Air Methods Corporation announces agreement to acquire OF Air Holdings Corporation, parent company of Omniflight Helicopters, Inc. DENVER, CO, June 2, 2011 – Air Methods Corporation (Nasdaq: AIRM), the largest air medical transportation company in the world, announced today that it has entered into a definitive merger agreement (the Agreement) to acquire OF Air Holdings Corporation and its subsidiaries, including Omniflight Helicopters, Inc. (together, Omniflight). Omniflight provides air medical transport services throughout the United States and provides these services under both the community-based and hospital-based service delivery models, utilizing a fleet of approximately 100 helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. Jerry Trimble Helicopters first annual touchdown auto contest a success! McMinnville, OR June 27, 2011: Jerry Trimble Helicopters (JTH) held their first annual touchdown autorotation competition at the McMinnville airport on June 26, 2011. Twelve helicopter pilots competed in the event with Mark Stott, a JTH flight instructor, taking first place. Adam Goad, also a JTH flight instructor, took a close second with Shannon Glenn of Apex Helicopters taking third. Scoring was based on technique, accuracy and slide distance. Trimble flew with all pilots unless they provided their own helicopter. The judges for the event were Mike Moffett, Life Flight pilot for Air Methods, Michael Wilson, Vice-President of Evergreen Helicopters and Klara Rizell, helicopter pilot from Sweden. “We were very pleased with the turnout and caliber of pilots that competed. Mark did a great job and we’re very proud of him”, Jerry Trimble said. Mark Stott did all of his training

at JTH and is now working for JTH as a flight instructor, hoping to get a job in Alaska next season. The number of airplanes and cars that came to the event far surpassed years past. There were 92 classic cars and many unique aircraft were on display as well. The Coast Guard flew the HH65

Dolphin from North Bend, OR, finishing off the day with a SAR demonstration. Jerry Trimble Helicopters gave $10 helicopter rides, with the Lions Club serving up pancakes as a fund raiser for their charity programs. Thanks to all those who came out to support the helicopter industry.

Methods. The Agreement has been unanimously approved by the boards of directors of both companies. The transaction is contingent upon clearance under the Hart-Scott Rodino Anti-Trust Improvements Act and certain other closing conditions. The transaction is expected to close in July 2011. Omniflight generated unaudited consolidated revenue of $172 million for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2011. The Company expects to fund the purchase price through a new commercial bank credit facility. American Eurocopter delivers the 12th AS350 B2 to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Grand Prairie, TX – American Eurocopter announced that it has delivered the 12th AS350 B2 to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. This completes the order of 12 AS350 B2 helicopters that were purchased in August 2010 as part of an upgrade program for the department’s Aero Bureau fleet. “American Eurocopter has a culture that is committed to meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers and to delivering on time. The Aero Bureau’s choice to upgrade their patrol fleet with the AS350 B2 shows their confidence in the performance of our aircraft and our company,” stated Marc Paganini, President and CEO of American Eurocopter. “We look forward to continuing to support their helicopters as they continue to serve the citizens of Los Angeles County.” The final delivery was celebrated with an event at American Eurocopter’s Delivery Center in Grand Prairie. Captain Louis Duran and other members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Aero Bureau participated. “When we chose the AS350 B2 helicopters for our fleet replacement program, we knew the aircraft could meet and exceed our department’s needs,” explained Duran. “With this 12th delivery, we know that we have

the best aircraft for our expanding mission profile and that we can count on American Eurocopter to support these aircraft.” The AS350 family of helicopters has become the standard in airborne law enforcement. It is a reliable, high performance platform that, in addition to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, is in service with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Los Angeles Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, California Highway Patrol and many other federal, state and local agencies. This delivery marks the 194th AStar helicopter in the U.S. airborne law enforcement force. “The LASD has a proven track record with the B2 and when these aircraft are completed, they will represent the most modern AS350 B2 law enforcement fleet in the world,” explained Ed Van Winkle, American Eurocopter’s Law Enforcement Market Manager. “This delivery really highlights the market dominance of the AS350 family of helicopters and the platform’s flexibility for law enforcement integration.” The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Aero Bureau is recognized worldwide as a leader in tactical law enforcement aviation services. The Aero Bureau provides vital support to all law enforcement missions as a true force-multiplier. Its patrol fleet

