Editor Joe Stroffolino Interfaith. The definition: relating to or between different religions or members of different religions. Yes in this world of religious, cultural and social strife there is Interfaith Health & Support Services of Southern Ocean County. Interfaith is a coalition of different faith communities, social service, and health care organizations. They provide volunteer physical, emotional and spiritual support to those living at home who are vulnerable because of age or disability. More than likely an organization most never knew existed. To further explain I think their mission statement helps: We seek to put God’s love into action by promoting wellness, independence, and alleviation of loneliness and suffering to our vulnerable in need. My hope in writing this is to spread the good news about this Southern Ocean County Gem. What exactly does Interfaith do? Here is a list of some programs Interfaith provides. Parish Nursing Historically, Parish Nursing is a congregational health ministry shaped by Christ’s concern for all aspects of the human condition and directed to the service of the whole person. The Alzheimer’s caregiver is often called the hidden, or second, victim of this disease. The Alzheimer’s Respite Program offers caregivers of individuals with AD or related dementia time away from the responsibilities of caregiving and relief from the physical and emotional stress of being a caregiver. In addition, individuals with AD look forward to the visits with a new friend. The focus of this program is to develop and train volunteers to provide this much needed support. Volunteers will be paired with families with a loved one affected by mild to moderate AD. A volunteer will spend time with the individual with dementia, while the family caregiver gets out. This may be in the form of companionship, transportation, or just a few hours away. Since volunteers are not medically trained, they are not able to perform “hands-on” or medical services. Respite visits are a free service and typically take place on a weekly basis, usually lasting anywhere from 2-4 hours per visit, depending upon the needs of the family please see page 6 Corporate Sponsors: The Van Dyk Group Southern Ocean Rotary BSR Physical Therapy Medical Staff of Southern Ocean Medical Center Causeway Family of Dealerships Our Supporters and Partners: Ocean Acres Civic Association The Ocean County Office of Senior Services The Ocean County Office of Senior Services Title III Program The Ocean County Department of Transportation The OceanFirst Foundation Stafford Township Community Development Block Grant United Way of Ocean County The Banner The Sandpaper Soroptomist International of LBI Greenbriar Oceanaire Women’s Club TRUIST Bank of America Medical Staff of Southern Ocean Medical Center

WHERE WILL MIKE GESICKI LAND IN THE NFL DRAFT? After a stellar combine where he separated himself from other top tier tight ends, Mike Gesicki’s Draft stock has risen

By Joe Ciminera Penn State completely dominated the NFL combine and tight end Mike Gesicki was a huge part of that. The six-foot-five tight end who ran a 4.54 40-yard dash and leaped up 41.5 inches in the vertical jump at the combine, was one of the top tight ends in the country last season. His on field athleticism and ability to make even the most difficult catches look routine caught the eyes of scouts, but his combine numbers caused their eyes to cartoonishly pop out of their heads. There are some faults in his game that scouts have noticed as well. His blocking ability is sup-par. That is his biggest work in progress which would lead one to believe he’d be drafted by a team looking for a pass catching tight end. His hands and athleticism allowed him to come down with balls over defenders in college, but his lateral quickness to separate himself from an NFL defender is a concern. Much like with Saquon Barkley, all Penn State fans realized Gesicki’s potential. His combine performance reaffirmed that, but will it be enough to propel him into the first round? Here are some of the spots I think Gesicki might go. Round 1, Pick 27 – New Orleans Saints Many experts will tell you that Gesicki is a secondround talent. It could be stubbornness, or a neglect to consider his combine. More than likely though, Gesicki is a first-round talent for the reasons mentioned in the previous slide. As stated, Gesicki’s blocking ability can be overlooked if he catches the right team’s eye. New Orleans may be that team. The Saints will probably bring back tight end Jimmy Graham in free agency, but he’s 31. He is still a serviceable player, and the Saints may see an opportunity to groom Gesicki under him. If they don’t sign Graham, they’ll definitely be looking to draft a tight end. It makes sense then that Saints personell have been sniffing around tight ends at the combine. Gesicki’s biggest challenger to be the first tight end selected is South Dakota State’s Dallas Goedert. If he goes before 27, and the Saints really need a tight end, Gesicki could be the man. If they’re not sold on Goedert, they may still take Gesicki at 27, but more realistically, they’d trade back and get him in the second. New Orleans coach Sean Payton is going to want play-makers, and Gesicki is that. We’ll find out just how impressed he and GM Mickey Loomis are with Gesicki soon enough. Round 1, Pick 32 – Philadelphia Eagles I will shoot you straight, I’m an Eagles fan. Wait, I’ll correct that, I’m a SUPER BOWL CHAMPION Philadelphia Eagles fan. Other than a shiny trophy, the reward for winning the big one is the last pick in the draft. The Eagles aren’t in the worst spot because there will be offensive linemen on the board when they pick, which is a need. They will have their pick of about four or five o-lineman at 32 and they may just grab one. I want them to take Gesicki so badly though. Trey Burton almost certainly on his way out of Philly

