The shocking terrorist attacks in Paris last Friday have prompted a public discussion about security in Sussex. Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne’s meeting with Chief Constable Giles York at her monthly Performance & Accountability Meeting can be watched live online at http://www.sussex-pcc. public-i.tv/core/portal/home The meeting takes place today (Nov 20) between 1-3pm and can also be followed on Twitter using #SusPolScrutiny. Mrs Bourne said: “I joined people around the world in observing the minute’s silence for the victims of the Paris attacks and my thoughts

remain with those affected by these horrific events. “In the UK, the current threat level remains severe and it’s important that the police – and the pubic – continue to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious behaviour or activity immediately. “I will be asking the Chief Constable what impact these kind of events have locally, both in terms of the demand on local policing and in tackling any community tensions. I will also be seeking assurances that the Force is prepared and ready to contribute to any nationally coordinated response should the need arise.

A timeless, midwinter scene in the heart of Sussex scooped Emma Varley from London Road, Pulborough first place in this year’s Sussex Wildlife Trust’s Photo Competition. Emma’s picture won the public vote and a £100 cash prize. Emma describes how she took her winning photograph: “The heavy frost one morning last January promised a lovely sunrise, so I took a detour on my way to work looking for a place to photograph. I got rather lost (and was beginning to worry about being late!) but eventually found somewhere to pull up,

Dark Star secure Horsham site Sussex based Dark Star Brewing Co. has secured 16 East Street in Horsham to create a new venue for the town. The site, which previously traded as 1898 coffee shop, will open in early 2016 after refurbishment. Commenting, James Cuthbertson, director at Dark Star said: “For years people have been asking us if we can open a venue in Horsham, so when this opportunity presented itself, we jumped at it. Having previously traded as The Anchor Tap, we will be reverting to that name and bringing back some of the tradition that comes with the site, investing heavily in creating something beautiful in the town. What we want to create is a venue that provides locals with a great place to go and have a drink and a bite to eat that’s independent, locally owned and operated, using products from local producers.” Adding: “For those people that might be concerned, let’s set the record straight -this isn’t about late night drinking or discounted drink deals – far from it. This is about creating something unique that grown-ups can enjoy and adding something to the street and neighbourhood. Those that know the brewery, know that we operate with integrity and with the community in mind, no more demonstrated than through our Foundation that does a lot of work to support local causes”. Care workers are celebrating their “Oscars” for their dedication across West Sussex. They took centre stage at the West Sussex Care Accolades ceremony. The awards by West Sussex County Council recognise the hard work and dedication of people working in a wide variety of jobs in adult social care including dementia care and caring for people in their own homes. One care worker, Barbara Fletch-

er of Oak Lodge Nursing Home in Burgess Hill, was described as an “inspiration” and won the Unsung Hero Award and was described as an “inspiration”. Peter Catchpole, West Sussex County Council’s cabinet member for adults social care and health, said: “It was a privilege to meet care

workers at the awards. It is really important to recognise great care. I am sure I speak on behalf of the county when I say to all care workers that the role they do is hugely appreciated by all of us.” Chairman of West Sussex Partners in Care Rosemary Pavoni said: “Once again we had a tough job as the standard of entries was so high. Steyning students in the pink with huge cheque for charity

RNIB staff dressed as iconic literary characters People in the Horsham area who are blind or partially sighted are being invited to join RNIB’s Talking Books service. The service which provides 4,000 audio books every single day to people with sight loss, will be entirely free for all blind and partially sighted people. RNIB (Royal National Institute of Blind People), the sight loss charity which runs the service is celebrating the 80th anniversary of Talking Books. The Talking Books service was launched in 1935 to help soldiers who had been blinded in the First World War and were struggling to learn Braille. The National Institute for the Blind (now RNIB) and St Dunstan’s (now Blind Veterans UK)

joined forces to create the Sound Recording Committee which originally recorded Talking Books onto records to be played on gramophones. Today, almost 30,000 blind and partially sighted adults and children across the UK use Talking Books and the RNIB library is the largest of its kind in Europe. Readers can access the audio books on CD or USB or as a digital download. The RNIB Library also offers a range of fiction and non-fiction titles for adults and children in Braille and giant print. Young chefs meet the professionals Two of the best chefs in Horsham had their taste buds exercised in the Rotary Young Chef competition organised by the Rotary Club of Horsham on Wednesday November 11. Seven young students took part in this National event where in the last three years the National winner has been a Horsham student. This annual competition held within the magnificent new facilities at Millais school attracts in excess of 3500 young students throughout the U.K.and Ireland each year. Students had to plan, prepare and cook two helpings of a two course meal within a budget of £10.00. The heat steadily increased in the food technology classrooms where the judges Lewis Hamblet, the executive chef at South Lodge, and Robbie

Pierce, the head chef at the Roffey Park Institute, had to make a decision. Points were awarded against 9 set disciplines and eventually the results were announced. The winner Nathan Aylett from the Warden Park school and sponsored by the Rotary Club of Cuckfield and Lindfield, served up a curried cod lion, with pureed and roasted cauliflower, and pickled mango, followed by a chocolate fondant with whipped cream and raspberries. The runner up Adam Berwick from Tanbridge House School served up a chicken fillet stuffed with spinach and Parma Ham along with couscous, mange tout and baby sweet corn followed by a trio of deserts :- cherry, mango and coconut oatcake; mango cream; mango and orange smoothie.

Both the judges commented on the high standards achieved by all competitors who were 13/14 years of age and added that it all bodes well for the future of their profession and improving standards in the hotel and catering fields. Gordon McConnell from the Rotary Club of Horsham said “This is the 7th year that the Club has run this competition and we have been pleased to have given so many students a chance to show off their culinary skills. The fact that for the last 3 years a Horsham student has won the National final speaks for itself. Congratulations go to their teachers and parents for encouraging them in the first place.” Both Nathan and Adam will compete in the Rotary District semi final, to be held in January 2016.