utilizes advanced technology systems that include Forward Looking Infrared Radar (F.L.I.R.), multi-band digital radio systems, Global Positioning Mapping System, and Down-Link video feed so air crews can provide real-time proactive support to law enforcement personnel and Command Operation Centers. The Aero Bureau also has a search and rescue program called Air 5. This program provides some of the most advanced technical rescue and paramedic response capabilities available in the nation and can also rapidly deploy Tactical Response Forces during major incidents. United Rotorcraft Solutions completes Bell 407 for Aero Tech dECATUR, tx—United Rotorcraft Solutions (URS) delivered a completed Bell 407 to Aero Tech recently. During a 56 day completion, URS customized Aero Tech’s 407 with avionics and communications equipment, specialized airframe options and exterior paint. The avionics and communications equipment installed consisted of the Garmin G500H cockpit display system, GNC-420W Comm, the GDL6A satellite weather and GTX330 transponder, Shadin Mini Fuel Flow, Precise Flight pulse light system along with the Honeywell KY196A VHF. Also installed was the NAT audio control, the Sky Connect AFF System, Forest Service required Aux FM radio, Artex 406MHz ELT, Bose Series 20A headsets and the Technisonic TDFM136. URS fabricated a new instrument panel for this equipment installation. Some of the specific airframe equipment installed included the

American Eurocopter delivers first WAAS EC135 to Paradigm Helicopters PARIS – American Eurocopter announced the delivery of the first Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS)-capable EC135 in the United States. The aircraft was delivered to Paradigm Helicopters and will be put into operation in the Houston, Texas area. “This delivery highlights the dedication of our employees and our company to providing our customers with the most advanced technology to meet their demanding mission requirements,” said Marc Paganini, President and CEO of American Eurocopter. “We are proud of this achievement and to once again work with an innovative, multi-mission customer like Paradigm Helicopters.” Paradigm Helicopters was founded in 2006, and it operates out of Ellington Field on the south side of Houston, Texas. The company is a true multi-mission

operator and provides a variety of services for the Houston area including charters, tours, external load operations, NVG operations, survey flights and pipeline/powerline patrols. The company has great access to the Gulf of Mexico, as well as many of the surrounding communities, and also flies offshore missions and lightering operations. American Eurocopter ships first EC155 for University of Michigan’s Survival Flight program PARIS – American Eurocopter announced that it has shipped the first EC155 bound for the University of Michigan’s Survival Flight program to Metro Aviation, the air medical service provider and helicopter completions specialist based in Shreveport, LA, for completion. This aircraft is the first of three EC155s to be delivered this year. It is currently scheduled to be completed this October, after which it will be put into service at U-M and will be the first EMS-configured EC155 in service in the United States. “The University of Michigan’s Survival Flight is a very impressive program,” said Marc Paganini, President and CEO of American Eurocopter. “Their commitment to providing the best possible care to their patients is reflected in their selection of the EC155 as the future of their program. This aircraft will provide them with the size, exceptional performance and the latest technologies to meet their HEMS and critical care missions.” The EC155 has been proven throughout the world in HEMS missions, but Survival Flight will be the first HEMS operator in the United States to fly the EC155. Survival Flight chose Metro Aviation to complete their EC155’s, which will include state-of-the-art medical interiors and unique University of Michigan paint schemes. “We are very excited to receive this aircraft and look forward to its completion,” stated Denise Landis, Survival Flight Critical Care Manager. “This has been a long process, but it has been rewarding. We believe that the EC155 is the helicopter that will provide our patients with the best possible service and will expand with us as we bring our program into the future.” The EC155 is a multi-purpose helicopter that provides the latest technological and safety innovations including a four-axis autopilot, glass cockpit with integrated flight and display system, and the fiveblade Spheriflex main rotor. The aircraft delivers decreased vibration levels at very high cruise speeds, which provides a very smooth flight for patients and crew, and