SPORTS BEAT Boys Basketball

Congratulations Southern Regional Boys Basketball Alum Peyton Wejnert, Class of 2016 (Pace University) on being named “Setter of the Week” for the week of February 18, 2018. Peyton has led Pace with 14.2 points per game this season. Congrats Peyton.

Boys Volleyball

in free agency. Brent Celek won’t be retiring, but I don’t see the Eagles keeping him around any longer as he is not a threat in the passing game. That leaves the Birds with one of the best tight ends in football, Zach Ertz. Pairing Ertz with Gesicki would give defensive coordinators fits and provide Carson Wentz with another weapon. The Eagles front office may be more concerned with protecting Wentz than giving him another target, so this may just be wishful thinking on my part. A boy can dream. Round 2, Pick 52 – Baltimore Ravens The Ravens need help at just about every skill position. With their first pick, 16 overall, look for them to take Calvin Ridley or another wide receiver. At pick 52, they would be thrilled to grab Mike Gesicki. The Ravens and Joe Flacco averaged only 189.4 passing yards per game last season, and when you have a Super Bowl winning quarterback, that just wont fly. The Ravens need to correct this immediately, and by adding weapons throughout the draft they will be able to. If the combine did one thing for Gesicki it showcased his speed. As I said, his lateral quickness isn’t anything to write home about, but he can get straight down field like a gazelle. Flacco would have fun throwing to a big, fast target who can break big plays. If Gesicki is around at 52, the Ravens would be foolish not to take him. Round 2, Pick 58 – Atlanta Falcons Once again, we have a team that is looking for a play maker. The Falcons have some weaknesses on their offensive line which they may address here, but it will be tough to pass on Gesicki. Much like with the Saints and Brees, the Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan likes a big vertical threat. The issue is, the Falcons have a tight end. Austin Hooper will be entering his third season, and he has shown flashes, but ultimately underwhelmed. He had a 128 yard game week one last season, but didn’t break 50 the rest of the year. I think the Falcons might have a decent receiver or something who takes a few targets away, but with Ryan the more weapons the merrier. The Falcons want to light up the scoreboard each week, and Mike Gesicki would be the best player at that spot to help them do so. victorybellrings.com

Toms River teacher runs for those who can’t By Kevin Williams,

The 4K for Cancer program will find the group not only running across the country but handing out scholarships, visiting and delivering care packages to cancer patients receiving treatment and raising awareness through various educational events. Since its inception the Ulman Cancer Fund has raised $15 million with $5 million of that coming directly from the 4K for Cancer program.

Jamie Blondina is a 25-year from Toms River who has been an athlete for most of her life. At Toms River High School South she played soccer and basketball but it was lacrosse in which she truly shined and continued while at Rowan University. Blondina ranked 7th in lacrosse program history in points scored when she graduated in 2015, earned All-Conference and All Region honors and received the Joy Solomon Leadership Award. Not long after that she was hired as a health and physical education teacher at Toms River High School East where she also coaches freshman girl’s lacrosse and soccer and junior varsity basketball. Blondina is busy, especially when add in the training she is doing for a fundraiser this summer in which she and about 30 others will team up to run 4,000 miles from San Francisco to Boston in just 49 days. It’s all for the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults (UCF) which provides support and encouragement to young adults and their loved ones impacted by cancer.