Santas galore boost hospice funds

More than 350 runners pulled on their Santa suits and hats to take part in St Catherine’s Hospice Santa Run at Horsham Park on Sunday. The festive fundraisers completed a 2km route twice around the park before being rewarded with a well deserved medal and mince pie as they crossed the finish line. The first Santa to cross the finish line was Tristan and also amongst the runners was Paul Morley who

raised a brilliant £300 for the hospice. Michaela Clements, Events Fundraiser at St Catherine’s said: “It was great to see so many Horsham residents don their Santa suits and hats on Sunday and come out in support of their local hospice. It costs St Catherine’s £180,000 to fund our care over the 12 days of Christmas, so everything our runners raise brings us one step closer to that target. We couldn’t provide care free

of charge to local people and their family and friends without the support of our local community, so I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who took part - whether a runner or spectator.” All money raised from the Horsham Santa Run will help St Catherine’s to continue to provide support to local patients and their families. Last year, St Catherine’s received 465 referrals from Horsham resi-

dents and year round, 80 per cent of the care they provide is in the comfort and familiarity of patient’s own homes. This at home care becomes especially important during the festive season. If you missed out on Horsham’s Santa Run but would still like to don a Santa suit, there’s still time with two more runs this Sunday. New Head Chef at Slinfold Golf & Country Club Davey pearson Director - The District Post

Slinfold Golf and Country Club have recently been holding Chef Taster evenings, in order to showcase new head chef, Mark Young. As my wife and I both enjoy our food, we decided to pop along and give it a try. On arriving at the club we entered the main lobby of the bar area. It’s normally arranged for members, meetings and private hire; however, for our evening, it had been transformed into a softly lit restaurant, with candles and a roaring fire - very nice. As this was a chef taster evening, we were totally in Mark’s hands, when it came to the menu. 4 courses were on offer: Asian inspired salmon tartare, beetroot & honeydew melon, slow braised lamb and coconut pannacotta. An interesting mix of style and flavours was promised and duly delivered. I won’t go into each and every dish, but will say that, on taste and presentation, Mark clearly has a passion for food and fine dining. We caught up with Mark after our meal for a chat and were impressed with his humble demeaner. Seemingly unprompted, he circled the room and spoke with the various groups of diners, speaking candidly

about his dishes, travels and experiences, which led him to where he is now. The following interview appears on Slinfold Golf and Country Club’s website. It’s Mark’s first, since joining the club, where he gives us ‘a sneak peek’ into his culinary background, including which famous person he would love to cook for: ‘So where did it all begin? I’ve always enjoyed cooking, I was thirteen when it all started, I worked weekends at the local pub in the kitchen as the Kitchen Porter. That’s when I really found my passion for food and my enjoyment for the kitchen. Mark, can you tell us a little about your previous experience? I started my apprenticeship when I left school at the local pub before leaving to join Tony Tobins restaurant “The Post”. I then went traveling around Australia where I found my passion and style for Thai, Asian infusion. On my return to England I joined a gastro pub and worked my way up from pastry Chef De Parti to Head Chef at one of the company’s other sites. I worked in London temporarily, before joining a golf course, where I did banqueting, golf societies, weddings and other large functions. Before joining Slinfold I was at a two rosette and Michelin guide recommended restaurant, I join as the Sous Chef and then got promoted to Head Chef in July 2014.

What are your favourite ingredients? Salmon, pork, beef and cumin. Anything that’s in season and at its best!! What is your signature dish? At the moment my current signature dish is my trio of pork. My classic dish is parma ham wrapped and mozzarella stuffed chicken breast with a tomato and basil sauce, garlic crushed new potatoes and wilted spinach. As for dessert, that would have to be a warm chocolate fondant with rhubarb and orange compote, vanilla bean ice cream and a dark chocolate sauce. If you were to invite any famous person to Slinfold for dinner, who would they be and what would you cook? Julian Speroni (goalkeeper, football) - I would cook parkin spiced fillet of beef, white chocolate mash and dark chocolate jus.’ Food and Beverage Manager at the club, Matt Tobin, had this to say: “Our new Head Chef has really raised the bar in terms of the quality of our food offering here at the Club. We are receiving incredibly positive feedback from both members and visitors to the Club, especially on our Daily Specials that almost look too delicious to eat!” Slinfold Golf & Country Club is located on the A29 Stane Street, just 5 minutes from Horsham town. The Lounge Bar is open 7 days a week for members and visitors.

When the pub was the hub Pubs were often not just places to drink and eat in the late 1700s and 1800s They were the main meeting place with the exception of church, but they were also often where the running of local government business was done. At Handcross the Red Lion, for example, would be used for council meetings and for the inquest into the Handcross bus tragedy, the worst single road vehicle accident death still in Sussex. And in Cowfold another Red Lion pub in the late 1700 was used for the business of what was then known as the Wyndham half-hundred, a sort of parish. In the 1800s the vestry met there for more than 30 years. By 1863 it was used for parliamentary voting as the New Shoreham constituency was created. In fact,

the pubs is thought to have served the community much earlier, having first been built in the 1650s and later rebuilt. Whatever its structural and cosmetic changes it retained its role as a community hub. Later it was joined in Cowfold by the Hare and Hounds, which began life as James Foice adding to his income by selling beer at his cottage, with the beer shop becoming the Hare and Hounds. Beer has an interesting place in the footnote of the water industry. Until the arrival of reasonably safe drinking water a lot of beer was consumed, much of it home-made and headache-inducing, because it was considered safer. Near Cowfold in the 1800s there was another local pub, the Jolly Farmer but it seems to have gone out of business by 1900. On the social side of villages, ar-

rival of street lighting , albeit in some places, like Cowfold, paraffin-fuelled, made venturing out after dark to visit people a little less daunting. But even today the pub maintains a role for people to meet others. Pubs were not the only places people could enjoy a gossip. Shops, selling all manner of goods, served generations of residents across Horsham district in small villages. One such shop was Sprinks store recalled by one resident as being “Billy Sprinks shop, a wonderful old man with a little grey beard.” More stories on the village scene can be read in the recently launched book “Cowfold The History of a Sussex Village” by Michael Burt and available at local outlets. Masonic motorcyclists’ gift to air ambulance Chief pilot Nick Bramley and First Officer David Milton fromthe Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance receive cheque

Sussex Motorcycling Lodge has presented the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance with a cheque for £1,400. The money was raised at a charity auction organised by lodge members who also presented SERV (Sussex Emergency Rider Volunteers) with the same amount. Mike Alderson, Charity Steward for the Lodge, said: “As motorcyclists we are only too aware of the vital work both organisations do on a daily basis. As Sussex masons we are delighted to be able to support their work helping the people of Sussex.” In 2013, the Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance broke new ground by becoming the first and still the only air ambulance in the country to fly 24 hours a day.

