In 1577, the foundation stone of the Golden Temple at Amritsar was laid on Diwali. In 1619, the sixth Sikh Guru Hargobind, who was held by the Mughal Emperor Jahengir, was released from the Gwalior fort along with 52 kings.

In Portugal, Father Christmas leaves gifts under the tree or in shoes by the fireplace. The special dinner is usually salted cod fish with boiled potatoes and is eaten at midnight on Christmas Eve.

In North America, the Santa we know today is a grandfatherly man with a round belly, a bushy white beard and a red and white suit. Santa used to wear a lot of different colored suits but Coca-Cola popularized the red outfit that he wears today. Salmon Salmon is rich in protein and vitamin D. Both are essential to strong hair. The omega-3 fatty acids found in this tasty cold-water fish are the real hero. Your body can’t make those fatty acids, which your body needs to grow hair. About 3% of the hair shaft is make up of these fatty acids. Omega-3s are also found in cell membranes in the skin of our scalp, and in the natural oils that keep your scalp and hair hydrated. Other options: If salmon doesn’t excite you, you can also get essential fatty acids from fish like herring, sardines, trout, and mackerel, as well as avocado, pumpkin seeds, and walnuts

Walnuts These are the only type of nut that have a significant amount of omega-3 fatty acids. They’re also rich in biotin and vitamin E, which helps protect your cells from DNA damage. . n behalf of Progressive Intercultural Community Services (PICS) Society, I’m pleased to say mark your calendars on October 2nd, to join us at our Radiothon on Radio India, to raise funds for our newest project, Multicultural Long-Term Care Home. We’ve recognized the increasing population of aging seniors who need specialized care. There are over 150 seniors who are scattered through the province living in isolated environments, and they’re resorting to local hospitals, occupying emergency rooms, which can be inconvenient for new patients. This is why we’re addressing this need by building this 125 bed longterm facility. This program will be culturally sensitive and staffed with bilingual caretakers who can provide adequate care for the seniors. We plan to honour their culturally chosen foods as well as traditions and religious customs. This is the time to respect our elder generations and honour them for providing them with the care they need now. At PICS Society, we’re proud to have been chosen by the BC Housing Commission and the South Fraser Health Region to develop a seniors housing and care facility within the South Asian community. We completed the project efficiently and the result is our 77 Unit

Independent Living Facility and 49 Unit Assisted Living Facility are now occupied with seniors of all ethnic and South Asian cultural backgrounds. We’re confident that with our experience and with the support of the community, we’ll develop this much needed facility that all other communities across Canada will follow suit. As you all know, purchasing land in Surrey is costly, especially ones that are properly zoned appropriate for seniors housing. The minimum cost is around $2 million per acre, and we need 2 acres of land to build this 125bed long-term facility. The total cost of this project will be $25-$30 million.