Irish Soda Bread

Blondina has never participated in a long distance run and is going through high intensity interval training for about an hour a day, six days a week. She is basically in a program similar to someone training for a marathon which makes sense when you consider she will run an average of 6 to 16 miles each day during the 49 day trek across the country. As you might imagine there is more than just the running challenge to this. Jamie has a fundraising goal of $7,000. So far she’s raised around $1,700. Donations are tax-deductible. Here’s a link to her fundraising page and the 4K for Cancer website. As she wrote in an email “I run for those that can’t.” www.wobm.com Directions: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper. Combine the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Add the butter and mix on low speed until the butter is mixed into the flour.

Congratulations Southern Regional Wrestling on having an outstanding 2018 NJSIAA Region 8 Tournament. Matt Barnett (132lbs), Nick O’Connell (152lbs) and John Stout (170lbs) won 1st place in their weight classes while five other Rams placed 4th, (Owen Kretschmer, Sebastian Dellagatti, Dan Gorman, Matt Mackanic, Rob Woodcock) and will join the trio at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City for the State Individual Championships this weekend from March 2nd to March 4th. Good Luck Rams! #RamPride

Boys Lacrosse

With a fork, lightly beat the buttermilk, egg, and orange zest together in a measuring cup. With the mixer on low speed, slowly add the buttermilk mixture to the flour mixture. Combine the currants with 1 tablespoon of flour and mix into the dough. It will be very wet.

Ingredients:

4 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for currants 4 tablespoons sugar 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into 1/2-inch dice 1 3/4 cups cold buttermilk, shaken 1 extra-large egg, lightly beaten 1 teaspoon grated orange zest 1 cup dried currants

Dump the dough onto a well-floured board and knead it a few times into a round loaf. Place the loaf on the prepared sheet pan and lightly cut an X into the top of the bread with a serrated knife. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until a cake tester comes out clean. When you tap the loaf, it will have a hollow sound. Cool on a baking rack. Serve warm or at room temperature. 2006, Barefoot Contessa at Home, All Rights Reserved

Congratulations Southern Regional Boys Lacrosse Alum Dylan Jinks on scoring 3 goals in the 2018 season for the Hartford Hawks. Good Luck the rest of the season. #RamPride

Boys Wrestling

By Wallace Moore,

Congratulations #SRHSWrestling Alum Zach Wilhelm on advancing to the semi-finals of the NCAA Division III Nationals in Cleveland, Ohio. Zach placed 4th in the 157 weight class. Zach was named an All American for the 2nd consecutive year for Stevens Institute of Technology #RamPride

Molly recently scored her 1,000th point for Donovan Catholic. After a tough start at 2-3, Donovan Catholic reeled off 18 wins in a row to share the division crown with Manchester (a top-15 team in the state). After an injury to a key member of their starting lineup, Molly shined in the state tournament. In a win over Mount Saint Mary, she scored 22 points, but she saved her best varsity performance for her last game. Needing only 9 points to reach the 1,000 point milestone, Molly quickly hit three 3-pointers. She was not done though. Playing in one of the toughest environments in the state, Molly went on to score 28 points, almost leading Donovan Catholic to an upset victory over top10 Gloucester Catholic.

Freshman Mile

Congratulations Freshman runner Jason Braddock on placing 5th in the freshman mile run at the New Balance National Meet in New York City on Sunday, March 11, 2018.

Good Luck To You!