In the same year the charity also introduced blood on board the helicopters so that blood transfusions can be carried out at the scene. Jill Hunt, Communications Director for the air ambulance, said: “We are really grateful to the Sussex Motorcycling Lodge for their very generous support. We work closely with SERV who deliver blood to our bases on a daily basis, so it is fitting that they were presented with a cheque at the same time”. The Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance relies almost entirely on donations to raise the £6.5million a year needed to fund the service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Trinity in Principal, Sally Bromley said: “At Collyer’s we feel it was important to recognise the outstanding work of our excellent partner schools, by rewarding some of our new students for their academic success in year 11. I’m sure the money will be put to good use to help support their education or extra-curricular activities while at Collyer’s”. Collyer’s has been in Horsham

for almost 500 years and currently has approximately 1,700 full-time students. Christ’s Hospital pupil wins National Poetry Competition Swedish, Japanese and Modern Greek are languages not currently taught on the syllabus at Christ’s Hospital, but that did not stop CH pupils taking awards for their skills in translating poetry from these languages. In the annual Stephen Spender Award for Poetry Translation, no fewer than three Christ’s Hospital pupils took prizes in the 18s and under category. In a contest participated in by pupils from some of the top schools in the country, Beatrix, who had begun to teach herself Swedish, “just for fun” took joint first prize for her translation of ‘Allegro’ by Tomas Tranströmer. Alexandra SeizaniDimitriadi, who was just 15 when she entered the competition, was commended for her extraordinary rendition of a section of a long poem by the Greek Nobel laureate Odysseus Elytis, while Year 13 pupil, Euan McGinty, received a similar accolade for his beautifully restrained version of a Japanese poem by Kenji Miyazawa. Head of English at Christ’s Hospital, Stephen Walsh, commented: “This is an extraordinary success for our pupils. To take three from the five top awards in this prestig-

ious national competition, from an entry of nearly two hundred, tells us that Christ’s Hospital is a national leader in this very high-end skill. “The fact that Alex and Beatrix were in Year 10 and Year 11 respectively when the entered the competition, makes this

England hockey player takes gold in European championships with help from Vision Express A Horsham hockey player has thanked Vision Express during National Eye Health Week (September 21-27) for its support, after scooping a European gold medal. Seasoned hockey player Sue Crake (pictured) was part of the England ladies over 55s team, which took the top prize at the recent European Championships in London. Sue, who is from Cowfold and works for a pension company in Croydon, has played the sport for more than 30 years and been a member of the Horsham Hockey Club for 20 years, which is sponsored by Vision Express Horsham her local store. The optical retailer, based at 23 West Street, was already supporting the Club as a shirt sponsor in

a three-year deal. When Sue was called up to represent England, Vision Express stepped in to ensure her Vision was in the best condition to help her perform. Emma Beckford, store manager at Vision Express Horsham, said: “Vision is crucial for any sports player and so we were pleased to have our eye health experts ensure Sue’s sight was taken care of. “As Sue spends a lot of time out in the field, it’s really important for her to also be protected from harmful UV rays. She receives top of the range, complimentary contact lenses that also include a UV barrier, so that she can keep her eye on the ball. “We’re all behind Sue and the entire store team is incredibly proud of what she has achieved.”

Sue added: “I’ve worn contacts for several years, because I find them so convenient. I am so thankful that Vision Express Horsham has backed me by providing me with my lenses. “Lots of people don’t realise how important it is to take care of their eyesight, but is vital for me to keep my vision in good order so that I can carry on doing what I love. I cannot thank Vision Express enough for all their help and backing and I can’t wait to start training for the World Championships in Australia in April 2016.” To reinforce its commitment to eye health, Vision Express had offered a free eye test for everyone from September 21 to the end of October, as part of National Eye Health week 2015.

Horsham business raising funds for Chestnut Tree House

BREAKING NEWS CLINICALLY PROVEN TO HELP REDUCE THE EFFECTS OF TINNUTUS

Staff at Rudridge in Horsham will be raising funds this Christmas on behalf of Arundel based children’s hospice, Chestnut Tree House. During November, the team at the civil engineering and groundwork material specialists, located on Handcross Road, will be running a seasonal fundraising initiative to raise money for the charity’s ‘Get Festive for Chestnut Tree House’ campaign, undertaking a range of different activities, including wearing Santa hats and selling cakes. Chestnut Tree House is the children’s hospice for Sussex, which cares for 300 children and young adults with progressive life-shortening conditions. It currently costs over £3.5 million each year to pro-

vide care services, both at the hospice and in families’ own homes. Terrina Barnes, Corporate Fundraiser at Chestnut Tree House, commented: “We’re delighted that Rudridge has chosen to raise funds on behalf of Chestnut Tree House. Christmas is a very special time at the hospice and we like to make the festivities as memorable as possible for the children and their families.” John Chesson, Branch Manager at Rudridge Horsham, added: “We are always keen to get involved with the local community and are hoping that we will be able to raise as much money as possible, for an amazing charity that supports so many families in Sussex. They do a phenomenal job. We are very proud to be supporting them.”

Atlas Mobility Love Making Lives Easier! Neil and Stephanie at Horsham’s Atlas Mobility shop specialise in demonstrating and supplying a huge range of diverse products giving customers the confidence and independence to continue enjoying life as fully as possible after a set back. Scooters, mobility and bathing aids, Cosyfeet shoes, walking sticks and frames, wheelchairs, strain reducing power-packs, riser recliner chairs – upholstered in a wide choice of fabrics – absorbency products and stair-lifts are among the many items supplied. But that is only half the story; a significant part of the service is providing aids to assist with sporting injuries and help people seeking to recover post surgery. Stephanie says: “Embarking on a new lifestyle because of a change in mobility need not compromise independence and the quality of life. We try to lighten up the darker moments in people’s lives, making the experience as easy as possible.” Witnessing Neil helping a customer interested in a mobility scooter, demonstrated with kindly patience confirmed his priceless ability to handle sensitive personal issues sympathetically, Neil saying: “When everything

goes smoothly and the customer feels comfortable then Steph and I love that – it gives us a big lift, making what we do really worthwhile!” Stephanie adds: “Unlike the internet we don’t just want to sell a product and then move straight on to the next customer – we pride ourselves in giving a complete personal service, including delivery, servicing and repair to keep

people going There are regular customers from a wide catchment area and Atlas Mobility are happy to accept referrals from hospital physiotherapy units and care homes to help with a variety of improvement aids and supports. Customers can be assisted with specialised cutlery, dressing sticks, plug tugs and other simple devices to make life easier. From feedback received it is clear that the caring, encouraging approach is greatly appreciated, one recent customer saying: “You dealt with my potentially disruptive mother better than most healthcare professionals, instilling confidence and knowledge, convincing me that I’d purchased the correct wheelchair.” Expert advice is offered with tact and diplomacy, defusing natural concerns while involving affected parties in the decision making process, Stephanie summing up with: “Our aim is to match what we provide to the capability and personality of the customer and we get a real glow when someone leaves smiling and happy with what we’ve supplied.” Atlas Mobility really does provide a uniquely caring, life enhancing service!