it is the first aircraft in the world certified with a rotor design in accordance with the new FAR/JAR 29 regulations. For more than 25 years, the UMHS Survival Flight program has safely transported critically ill and injured patients of all ages from hospitals and accident sites across the state to the U-M Health System for specialized care, aided in rescue operations and transported harvest teams for organ donations. U-M Survival Flight provides services to the 48 continental states plus Canada and Mexico, to transport critically ill or injured patients. In addition, Survival Flight supports the University of Michigan Transplant Center’s organ procurement team in its efforts to provide over 400 lifesaving transplants each year. ntsb reports NTSB Identification: *ERA11LA278* Date: May 03, 2011 Location: Camden, SC Aircraft: AEROSPATIALE AS350B2, Injuries: 2 Uninjured. On May 3, 2011 an Aerospatiale AS350B2 was substantially damaged while maneuvering at Woodward Field, Camden, South Carolina. The two certificated airline transport pilots were not injured. According to a FAA inspector, the helicopter was being utilized for night vision goggle training. Two training flights were conducted between 2130 on May 2, and 0355 on May 3, 2011. According to the instructor pilot, both training flights comprised of similar maneuvers and profiles, which included rapid decelerations, standard

autorotations, hovering autorotations, autorotations with turns, sloping ground landings, and simulated hydraulic failures. The instructor pilot stated that the helicopter was inspected prior to the second training flight, which began about 0130, and no discrepancies were noted. He further stated: “At no time during both training flights did any maneuver feel nor indicate either a heavy landing, or contact between the tailfin stinger and the ground. No abnormal vibrations were experienced throughout the evening training events” Subsequent inspection of the helicopter by an FAA inspector and a company mechanic revealed that the tail boom was buckled about 42-inches in front of the horizontal stabilizer. In addition, the tail rotor gearbox input seal was

excessively leaking oil, and the tailfin stinger contained fresh ground contact marks. The mechanic noted that no damage was present during an inspection he performed about 1900 on May 2, 2011. NTSB Identification: *CEN11LA318* Date: May 03, 2011 Location: Yancey, TX Aircraft: Robinson Helicopter R22 BETA Injuries: 2 Uninjured. On May 3, 2011, a Robinson R22 Beta II collided with terrain following low rotor rpm near Yancey, Texas. Substantial damage with sustained to the fuselage and tail boom sections. The commercial pilot and passenger were not injured. According to initial statements, the pilot and passenger were flying a aerial observation flight to locate feral pigs. While maneuvering at 4 to 5 feet above a wheat field, a pig was observed by the passenger. The pilot turned the helicopter to the left to maneuver towards the pig when the pilot noticed a change in the engine sound. The pilot reported that the helicopter’s low rotor rpm horn sounded followed by the helicopter descending to the ground. The helicopter collided with the ground and rolled on to its side. The pilot and passenger exited the helicopter. The pilot then noticed leaking fuel and returned to the helicopter to turn the fuel selector off. When he returned to the helicopter, he observed that the fuel selector was found between the on and shutoff position. NTSB Identification: *CEN11CA325* Date: May 08, 2011 Location: Golden, CO Aircraft: Robinson Helicopter Co. R44 II Injuries: 3 Uninjured. The helicopter was following participants in a downhill skateboard race in mountainous terrain. The pilot had just performed a left pedal turn and the helicopter was facing upslope to the mountain. The low rotor warning sounded and the pilot lowered collective and increased throttle. The pilot stated

that the engine did not respond so he continued to lower the collective and looked for a place to land. During the forced landing on the down sloping terrain, the helicopter came to rest on its nose resulting in substantial damage to the main rotor, skid tubes, and tail boom. An examination of the helicopter, engine and systems, conducted by the FAA, revealed no anomalies. The density altitude was calculated to be 10,600 feet. The pilot calculated the in ground effect hover to be 8,500 feet pressure altitude, the out of ground effect hover to be 5,000 feet pressure altitude, and estimated the gross weight to be 2,320 pounds. NTSB Identification: *CEN11WA334* Date: May 11, 2011 Location: Veghel, Netherlands Aircraft: SCHWEIZER 269D Injuries: 1 Uninjured. On May 11, 2011 a Schweizer 269D sustained substantial damage when the helicopter crashed and caught fire near Veghel, the Netherlands. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident. The pilot was not injured. The flight originated from the Weert-Budel/Kempen Airport, Weert, Netherlands, and was en route to the Lelystad Airport, Lelystad, Netherlands. NTSB Identification: *CEN11FA337* Date: May 12, 2011 Location: New Athens, IL Aircraft: BELL OH-58C Injuries: 1 Fatal. On May 12, 2011 a Bell OH-58C impacted terrain during an aerial application flight near New Athens, Illinois. The pilot, who was the sole occupant, received fatal injuries. The helicopter sustained substantial damage including separation of the aft tail boom/ tail rotor assembly, and crushing of the forward fuselage. The helicopter was being used to spray fungicide on a wheat field. The operator reported that the helicopter pilot would land the helicopter on the