Good Luck Southern Regional Alum Nick Jinks (Class of 2013) beginning his college coaching career at his alma mater Eastern University in Pennsylvania. He will play a significant role in coaching defense, recruiting, and operations as he pursues a masters degree at Eastern this spring. Good Luck! #RamPride

Riley Collins, also a 1,000 point scorer at Donovan Catholic and now a sophomore at Drew University, was recently named 1st team all-conference. Riley followed up a strong freshman year at Drew in which he was named Rookie of the Year in the Landmark Conference. There was not to be a sophomore slump for Riley this year. Riley improved in all categories this season, and he finished fourth in the conference in scoring. Always known as a sharpshooter since his days at Donovan

Catholic Riley finished in the top 5 in 3-pointers made in the conference, while also playing tremendous defense. He looks to build on two stellar seasons and put himself in the conversation for Landmark Player of the Year next year, as well as lead Drew to a conference title. Terry Collins- their father, mentor, and coach, and one of our veteran salesmen- couldn’t be prouder. The enthusiasm he has for his kids’ efforts on the court is infectious, and the rest of us on the sales floor can’t help but get swept up in their achievements. He has been coaching them for years, infusing their inherited talent with the wisdom and discipline from his years spent balling on the court. When asked if he planned on slowing down now that both of his athletes are moving forward in their college careers, he said, “No way, baby. I’ll be out here dropping buckets ‘til the wheels fall off.”

WINTER 2018

CALIFORNIA SPECIAL RETURNS FOR 2019 MUSTANG,

PLUS ENTHUSIAST UPDATES INCLUDE REV-MATCHING, B&O PLAY AUDIO SYSTEM AND NEW COLORS DEARBORN, Mich., March 12, 2018 – America’s favorite sports car gets even more style and technology for 2019 thanks to the revival of the legendary Mustang GT California Special, new features including rev-matching on 5.0-liter 6-speed manual-equipped models, the first-ever custom-tuned B&O PLAY premium audio system for Mustang, three new vintage-inspired colors and over-the-top stripes. “No doubt, 2019 is an exciting year for Mustang enthusiasts, especially fans of our California Special and BULLITT models,” said Corey Holter, Ford car group marketing manager. “This year further targets hardcore enthusiasts who want even more performance from BULLITT, while new technology – including revmatching on manual transmissionequipped Mustang GT and active valve performance exhaust on the EcoBoost® model – means even more thrills.” California dreaming When Mustang first hit the streets in 1964, owners clubs sprang up around the country, with many regional dealers creating their own personalized pony car designs. One – inspired by the 1967 Shelby GT notchback coupe prototype – came to be called the California Special.

Race Red script California Special badge adorns the trunk lid. At the front, the car follows the blacked-out open grille and picks up the Mustang Performance Pack 1 splitter. The California Special wears unique five-spoke painted machined wheels. Inside are rich black Miko® suedetrimmed seats with embossed GT/CS insignia and contrast red accent stitching, along with custom embroidered GT/CS floor mats. Signature California Special script badging appears on the passengerside dash panel. “Few things are more satisfying than dropping the top on a California Special and taking a drive down the majestic Pacific Coast Highway,” said Mark Conforzi, Ford designer. “This signature design takes its cues from the original California Special, while enhancing the personality of today’s Mustang.” Rev-matching to level the field Mustang GT’s powerful 5.0-liter V8 engine packs 460 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque and tops out at 155 mph.* When that torque gets delivered to the pavement via 6-speed manual and available Performance Package, you better hold on, because that’s where revmatching gives Mustang drivers a leg – or a heel and a toe – up.

That original version featured blacked-out grille, fog lamps and a side Advanced rev-matching helps racing stripe that ended ahead of a new smooth out shifts by first predicting rear fender scoop. Before long, the California Special had Sensational B&O PLAY audio joined the ranks of Shelby, Boss and Mach 1 special-edition Mustangs. Like Ford Mustang, Bang & Olufsen Today, the 2019 California Special is an innovator in both iconic design and for Mustang GT is a visual standout, heart-racing performance across its line featuring a trademark fading stripe that of audio products. CAUSEWAY BIDS FAREWELL TO LOYAL EMPLOYEE

MY THOUGHTS FOLLOWING INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

Tom Seidenfaden’s official start date at Causeway Ford was September 17, 1974. Things were different back then. Average Cost of new house: $34,900.00

Specialist. While I spend time on the sales floor, most of my time is spent calling all of our previous lease customers I help them with questions about their leased vehicle, explaining everything from the mileage they are allowed to general questions about the leasing process. Sometimes I even handle the customer service end. If a customer’s experience is less than satisfactory, my job is to solve the issue they may be having and keep them as part of our Causeway Family.