DON’T JUST TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT... We have been using the Resident and Clive G Hancocks subsequently, The District Post for Director advertising since the launch of the paper. Whilst it is difficult to quantify results, I would say that as a free paper, delivered around the whole Horsham District and picked up from selected places in the area, they are friendly to deal with, professional, very helpful with design and swift to print. Deadline is Wednesday for a Friday print and they have NEVER let us down! We use this paper exclusively. Because it is a free paper and the best known for that around the area, the circulation is getting bigger by the week/month and therefore I would recommend highly as THE advertising vehicle to use.

From the author of one of the most well loved books for children, Dear Zoo, and the Producers of The Hawth’s hit Pantomimes, comes a special treat for Christmas. Santa is determined to deliver the most fantastic Christmas present to our little hero, Sarah. But he doesn’t get it right straight away! With the help of his cheeky Elf, he finally settles on something ‘perfect’, just in time for Christmas Eve. All the ingredients of Rod Campbell’s ingeniously simple and charming style, are brought to life on stage, plus a whole lot more: music, laughter, plenty of audience participation and the opportunity to meet Santa himself, after the show! A perfect introduction to theatre, for those aged 2 to 7 years old, this is sure to be one Christmas present children and parents alike will never forget. Magical! The length of the production is ideal, an amazing and magical family treat and a joy to watch.’ Mumsnet Running time: Approx 50 minutes (including meet and greet)

CAROLS BY CANDLELIGHT WITH THE LOCRIAN ENSEMBLE Thursday 17 December 7.30pm Partridge Green Player’s next production ‘Time, Murderer, Please’, by Charles Raymond Dyer, will be staged from November 25 to 28 at Partridge Green Village Hall. Esther Kingswell is directing the comedy thriller, set in a London pub in the late 1950’s. A school secretary has been murdered and when a stranger arrives, having lost his memory, suspicion amongst the pub regulars starts to build. With a host of colourful characters, this intriguing thriller provides some

very funny moments and also keeps the audience in suspense until the end. Experienced players, Mark Fisher and Sue Bennett, deliver many a comical moment, as landlord and formidable wife. Pete Hurrell returns from directing, to play Mike, the mysterious visitor who appears to have lost his memory. There are very promising acting debuts for Esther Mary Matthews, as barmaid Sadie, and for Carole Grinsted, as the cantankerous gran-

nie. Chris Halliwell will be making a welcome return to the stage, after many years as pompous Mr Brooks, and David Tutton lights up the stage as the flamboyant Freddie. Sara Harris, Fay Bishop and Peter Deeming complete the line-up, in what promises to be a production that both amuses and grips the audience in equal measure. Tickets are £8 (£7 Concessions) and are available at The Partridge Pub or Louisa Jayne hairdressers

Charity Gala Screening of James Bond huge success

A dark night at the end of October saw searchlights piercing the skies above Horsham, signalling the Regional Charity Gala Screening of James Bond’s latest film, Spectre, which took place at The Capitol. This charity event was organised by Horsham Rotary LINC (part of the Rotary Club of Horsham) - a new innovative Rotary group, with a dynamic approach to working towards

improving the lives of young people in Horsham. Guests at this black tie evening were given the full red carpet treatment, with a glass of bubbly on arrival and canapés, with bond-esque cocktails, provided by the talented team from The Dead Parrot in Horsham. During the pre-screening reception, all enjoyed a fantastic vocal performance from Hannah May and captivated by magic tricks from

Lee Burridge. In return for a charity donation, there was an opportunity to have a professional Bond photograph taken by Toby Phillips. Just before the film started, Chair of Horsham Rotary LINC, Rebecca Batchelor, took to the stage to carry out the Diamond Draw. Each guest had been given a ticket to win a real diamond (worth over £1000) and many guests had generously purchased additional draw tickets dur-

ing the pre-screening reception. The diamond, in true exciting Bond style, went on to raise an incredible further £900, during an impromptu auction. To the delight of the audience, the latest James Bond offering was packed with gadgets, supercars, stunts, and the best one-liners. Following the film, many guests attended the after party at Wabi, in East Street, which offered a special

Bond inspired cocktail menu. Organisers, Horsham Rotary LINC, ended what was a fabulous charity event, with a few celebratory cocktails! The event raised a spectacular amount, in excess of £2,500, which will be put towards local community projects. The group would like to thank everyone, who attended, for their generosity and for making the event a great success.

Pizza Express is celebrating the launch of its exciting new look restaurant in Horsham. Located in East Street, this restaurant has been totally transformed and features artwork paying tribute to Percy Bysshe Shelley, one of the major Romantic poets, who was born in Horsham. Each PizzaExpress restaurant is individually designed

– often using well known places, people or historical events from the area as the basis. The interior of the Horsham restaurant has a range of collage artworks inspired by Shelley’s poetry and his story. First time buyers lead pack for Oaklands new homes in Horsham