platform of a truck positioned in the farm field. Another employee would then fill the chemical hopper and add fuel as required while the pilot remained in the running helicopter. Once filled, the pilot would then proceed back to the field and continue the spray operation. This process would continue until spraying of the field was complete. According to the operator, the pilot had completed twelve of the cycles and was proceeding back to the field when the accident occurred. The terrain where the accident occurred consisted of rolling hills. The helicopter came to rest on the back side of a hill. At the top of the hill, pieces of nozzles from the spray booms were found. The tail rotor and chemical hopper were separated from the helicopter. NTSB Identification: *WPR11LA220* Date: May 13, 2011 Location: Columbia, CA Aircraft: MD HELICOPTER 369D Injuries: 2 Uninjured. On May 13, 2011 an MD Helicopter (MDHI) 369D made an off airport forced landing near Columbia, California.

The pilot stated that the helicopter was in cruise flight at 12,500 feet msl over mountainous terrain. The engine remained running, but power stopped being transmitted to the main rotor system. The pilot performed an autorotation to an open area. During the landing, the tail rotor sustained damage to both blades as they went through about 1 foot of snow. NTSB Identification: *ERA11LA297* Date: May 13, 2011 Location: Mobile Block 114CC, GM Aircraft: BELL 206-L4 Injuries: 2 Serious,1 Uninjured. On May 13, 2011 a Bell 206L-4 landed hard in the Gulf of Mexico near the Mobile Block 114CC helideck following an in-flight loss of directional control. The helicopter was substantially damaged. The two pilots sustained serious injuries and the passenger was not injured. The flight was originating at the time of the accident. According to the operator, the pilot positioned the helicopter for a westsouthwest departure due to prevailing wind conditions. After clearing the edge of the production platform helideck, the helicopter started a slow yaw to the

right. The pilot added full left pedal; however, this did not stop the rotation. After 360 degrees of rotation, the rotation quickened, the pilot stated that he “didn’t have a tail rotor,” and lowered the collective and rolled the throttle to idle. The pilot deployed the emergency floats, and the helicopter impacted the water slightly nose low and in a right drift. The helicopter rolled over immediately to the right and stayed afloat. The pilot egressed the helicopter through the broken windscreen area, the left seat pilot egressed through the pilot’s open door, and the passenger egressed through the left passenger door. The examination of the engine, tail rotor gearbox, tail rotor drive shaft, main gear box, and main rotor system did not reveal evidence of a pre-existing mechanical malfunction or anomaly. NTSB Identification: *CEN11LA339* Date: May 16, 2011 Location: Victoria, TX Aircraft: MD HELICOPTER 369 Injuries: 4 Uninjured. On May 16, 2011 a MD Helicopters 369E was substantially damaged during a forced landing near Victoria,

Texas. The commercial pilot and three passengers were not injured. According to a statement provided by the pilot, after refueling at Victoria, Texas, the helicopter departed for Houston. Approximately five minutes into the flight the pilot observed the engine out caution light and received an audible alarm. The pilot then saw the automatic re-ignition light illuminate. The engine appeared to be operated at a reduced setting. The pilot elected to perform a run-on landing. Upon touchdown, the helicopter settled into uneven terrain and the tail boom contacted slightly rising terrain. A fuel sample from the fuel truck was tested by the fixed base operator and did not reveal any contaminates. In addition, several aircraft had previously been serviced by the same fuel truck without any problems. NTSB Identification: *CEN11CA351* Date: May 20, 2011 Location: Lansing, IL Aircraft: Robinson Helicopter R22 BETA Injuries: 1 Uninjured. The student pilot reported that it was his first solo helicopter flight. He performed two takeoffs and landings with his instructor on board, and then