By Jennifer Maier International Women’s Day was Thursday, March 8. Realize that the old “boys club” motto is just that- old. Women in the car sales industry are few and far between. The realization will come in the form of more happy customers who appreciate relationship-driven service and feel like their voices are being heard. In this social media age, when customers are happy and feel valued they let everyone know, which means a better overall reputation in the community.

Tom Seidenfaden pictured here (with arrow above his head) on his last day of employment at Causeway Ford.

WINTER 2018

To be a professional car salesperson, one of the many skills and talents is to get the customer to open up and talk to you. It is important to find their reasons and true motivations for purchasing a car. If you can’t make them feel comfortable during what many consider to be a very stressful process, then you won’t be able to help them get the car they want.

As I approach three years with The Causeway Family of Dealerships, I find my customers, especially women, are my best customers. I feel I am open and honest and give them an experience that I would want my family and friends to experience when purchasing or leasing a new vehicle. I think customers appreciate that.

Average Income per year: $13,900.00 Average Monthly Rent: $185.00 Cost of a gallon of Gas: 0.42 Average new car: $4,371 A Dozen Eggs: 45 cents

If you or someone you know is in the market for a new or pre-owned vehicle, please feel free to call me anytime, and I can answer all your questions. My office is in the Lincoln and Ford Showroom. If you’d like to stop in to see any of our new models, please come see me. I can help you with Ford, Lincoln, Honda, Nissan and Hyundai, plus tons of used car inventory as well. We are a family owned and operated dealership in Manahawkin since 1969. Here at Causeway, we offer FREE oil changes and filter for the LIFE of your vehicle. Hope to see you soon!

I feel most women are intimidated by the industry because it’s a male dominated field. From day one of my career at Causeway, the management and sales staff have included me in every aspect. In the Ford and Lincoln showroom, we are more family than just co-workers. Not many of us can say we work alongside our best friends each day, and actually love coming to work. My job title is Lease Retention Manager/ Lincoln Brand

Tom was a loyal and one of the longest standing employees in Causeway’s history! We will miss Tom’s quiet, nose to the grindstone work ethic. Tom retired on December 20, 2017. Tom’s tenure was a whopping 43 years, 3 months and 3 days! That’s 15,800 days, or 379,200 Hours! Thank again Tom it was a great ride!

NISSAN TITAN AND TITAN XD NOW AVAILABLE WITH FACTORY-AUTHORIZED SUSPENSION LIFT KIT

“We worked with ICON, a proven name in suspension lift-kit engineering, to develop the first kits to be offered through our Nissan dealer network,” said Billy Hayes, division vice president, LCV and Trucks, Nissan North America, Inc. “They came back to us with a kit that is easy to install, maintains TITAN and TITAN XD’s impressive factory payload and towing capabilities, and allows the trucks to be returned to stock for resale or end-of-lease return.” The ICON suspension lift kit package is available on TITAN and TITAN XD Crew Cab 4x4 models. The kits include adjustable-height coil-over shock absorbers tuned specifically for TITAN and TITAN XD, custom rod end bearings and patent-pending Delta Joints. No cutting or drilling is required. “With the suspension lift kit’s increased wheel travel and damping ability, ride quality should be enhanced both off-road and on,” added Hayes. “TITAN and

2018 Nissan TITAN XD with ICON suspension lift kit installed TITAN XD are the most accessorized models in the entire Nissan lineup and the ICON kits are a great addition.” Every 2018 TITAN and TITAN XD is covered by America’s Best Truck Limited Warranty1, featuring bumper-to-bumper coverage of 5 years/100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Consumers can see their dealer for

