Composting and Native Landscaping at Pike Fraternity House

Goals and Project Overview:

Accomplishments: •

Compost tumbler currently holds hundreds of pounds of material and will soon be harvested to naturally fertilize the yard

Native landscaping is well underway with both transplants and seeds . Majority of the work was focused on soil preparation and establishment of methods

Many plants are doing very well while others will need less but some more water, through the next summer. After that, only two pruning rounds / year will be necessary (one fall, one winter), and the occasional watering will be well-received.

Location: 2324 Piedmont (Greek Row, block off campus)

Our planet's life systems are struggling, and it is in large part due to our society's chronic inefficiency in nutrient and energy cycling as well as the demise of native vegetation which holistically harbors the ecological biota. This project aims to: • •

establish productive compost system establish native garden that needs little to no artificial irrigation