the instructor pilot got out of the helicopter. The student pilot took off, flew a normal traffic pattern, and made a successful full stop landing. He taxied off the runway and set the helicopter back down on the taxiway. He lifted off the ground again into a hover and started to taxi to the ramp where the instructor pilot was located. The instructor pilot reported that he observed the student pilot lose control of the helicopter as he was doing a pedal turn to the left. The helicopter did a “massive yaw, pitch, and roll” It hit the ground on its aft skids, bending the aft skid tube. It bounced up, rolled left in a nose high attitude, and the tail rotor struck the ground. The operator reported that there was no mechanical malfunction or failure of the helicopter. NTSB Identification: *ERA11WA308* Date: May 23, 2011 Location: Norte de Santander, Colombia Aircraft: BELL 206L-3 Injuries: 2 Fatal. On May 23, 2011 a Bell 206L-3 was destroyed following a collision with terrain near Norte de Santander, Columbia. The local flight originated in Bogota. The two crewmembers were killed. NTSB Identification: *WPR11FA239* Date: May 27, 2011 Location: Weaverville, CA Aircraft: BRANTLY B-2B Injuries: 1 Fatal. On May 27, 2011 a Brantly B-2B collided with wooded terrain near Weaverville, California. The student pilot was fatally injured, and the helicopter sustained substantial damage. A friend of the pilot arrived at Hayfork Airport about 1320. He noticed that the pilot had just begun to start the helicopter. He called the pilot on the radio, and asked his destination, how much fuel he had onboard, and if he would like a photo taken. The pilot responded that he had 22 gallons of fuel, was going to Weaverville, and that he would like a photograph. He then lifted the helicopter into a hover, and the friend took a photograph. The helicopter then departed to the east. The friend became concerned after the helicopter did not return later in the afternoon. He reported the missing helicopter to the local sheriff’s department, and an Alert Notice (ALNOT) was issued about 1600. The

helicopter was not equipped with an emergency locator transmitter (ELT). Search and rescue teams utilized the pilot’s cell phone signal to perform network-based location analysis, and the helicopter was subsequently located about 1600 on the following day. A witness located within her residence about 4 miles south of Weaverville reported strong gusty winds beginning about midday. She stated that the winds were so strong that she became concerned the noise from her wind chimes may wake up her husband who was resting. She reported that at a time between 1400 and 1430 she heard a loud metallic crunching sound, and assumed a tin roof had collapsed somewhere in the valley. She did not hear any accompanying sounds that she could associate with an engine or helicopter. Her residence was located about 600 feet east, in the same valley as the accident site. The helicopter was located within heavily wooded terrain, on the 45-degree slopping western face of a north-south gulch, about 5 miles southwest of Weaverville Airport. The main wreckage came to rest at an elevation of 2,450 feet above ground level (agl). The area within a 5-mile radius consisted of intersecting crests, ridgelines, and valleys with elevations ranging between 1,800 and 4,400 feet. The immediate area was densely populated with waste-high poison oak, and pine trees ranging between 100 and 120 feet in height. A clearing was located about 300 feet southeast of the main wreckage. The main helicopter structure came to rest in a nose-down attitude at the base of a 120-foot-tall tree. A tree located about 20 feet southwest had been topped at the 60-foot-level. A second 120-foot-tall tree, located about 20 feet west of the main wreckage sustained fresh damage, and had been stripped of bark and limbs on its southern surface between the 60- and 100-foot level. No other tree damage was noted. The debris path, consisting of clear plastic fragments and shards of main rotor blade material, continued about 30 feet beyond the main wreckage on a north heading. All major sections of the helicopter, with the exception of two outboard main rotor blade tips, were located within the immediate vicinity of the accident site. The outboard 3-foot-long sections of the yellow and red main rotor blades were located 150 and 300 feet consecutively, north of the main wreckage.