RIO DE JANEIRO – For some women, the dream of driving may be blocked by a series of obstacles. Fear of making a mistake, lack of resources and support, or no time when pursuing a career could all prevent someone from getting behind the wheel. RESENDE, Rio de Janeiro (Mar. 8, 2018) – For some women, the dream of driving may be blocked by a series of obstacles. Fear of making a mistake, lack of resources and support, or no time when pursuing a career could all prevent someone from getting behind the wheel. At Nissan’s Industrial Complex in Resende, Brazil, employees Ana Beatriz Correa, Camila Josué, Letícia Menezes and Michele de Souza help produce cars every day – even though they had never driven one.

To honor International Women’s Day, Nissan invited employees at the Resende factory to talk about their dream of driving. A few women were selected for a special driving class with Helena Deyama, a legendary rally driver from Brazil. “I hope to have made a difference in their lives, encouraging them with my story about overcoming prejudices and all the difficulties to fulfil my dream of driving,” said Deyama. “I hope they never forget the responsibility of driving a car and never lose focus on safety. I told them to never underestimate themselves. We are more powerful than we believe.” In addition to meeting Deyama, the women had a practical driving class with an instructor at the Nissan complex. They received a surprise at the end of the class, too. Watch the video below for Nissan’s homage to International Women’s Day.

ON MARCH 27, 1939

MARCH MADNESS WAS BORN

The University of Oregon defeats The Ohio State University 46–33 on this day in 1939 to win the firstever NCAA men’s basketball tournament. The Final Four, as the tournament became known, has grown exponentially in size and popularity since 1939. By 2005, college basketball had become the most popular sporting event among gamblers, after the Super Bowl. The majority of that betting takes place at tournament time, when Las Vegas, the internet and office pools around the country see action from sports enthusiasts and oncea-year gamblers alike. For the first 12 years of the men’s tournament, only eight teams were invited to participate. That number grew steadily until a 65-team tournament format was unveiled in 2001. After a “play-in” game between the 64th and 65th seeds, the tournament breaks into four regions of 16 teams. The winning teams from those regions comprise the Final Four, who meet in that year’s

host city to decide the championship. The NCAA held its first women’s basketball tournament in 1982. The women’s tournament started with 32 teams, expanding to 64 teams before the 1994 season. Today, the women’s format echoes the men’s, with play in four regions culminating in a Final Four held in a single location. The championship is played the day after the men’s, concluding the college basketball season. The most dominant team in women’s tournament history has been the Tennessee Volunteers, who won six championships under renowned coach Pat Summit from 1973 to 2006. The Connecticut Huskies are second, with five championships under coach Geno Auriemma. Past women’s Most Outstanding Player winners include Cheryl Miller of USC, Diana Taurasi of Connecticut and Chamique Holdsclaw of Tennessee; all went on to become stars of the WNBA.

NAVIGATION THROUGH THE STARS: LINCOLN DRIVE MODES SHOWCASE CAPABILITY WITH INTRICATE DETAIL DEARBORN, Mich., Feb. 5, 2018 – They studied snowflakes and star placement, clouds and constellations. Designers at The Lincoln Motor Company researched everything and anything atmospheric to create stunning graphics for the all-new Navigator’s Lincoln drive modes technology. Concurrently, engineers targeted sight, sound, touch and feel through Navigator’s steering, suspension, powertrain and torque delivery to tailor its ride and handling for all weather conditions – ensuring clients experience an effortless, first-class journey. By working together, Lincoln’s design and engineering groups created elegant, intuitive technology that showcases both beauty and capability. Drivers choose their information through six consumer-friendly modes. All are controlled by a knob easily accessed at the center console. Three modes are terrain and weather-related: • Deep conditions, for snow, extremely muddy or sandy environments. • Slippery, for wet or icy conditions. • Slow climb, for steep terrain. The other three are based on the type of ride the driver desires: • Normal, for an effortless, balanced ride. • Conserve, for efficient driving. • Excite, for a responsive, engaging ride. The information shown in the cluster changes depending on what mode the client selects. The most relevant information is always present for the driver. For instance, in normal mode a speedometer is present, while in the conserve setting, the speedometer is combined with fuel economy information. “The beauty of these drive modes is they’re intuitive and easy to use,” said Andrew Kernahan, chief engineer, The Lincoln Motor Company. “You don’t have to know how each drive mode is developed, or adjust suspension settings or powertrain mapping. You just have to turn the