First-time buyers have been leading the pack seeking to snap up one of the new homes in Horsham which recently launched at Oaklands. The leafy development from award-winning housebuilder Linden Homes only opened its doors to the public this month and has already seen an overwhelming interest for the three and fourbedroom homes on offer. Oaklands is a selection of 160 thoughtfully designed properties varying from stylish one and twobedroom apartments to luxurious houses with the choice of two,

three and four bedrooms. Current prices range from £399,995 for a three-bedroom terraced house in the Newton style to £694,000 for the Darwin, a four-bedroom detached house. Thanks to the government’s Help to Buy scheme, which covers homes priced up to £600,000, all the three-bedroom homes could be within reach to customers with deposits as low as five per cent, as well as the four-bedroom Alexander (£599,950). Help to Buy works by combining a government loan of up to 20 per cent with an initial five per cent

deposit, leaving an achievable mortgage of 75 per cent to make up the balance. In the homes at Oaklands, integrated kitchen appliances come as standard and for peace of mind each has a 10-year NHBC warranty and two-year customer care warranty. At the heart of the development a huge oak tree spreads its branches over a green circle of grass. Andrew Reynolds, sales and marketing director at Linden Homes South, said: “Our sales office at Oaklands was busy at the launch and it’s only getting busier as more and more people find out about the quality and location on offer. “Local people who know the area well understand what a good position Oaklands is in. Firsttime buyers – some renting or living with parents – have been particularly enthusiastic to take the opportunity of staying in such a popular part of the country. “Horsham is a lovely market

town with real character, plenty of amenities and well-connected too for work locally and in London, Brighton or Guildford. Oaklands makes the most of its location being just half a mile from the train station and the town’s beautiful high street. “We’re advising buyers to come and visit Oaklands soon to avoid missing out on their first choice. We can help advise with Help to Buy questions too. But don’t leave it too late – competition is hotting up.” From Horsham train station, services reach London Victoria in under an hour. To get away from it all into the countryside residents also have the former hunting grounds of Leechpool and Owlbeech Woods, Warnham Nature Reserve, and the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty all close by. To find out more and to register your interest you can visit www. lindenhomes.co.uk or call 01403 858674.

Chilts and Martlets off to a good start Short Mat Bowls Dave Smith – Sports Editor West Chiltington Short Mat Bowls Club, known as the Chilts, made a strong fight back to achieve a 60-49 away win in their friendly match against Fittleworth. However, when Midhurst travelled to the Chilts’ village hall, the home advantage made it a bit easier to obtain a 61-55 home victory. For their first league game, the

Chilts hosted the newly promoted Forest team from Horsham. Pam Healy, John Brocklebank, Cliff Palmer and Jean Patterson excelled in achieving a 34-11 win contributing to an overall win of 66-21. Claiming a full six point result, the Chilts have made a flying start to the season. The Martlets Short Mat Bowls Club started their defence of the West Sussex County League Div1 with a 6-0 home win over Man-

nings Heath. Chris Blackman, Freddie Kaucher, Jack Rollings and Chris Rolph opened with a count of 6 on the 1st end. Another sizeable count of 5 for the home side on end 6 helped them on their way to a 33-7 victory. On Mat 2, Ken Williams’ visiting rink enjoyed a close first half against The Martlets’ Jim Noton,Barrie Fitch,Malcolm Rollings and Marc Lancaster, but home advantage resulted in a 10 shot victory (21-11).

Boxing Dave Smith – Sports Editor Horsham Boxing Club’s annual show, held last Saturday, once again was a great success with the packed 400 crowd enjoying some top class boxing. Held for the 6th year running at The Holbrook Club, the event included 14 bouts that covered a wide range of age groups and experience. The first bout saw birthday boy Max Cole compete in a skills bout against Brandon Paul from the Waterside Club in Hampshire. As a 10 year old Max and others his age are only allowed to compete in skills bouts that are designed to give the youngsters the experience of stepping into the ring without the dec-

laration of a winner. The show moved onto junior bouts with 13 year old Horsham’s Tom Creasey taking on Olly Blythe from Titchfield in Hampshire. In only his second bout Creasey earned an impressive point’s win, displaying slick footwork and movement. Next up was Horsham’s Harvey Divall who gave his all but lost out on points to the taller Yousif Shah from Bognor. The fifth bout pitched Horsham’s 15 year old Aaron Tarrat against Vincent McCafferty from Stonebridge. The stronger and fitter Tarrat dominated from the first bell stopping McCafferty in the first round. The final junior bout saw Horsham’s 16 year old light heavyweight Marley Bygrove up against Crawley’s Luke Windsor and again

the Horsham boxer looked in far better shape than his opponent. Bygrove put Windsor down near the end of the first round and the Crawley boxer failed to make the count to give Horsham the second first round stoppage win in a row. After the interval Horsham’s Ryan Jones faced Jack Bowers from Bexley in Kent. Jones, competing in his first bout, put in a tremendous effort and was given a unanimous point’s win over a very decent boxer and earning himself the Horsham Trainers Boxer of the Night award. Next in the ring was Horsham’s Leon Lawlor up against Hasan Akhtar from Bognor. After winning a round each the Bognor boxer narrowly took the final round to win on points.

Horsham Club Captain Simon Bayliss was up next against Andrew Farley from Bexley. In a close fought match Farley ended up winning the bout on points in another well matched contest. Another debutant, Jeter Berte, competed next in his first bout for Horsham. Jet started well, taking the fight to his taller opponent, Sam Northcott from Crawley. In the second round, the Horsham boxer sent Northcott to the canvass but the Crawley boxer recovered well as Berte tired visibly. In the final round, Horshams Berte continued to show signs of fatigue and the decision went to Northcott in a very close bout. Closing the show for Horsham was Ben Gumbrell. Returning to the ring after a 6 year absence, Gum-

brell took on Paul Simmons from Earlsfield in London and despite rolling back the years with some crisp one twos Simmons narrowly took the decision on points. Club Secretary and Coach Dan Purchase said “All the coaches at Horsham Boxing Club would like to thank our boxers for the efforts they put in training for this event and throughout the season, the Holbrook Club, other clubs and the people of Horsham for coming out to support. The money raised from the night goes into the up keep of a small amateur gym throughout the year – we look forward to next year” For all the news on Horsham Boxing visit http://www.horshamboxingclub.co.uk.

Horsham Sports Acro gymnasts in top competition Gymnastics Dave Smith – Sports Editor

Horsham’s Women’s Group performing at Stoke finals

Horsham Gymnastic Centre’s Sports Acro squad took ten gymnasts to the prestigious Pat Wade Classic competition held at Fenton Manor, Stoke on Trent, last weekend. Over 225 gymnasts made up from the top clubs in England, Scotland and Wales, as well as visiting squads from Ireland and the USA, took part over two days of very high standard Sports Acro Gymnastics. Horsham is recognised as one of the best gymnastic clubs in the country and its representatives in Stoke from Sports Acro competed extremely well against some of the

best gymnasts around. The Saturday qualifying rounds saw Horsham’s 11-16 yrs Women’s Group, Ella Dronfield, Manami Imada and Alexandra Rogers, finish 12th and the 11-16yrs Women’s Pair, Myla Kettell and Zoe Gaudiano, finish 14th after their two routines; both unfortunately missing out on the finals the following day. Ben Radcliffe and Madeline Kent, competing in the 11-16yrs Mixed Pair competition, and the 12-18yrs Women’s Group of Emily Steere, Zoe Schubert and Natalie O’Hara however overcame strong opposition to qualify for the Sunday finals. With only one routine in the finals keeping the performance error free became paramount but unfor-

tunately mistakes in both routines kept the Horsham contingent out of the medals. They both however finished sixth in their category which given the very high standard of gymnastics, and this being the current Horsham Acro Squads first step into International competition, was a terrific result. Ali Harmer, Head Coach of Acro, said “I was very proud of the gymnasts this weekend; they all performed superbly showing confidence and maturity throughout. We are now looking ahead to this weekend when the Acro Squad will compete at the Regional Championships in Sittingbourne.”

