud to see so many join forces in support of a cause near and dear to his heart,” concluded Logan.
