Sustainability Map Project Mapping Sustainability on the UC Berkeley Campus Background The UC Berkeley Sustainability Map has evolved from a Building Sustainability @ Cal class project into a collaborative initiative that was awarded a TGIF grant in 2011. The map aims to gather disaggregated information and data about UC Berkeley’s campus sustainability efforts and compile them into a user-friendly, interactive map that will allow viewers to click on individual features and see both the campus locations and feature description.

Goals In addition to compiling information and data about UC Berkeley’s sustainability efforts, the map is intended to increase access to and knowledge of the numerous ways in which the campus is addressing issues of sustainability. By mapping sustainable features, including bike racks, Hydration stations, composting bins, and LEED Certified buildings, users can learn more about the campus’ holistic approach to sustainability, and hopefully influence them to take advantage and notice of those resources.

Future Development The Sustainability Map is still under development, but we hope to make it even more userfriendly, aesthetically pleasing, and include additional features and information including photos, Internet links that direct users to resources about that feature (i.e. LEED), and updated project statuses. The map is an invaluable central resource that details the campus’ sustainability efforts, displays the university’s diverse commitment to sustainability, and will empower students, faculty, staff, and others to take advantage of these resources and act sustainably. This project is a collaboration between Facilities Services, Building Sustainability @ Cal, Capital Projects, Vestra Consulting, students, and administrators.