Horsham go fourth after much needed win hockey Martin Read - Sports Reporter

Lauren Keefe hit the only goal of the match

Saturday November 14 – South Clubs’ Women’s Hockey League Division 1 Horsham Ladies 1- 0 Havant Hockey Martin Read - Sports Reporter Prolonged bouts of diagonal rain in funereal gloom often prevented slick hockey but Horsham battled through a goal-less first half and then completely dominated after the break to complete a richly deserved win. Horsham had a goal disallowed in a first session marked by Louisa Denman threading through on long runs. The change of ends revitalised Horsham. Sustained pressure at great pace, featuring probing forays from 15 year old Gee Humphreys in

her second senior game resulted in a battery of short corners. In their first seven games of the season basement Havant had conceded 25 goals, more than any other team in the league, but somehow their defence held firm – until Lauren Keefe finally produced the decisive Horsham goal. Team Manager Jane Denman said: “It was all Horsham in the second half so I don’t know how they kept us out for so long.” A partisan spectator quipped: “That was a great one nil thrashing!” Tomorrow (Saturday November 21) fourth placed Horsham visit Oxford to play the University who sit eighth in the league with just six goals, but whose tight defence has let in only nine.

Saturday November 14 – South League Premier – Division 2 Horsham Men’s 1st XI 3 - 2 Eastbourne After going a goal down Horsham fought back to lead at half time, dominate the second half and run out comfortable winners, the scoreline flattering Eastbourne. Despite previously suffering six straight losses, Eastbourne, anchored to the foot of the table without a point, shocked Horsham by scoring in the opening 30 seconds. But, Horsham clawed their way back into the game, Duncan Howarth equalising. Then Andy Isaacs maintained parity by stretching to save an Eastbourne penalty ahead of a John Burroughs run terminated when he was up-ended without sanction, before Jack Dean put Horsham 2-1 up with a fine strike.

Heavy rain made the pitch slippery but Jack still managed long invasions, one culminating against the woodwork. Sustained pressure

Horsham clawed their way back into the game earned short corners, a Matt Hough conversion securing Horsham’s first win in five weeks, Eastbourne reducing the deficit with the last hit of the game. Horsham Team Manager Al Campbell summed up by telling the District Post: “It was 50/50 for the first 20 minutes and, although Eastbourne are bottom they had a good passing game. But, we defended well and had better penetration.” Tomorrow (Saturday November 21) Horsham, up to fourth, visit Holcombe. The Kent side are ninth in the table with just the one win from seven games, but their defence has conceded only 11 goals, the second lowest in the league.

Green & Whites stay third with a hard fought win

Heathfield overcome battling Borough Saturday November 14 – London 3 South East Heathfield & Waldron 22 - 3 Pulborough Rugby Martin Read - Sports Reporter In a hard fought contest depleted Pulborough scored first and with prolonged gusty showers making for difficult ball handling. Heathfield gradually asserted control, their front row becoming increasingly dominant as they eventually ran out winners by a comfortable margin. Yet, Boro featured more prominently in the opening encounters, dangerous forays causing Heathfield some concerns before Boro converted penalty in the tenth minute for a three point lead. Boro kept pressing hard and had this resulted in further points the outcome might have been different but Heathfield’s defence held firm preventing greater success after a Boro penalty kick just slipped past the posts. Saturday November 14 - London & SE Division 2 Ashford 7 – 22 Horsham Horsham’s good form continued in atrocious conditions with a hard fought win away at Ashford that kept the Green and Whites third in the table. In an error strewn match any passages of fluent handling rugby were at a premium in the driving rain and it was Horsham who exerted the greater control however it was not until the 75th minute that they were able to score their fourth and bonus point try. Horsham head coach Nick Stoker said: “It was a tough day at the office for us in awful conditions. I am however delighted that we came away with our objective of a four try bonus point win.” Horsham dominated territory and possession from the outset as they moved the ball left and right in an effort to seek openings in the resolute Ashford defence. Then after 16 minutes the deadlock was broken when Andy Gray made a strong direct run through the middle before passing to Giles Barber to score. The conversion attempt was missed and

followed by a penalty to give them a 10-3 lead at the break. Second half conditions favoured Heathfield, enabling them to close out the game with two more tries – one maximised - with twenty minutes remaining. Heathfield praised Boro’s energy and commitment, while penalty scorer Frazer OliphantHope told the District Post: “To be honest they weren’t that much better than us but we had 10 changes from last week and missed tackles let us down. We should be back to full strength for the Bromley game – we’ll need to be!” Tomorrow (Saturday November 21) Pulborough entertain second in the league Bromley, who have scored 240 points – more than any other team in the league – with just one defeat from seven starts. Pulborough Team: Blunden, G. Oliphant-Hope, Cabanna, Nicholls, Baldwin, Bullock, Leddra, Chenoweth, Bullock, Kildford, Perry, Burfiend, F. Oliphant-Hope, Scrase, Lee. It was a tough day at the office for us in awful conditions. I am however delighted that we came away with our objective of a four try bonus point win 12-0 lead in to the break. In the second half the game start to get a bit niggly in the difficult conditions as the errors continued. When Horsham’s backs were penalised for offside, Ashford spilled the pass from the quick tap penalty when a try under the posts looked likely. Then on 62 minutes after multiphase play, Watts did well to gather a Johnson pass before stepping in off his wing to go on a weaving run and Horsham take a 17-0 lead fol-