NTSB Identification: *ERA11TA317* Date: May 27, 2011 Location: Panama City, FL Aircraft: BELL OH-58C Injuries: 2 Minor. On May 27, 2011 a Bell OH-58C was substantially damaged after being hit by hangar debris while hover taxiing in Panama City, Florida. The certificated commercial pilot and the observer incurred minor injuries. According to preliminary information provided by the FAA, the helicopter was temporarily housed in a large hangar, and ground support equipment, including wheel dollies, had been moved to the unit’s new location at a new airport. The helicopter had flown in and out of the hangar on numerous occasions; however, during the accident flight, while attempting to depart from inside the hangar, hangar ceiling tiles dislodged and went through the main rotor system. The pilot lost control and the helicopter impacted the ground. NTSB Identification: *ERA11IA320* Date: May 29, 2011 Location: Redding, CT Aircraft: Robinson R22 Mariner Injuries: 2 Uninjured. On May 29, 2011 a Robinson R22 performed a precautionary landing into a field near Redding, Connecticut. The certificated private pilot and passenger were not injured. The helicopter remained undamaged after the incident. According to the pilot, he was at approximately 2,700 feet over Danbury Municipal Airport (DXR), Danbury, Connecticut, when he heard a slight noise and felt a vibration in the helicopter. He immediately performed a precautionary landing in a driveway located near a residence in Redding, Connecticut. He shut down the engine and exited in order to inspect the helicopter. Upon inspection of the tail rotor section of the helicopter, the pilot discovered that the tail rotor teeter hinge bolt was sheared and exhibited rotational scoring. The bolt has been retained by the Safety Board for further examination. According to an FAA inspector, the most recent annual was completed on May 1, 2011, and the helicopter had accumulated approximately 2,200 total hours in service. The FAA inspector also stated that the most recent maintenance rebuild of the tail rotor section of the helicopter was about five years prior to the accident.

NTSB Identification: *ERA11TA318* Date: May 29, 2011 Location: Ft. Pierce, FL Aircraft: BELL OH-58A Injuries: 1 Minor. On May 29, 2011 a Bell helicopter, OH-58 went out of control and collided with the ground while maneuvering near Fort Pierce, Florida. The certificated airline transport pilot received minor injuries and the helicopter incurred substantial damage. The responding FAA inspector stated that witnesses reported that the helicopter was called to assist in a search for a possible ejected passenger from a vehicle that was involved in a rollover accident near a highway on ramp. The helicopter was about 300 feet above ground level (agl) when it climbed in a southeast direction to about 400 feet agl. As the helicopter was heading back to the north- northwest, it began to spin as the nose went up and down. It continued to spin and finally dropped on its skids in the grass median between the highway and the on ramp. The helicopter incurred substantial damage to its underside, skids, and tail boom, which separated before coming to a complete stop. NTSB Identification: *CEN11FA359* Date: May 29, 2011 Location: Fort Worth, TX Aircraft: EUROCOPTER AS 350 B2 Injuries: 3 Minor. On May 29, 2011 a Eurocopter AS 350 B2 helicopter impacted terrain while on approach to the Fort Worth Alliance Airport (AFW), Fort Worth, Texas. The three occupants; the private rated pilot, flight instructor, and passenger received only minor injuries. The helicopter was substantially damaged during the accident and a post crash fire ensured. In an initial report to the responding FAA inspectors, the pilots stated that they were conducting a training flight when they encountered a tailrotor malfunction. The helicopter impacted the ground in an uncontrolled attitude, right skid first, and came to rest on its right side. The helicopter was recovered for further examination.

World’s fastest helicopter returns to Weston The World’s Fastest Helicopter returns to The Helicopter Museum at Westonsuper-Mare in July, following a four year restoration to its original 1986 World Speed Record configuration by Apprentices at the AgustaWestland factory in Yeovil, Somerset. This August marks the 25th Anniversary of the Lynx helicopter setting up the new record at an average 400.87kmph (249.1mph). Coincidentally 2011 is also the 40th Anniversary of the original WG-13 Lynx first flight. The record-breaking aircraft, identified by its unique registration G-LYNX, was acquired by The Helicopter Museum in 1995 after it had been stripped for spares, following previous modifications and use as an engine testbed. This had required major alterations to the engine bay and surrounding structure. Over the next several years museum volunteers

found and fitted a number of the missing parts but were unable to de-modify the engine bay to install the original RollsRoyce Gem 60 power-plants. In 2007 Apprentices at the Westland factory volunteered to take the project on and G-LYNX, together with a pair of engines and other salvaged components was relocated to Yeovil, where a team worked to original drawings, photographs and anecdotal evidence to put the helicopter back into its streamlined world record configuration. Earlier this year the almost completed restoration was moved into the Westland paint shop for repainting in the gloss World Speed Record colour scheme and since then the Apprentices have been refitting the interior, including the unique 400mph airspeed indicator. Chairman of The Helicopter Museum Trustees, Elfan ap Rees, who witnessed

the breaking of the record on the Somerset Levels in 1986 said “The Yeovil apprentices have done a marvellous restoration, with first class attention to detail and are to be congratulated on their perseverance. Coupled with the fact that it is a British helicopter that has held this official record for the past 25 years, the task now facing the Museum is to ensure that it is displayed in pride of place upon its return”.