lowing a missed conversion. On 75 minutes and with time running out to score the bonus point try, Horsham were awarded a five yard scrum and Michael Tredgett made no mistake from the base of the scrum and powered over the line. Matt McCabe had taken over the kicking duties from Bell whom had left the field injured but his conversion bounced back off the upright and Horsham led 22-0. There was still time for Ashford to score a well worked consolation try by centre Peter Walsh. Stocker summed up: “We have closed the gap on Sevenoaks and Tunbridge Wells when we were nowhere near our fluid best. We were dominant at the set piece and adapted to the injuries we faced during the game. If I had a criticism it was that we were guilty of playing too much rugby, spinning the ball from too deep and not playing for territory. Although we never looked like losing, Ashford were able to frustrate and slow our ball down and our ambition got the better if us.” Horsham’s next game is away to Sussex rivals Crowborough tomorrow (Saturday November 21). Youth Volunteer of the Year award winner Grace Birkens Triathlon Dave Smith - Sports Editor Grace Birkens, a second year student at Collyer’s college and coach at Horsham Tri Club, has won a regional award from the sport’s governing body. The ‘Youth Volunteer of the Year Award’ was earned in recognition of the effort Grace has put in to her local club and the sport of Triathlon as a whole. At the presentation, attended by national figures in the triathlon sport, Chairman of the South East committee Matt Honey said that “Grace had only just turned 17 when she received her level 1 British Triathlon Federation coaching award, potentially the youngest ever to do so. Since then she has dedicated many an evening and weekend to

developing athletes within Horsham Tri Club. She very quickly became a well-respected coach, passing on experience and knowledge to a range of athletes of all ages with confidence & professionalism. Commended for having the passion to open up the sport to less popular age groups, Grace is an outstanding role model to all ages.” Grace has been coaching with Horsham Tri Club for the last 15 months and was presented her award before a club swim session by HTC’s head coach Chris Keeler. Her name will now be put forward to Triathlon England for the national youth volunteer of the year award where regional winners from all around the country will be judged and an overall winner selected at their national awards ceremony.

YM smash four past sorry Shoreham Photos by Clive Turner

Dan Evans lobs Shoreham Keeper Seb Boss for YM’S fourth goal

Saturday November 14 – SCFL Premier Division Horsham YMCA 4 – 0 Shoreham Football Tom Norris - Football Reporter Horsham YMCA bounced back from last weekend’s disappointing late defeat to Lancing with a comfortable 4-0 win at home to Shoreham last Saturday. Two goals either side of half

time secured an important three points for the hosts, against a much changed Mussels side managed by former YM assistant boss Simon Funnell. Sam Schaaf’s twelfth minute strike crept just inside the post to give the home side an early lead, before Dean Wright doubled their advantage from close range just before the half hour mark. Dave Brown’s low free kick made it 3-0 midway through the second period,

Dean Wright makes it 2-0 for YM

before an exquisite, thirty-yard Dan Evans lob rounded off a worthy win that keeps Peter Buckland’s side in the top six. The YM boss commented: “We enjoyed the game. We enjoyed a lot of possession, but nothing is a gimme in this league and you’ve got to earn it. I think it was a great response. We had a very, very disappointing end to the game last Saturday and so it was all about how we picked up from there this week.

Junior Football Round up Dave Smith – Sports Editor The weather took its toll on last weekend’s junior football fixtures with a number of cancellations. Three Bridges U14 0 – 5 Storrington Vipers U14 Storrington Vipers played away against Three Bridges in the Presidents Cup quarter final. In a thrilling match that was hard fought by both sides Storrington put in an excellent team performance resulting in a resounding 5-0 victory. It was a tough, physical game with Storrington making the most of every chance to win a place in the SemiFinal. Chesworth Rovers U12 3 - 0 Steyning Town U12 Last Saturday saw Chesworth Rovers in Roffey Cup quarter final action hosting a physical Steyning Town. Chesworth struck mid way into the first half when Finlay Ellis chipped the Steyning keeper then followed up his re-bound to start the scoring. Just before the half time whistle Fletch made it 2 - 0 with a great run into the box before he tucked the ball home. In the second half Toby Sheppard smashed a great goal into the top corner after making space for the shot playing a one 2 with Callum. on the wing. The 3 - 0 win earning Chesworth Rovers a place in the semi finals. Brockham Badgers Black U15 1 3 Chesworth Rovers U15 Chesworth Rovers showed great

character to fend off a tenacious Brockham Badgers side and maintain their challenge for the title. The sides were locked in a tight, nervy, goalless first half that saw missed chances at both ends. Both teams gave their all in an entertaining second period played in permanent drizzle with Chesworth taking the lead from a Michael Murray tap-in at the far post. Brockham equalised as Joe Allen volleyed home a corner with 20 minutes left. The match could have gone either way, but Max McAteer’s shot from an angle and Murray’s late penalty secured the points for Chesworth who go top of the table, albeit having played a game more than their nearest challengers. Horsham Sparrows FC Under 12 – Sparrows were two goals down to Roffey Robins within five minutes of the kick-off. They slowly got back into the match and Liam scored from the penalty spot whilst Kane saved one at the other end to keep Sparrows in it. A halftime change in formation meant Sparrows were finally able to take control of the game and goals from Ollie, Hugh and Miguel saw them win by 4 goals to 2. Under 14 – Saturday saw Sparrows take on Horsham Ambassadors in The Plate. Sparrows took an early lead through Alex but were twice caught on the break and then failed to clear their lines allowing Ambassadors to lead 3-1 at half time. Despite dominating pos-

session and hitting the woodwork twice in the second half Sparrows only goal came from Oliver “S” in the last minutes and Ambassadors held on for a 3-2 win. The Man of the Match for Sparrows was Jacob for an impressive performance. Under 15 – In a game played in heavy conditions Sparrows extended their six game unbeaten run with a 5-3 win over Crusaders and progressed to the semi final of the plate in the process. Crusaders took an early lead and from then on the game ebbed and flowed. Rhys and George score a brace each with Harry getting the fifth. Man of the Match was Alex with a faultless game at left back. Under 16 – Sparrows travelled to East Grinstead Meads for their Plate in wet and widy conditions. East Grinstead opened the scoring early but Joel equalised for Sparrows in the thirtieth minute making it 1-1 as the half time whistle blew. Early in the second half Alex had a goal disallowed and East Grinstead responded immediately with their second goal. Alex then scored with a header bringing the scores level again. Ten minutes later East Grinstead took their tally to three, closely followed again by Alex to keep the teams neck and neck at 3-3 at full time. Sparrows clinched the result in extra time as Alex completed his hat-trick from a corner. Final score was 4-3 to Sparrows and Man of the Match was Harry Elnaugh.

Football is good like that, because it gives you the opportunity straight away to make amends. That was one of our better performances. We kept our shape all over the pitch and we scored some good goals. It was satisfying because I said to our two strikers that we need more goals from them in the penalty area and the six yard box in particular, and they both scored. Before the game if someone had said we’d get a 4-0 win and three points, I’d have taken

it. We’ve got a short term target of nine points from the next three games and we’ll worry about after that afterwards.” YM Team: Fox, D. Sullivan, Gathern, Pollard, Evans, Dugdale (c), Hibbert, Donaldson, Wright (Lockwood 87), Brown (Gedling 63), Schaaf (Horner 81) Unused subs: N. Sullivan, Carden.

Castlewood off to good start Junior Netball Castlewood got off to a strong Division C start in the Horsham Primary Schools Netball League last week recording good wins over Jolesfield 4-0 and Greenway 3-1. St Robert Southwell was also a team playing with confidence although their narrower wins over William Penn and Warnham mean they lie in second place in the table by virtue of goal difference. At the bottom end Warnham lost both their encounters but it was

their first competitive outing in netball for some years so they will be the stronger for the experience even if it was not a winning one. Jolesfield also struggled but the fact that their losses were not too severe will give them hope they can improve in future meetings. Greenway and William Penn occupy mid-table positions courtesy of mixed results. William Penn was another new team to the league and Greenway scored the biggest victory of the night with their 8-0 eclipse of Warnham.

Impressive Hornets go top after win at Newhaven Photos by John Lines

Dave Smith - Sports Editor

Saturday November 14 – SCFL Premier Division Newhaven 1 - 3 Horsham Something had to give when the two in-form sides Newhaven and Horsham, sitting top and second in the division respectively, clashed at Newhaven’s Trafalgar Ground last weekend. In a match played in terrible conditions Horsham came out winners, replacing their hosts at the top of the league in the process. This was a good performance by the Hornets and a deserved well earned win but the main taking point of the match

centred on a double sending off for Newhaven midway through the second half with Horsham leading 1-2. The home side will no doubt blame the defeat - or at least the chance of a draw - on having only nine players on the pitch for the last ten minutes but although the first red card was extremely harsh Horsham looked the better side throughout and always the more likely of the teams to score. From the start Dodd and Pamment caused problems for home ‘keeper Jake Buss and his defence with both players having a number of good efforts on goal that could so easily have given Horsham an early lead. It was all Horsham as far as attacking play was concerned with the first effort on goal for Newhaven taking 35 long minutes when midfielder Joe Dryer saw his long range shot tipped over by Gareth Williams.

Ashley Jones celebrates his goal

The match then sprang to goal scoring life in the final 5 minutes of the half when Horsham’s opening goal was quickly equalised by the hosts. A Bradley Lewis through ball was collected by the lively Hornets front man Terry Dodd who slammed his shot passed the helpless Buss in goal. Four minutes later, and somewhat fortuitously, Newhaven were level when Horsham ‘keeper Williams punched away a corner only for the ball to hit the back of Newhaven’s Ryan Knight and bounce back into the net. It took only five minutes of the second half for Horsham to regain the lead and again Dodd was involved. The Horsham striker held the ball up well before finding Ashley Jones whose low cross come shot found the net from a tight angle. Horsham lost Darren Boswell to a heavy challenge, Jake

Chadwick coming on as a replacement, as Newhaven started to look more threatening without ever really testing Williams. Alex Duncan was however forced into a goal saving header off the line to stop Craig Bunga’s effort producing another equaliser but shortly after referee Parfitt made his controversial contribution to the game. Newhaven’s Scott Edwards and Horsham captain Joe Shelley challenged for a ball that both were entitled to go for but the referee somehow deemed Edwards so badly at fault he produced a straight red card to the amazement of all in the ground and on the pitch. The decision incensed the Newhaven players and bench and after 30 seconds of mass protesting from the Newhaven contingent the referee again pulled out a straight red, this time in punishment for something said to him by Adam

Heath grab much needed three points Saturday November 14 – SCFL Premier Division Broadbridge Heath 2 - 0 Worthing United Football Dave Smith - Sports Edito Played in atrocious conditions this match earned three vital points for Heath - their first league win for seven weeks – but battling Worthing made them work extremely hard for the reward. If two very early efforts had gone in, an acrobatic overhead kick from Andrade and a Stuart Chester header, then things might have been a lot more comfortable for the hosts. After the early scare Worthing gave

as good as they got as the match developed into an even end to end encounter. Heath ‘keeper Michael Chester had to twice be alert to stop goal bound attempts and at the other end Worthing keeper Matt Evans saved well from the lively Andrade. Evans however could do nothing minutes later when Ollie Moore’s 30 yard thunderbolt flew past the visiting ‘keeper to put Heath one up. Six minutes later Moore doubled his personal and his team’s goal tally when he ran onto Andrade’s through ball to score despite Worthing keeper Evans getting a hand to the ball. The game suffered in the second half as the driving rain and waterlogged playing surface prevented any worthwhile football. The visi-

tors, with the wind behind them, put pressure on Heath to try and get back into the game but the excellent Andy Howard marshalled his defence superbly and the game ended with a victory to Heath through Moore’s two first half goals. Tomorrow (Saturday November 21) Heath travel to the divisions whipping boys St Francis Rangers who do not have any points from their 14 games so far, scoring only 1 goal and conceding 85 in the process. Heath team: M.Chester, Robinson, Godfrey, S. Chester, Howard, Moore Waddingham, McDermott (Flack 75), Andrade (Ozga 80), Martin, Weller.

Ollie Moore scored twice for Heath

Kneeler. Now playing against nine men Horsham went to put the game safe but the normally clinical Terry Dodd missed a good chance to do so after hitting a weak effort straight at Buss. However the match was wrapped up a minute into stoppage time with a goal from Kieron Pamment after some good play by the impressive Dodd. New league leaders Horsham face Eastbourne United AFC tomorrow (Saturday November 21) at Gorings Mead. Eastbourne are currently in ninth place. Horsham Team: Williams, Duncan, Knee, Jones, Storrie, Pamment, Lewis, Shelley, Boswell (Chadwick 53) Crabb, Dodd. Unused subs: Keehan, Jarman, Farmer.