G-LYNX is due to be unveiled to the AgustaWestland workforce on 8th July and will return to The Helicopter Museum shortly thereafter. To celebrate the 25th Anniversary there will be special lecture with guest speakers on Saturday 6th August at 19.00 for 19.30, with G-LYNX as a backdrop, explaining how the aircraft set the record and the speed modifications.

AgustaWestland unveils the AW189 helicopter AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, is proud to unveil the AW189, a new generation affordable multipurpose twin-engine 8-tonne class helicopter designed in response to the growing market demand for higher payload, longer range and higher productivity. The AW189 complements the modern range of AgustaWestland commercial helicopters and will be certified in 2013 and enter service in early 2014. The AW189 is being developed to perform a wide range of roles including offshore transport, search and rescue, passenger transport and a variety of parapublic missions. The aerodynamically efficient airframe, rotor system and the innovative rotor blade design will ensure the AW189 delivers low fuel consumption, high cruise speed and an outstanding range capability. These factors will enable the AW189 to achieve low seat mile costs and low fuel burn. The spacious unobstructed cabin is configured with 16 seats as standard. Seating options include a high density 18 seat layout or an ultra

long range 12-seat configuration with a number of forward and backward facing layouts. A mix of seats, mission consoles, dedicated equipment and litters can be installed according to the operational requirement. A modular fuel system, that is quick to fit and remove, ensures the optimum mission specific trade off between passengers and distance can be achieved. Exceptional external visibility and the deployment of the latest in avionics technology make the AW189 the pilot’s choice. The open architecture avionics suite includes a fully digital glass cockpit with four 8” x 10” displays (AMLCD), a 4-axis dual-duplex digital automatic flight control system (DAFCS) and dual Flight Management System (FMS). All contribute to minimising pilot workload during VFR/IFR flight. Single pilot IFR certification is a design objective. The avionics suite is suitable for the NextGen satellite-based IFR navigation (with vertical navigation and precision approaches) and advanced communication and surveillance requirements. The AW189 sets new standards in situational awareness in low visibility flying conditions and has an all weather capability thanks to its Synthetic Vision System, which emulates the surrounding topography, and to the Enhanced Vision System which sees through darkness, smoke, dusk and light fog, further improving operational safety. The AW189 will meet the very latest international regulatory safety requirements (EASA / FAA Part 29, JAR OPS 3 / EU-OPS). Structural crashworthiness has been a priority in the design of the airframe, fuel system and seats. The helicopter main gearbox will have a 30 min ‘dry-run’ capability and Cat. A, PC1 / PC2e performance will allow take-offs and landings with high payloads and superior safety margins. The cockpit design, incorporating the latest in advanced situational awareness technologies, will reduce crew workload and enhance safety. In the event of an emergency landing or ditching, seats are aligned with large push-out windows maximising egress speed. There is an emergency exit window for every two

passengers. Emergency floatation aids enable the AW189 to remain stable in up to sea state 6 conditions, while life rafts are positioned for access directly from the helicopter cabin. A limited number of components are subject to overhaul and retirement. Maintenance operations have been optimised to reduce downtime for flight intensive schedules. The availability of advanced diagnostic tools to continuously monitor the health of systems provides additional safety and reduced aircraft down time. The AW189 will benefit from the extensive and expanding AgustaWestland worldwide support network already serving the offshore oil and gas industry. A comprehensive array of simulator and training devices will progressively be made available to serve the worldwide AW189 customer base. The AW189 is optimized for the long range, deep water missions typical of current and evolving offshore oil and gas support operations, but that are equally relevant to several other missions including long range SAR. The combination of speed and exceptional passenger comfort available in the large cabin also make the AW189 ideal for VIP/corporate and onshore passenger transport operations. The standard auxiliary power unit (APU) allows the cabin and cockpit air conditioning to be operated without the main engines running for additional passenger comfort. A low cost per seat mile together with a long range capability make this helicopter an ideal alternative to more expensive 19-seat helicopters.