dial, and the behavior of the vehicle is modified to fit the conditions or desired experience.” Designed around the theme “Navigation through the Stars,” each drive mode is showcased through intricately detailed graphics while communicating capability. The graphics are displayed only briefly on the cluster so as not to distract, but to assure clients the mode is adjusted correctly. “As a reference in our research, we looked at everything nebula, Northern Lights and various atmospheric types of conditions,” said Craig Sandvig, digital experience design manager, The Lincoln Motor Company. “We wanted to pay homage to the Earth.” Sandvig, who began working in digital design six years ago, believes the modes offer a perfect example of digital clusters – intricate globe-shaped artwork showcased with just the push of a button. Getting to that point, however, took several trial runs. “We worked with hundreds and hundreds of different globes, studying everything from where each cloud would come in and how it would separate from the atmosphere,” he said. “It’s an artistic effect that’s been brought into everything.” Subtlety was key in creating a luxury feel for each mode, and that’s highlighted throughout the detailing – down to the reflections on each globe. For example, the

image in excite mode, representing sporty driving, shows taillights moving in the night to illustrate the thrill of the drive. The look and feel of excite mode exudes a dimensionality that makes clients feel like they’re driving inside the graphic image itself. For both deep conditions and slippery modes, the team studied placement for each individual snowflake. Deep conditions demonstrates a tire spinning in deep snow, while slippery uses snowflakes and reflections with complex detail down to the lines in the roadway – creating the look and feel of an icy drive. “It’s amazing to see how much went into the development of slippery mode – we wanted to show the snowflakes going from the front of the globe to the back,” said Sandvig. “We went through several trials for this mode to make sure clients could see the road, so we included dashed lines with certain reflections to give that icy road feel.” Sandvig said moving into the digital space has allowed the team to create much more detailed imagery for clients, providing technology that’s easy to understand and use. “The digital space allows us to change and animate things that are not possible within the physical world,” he said. “We were able to create anything we wanted – the modes aren’t required to be static – and we feel that it’s much more rewarding to our clients.”

HYUNDAI TUCSON RANKED MOST DEPENDABLE SMALL SUV BY J.D. POWER

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Feb. 14, 2018 – Hyundai’s Tucson received the distinct honor of most dependable Small SUV by J.D. Power in their 2018 Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS). Released today, the annual Vehicle Dependability Study shows Tucson ranked highest in its class, beating out leading competitors. The Tucson offers sporty styling, outstanding efficiency and cutting-edge safety technologies. Overall, Hyundai scored an impressive sixth-place finish in the entire industry and third-best in the non-premium category, lowering its PP100 by nine problems. The Hyundai Santa Fe also ranked second in its segment.

“In one of the most competitive segments in the industry, Tucson places highest in its class,” said Barry Ratzlaff, vice president of customer satisfaction, Hyundai Motor America. “Hyundai is committed to providing customers with high-value vehicles that withstand the test of time. The quality and dependability of our models is important to reassuring owners that we care about their Hyundai experience beyond their initial purchase at the dealership. The results for Santa Fe and Tucson show, as our CUV lineup expands, long-term quality will be a real strength for us.”

For the 2018 model year, Tucson adds a 7-inch audio display system with expanded availability of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, HD Radio and heated seats. More than 90 percent of 2018 model year Tucsons have these technologies included and are at dealerships now. The study, now in its 29th year, examines problems

experienced during the past 12 months by original owners of 2015 model-year vehicles. Overall dependability is determined by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100), with a lower score reflecting higher quality. The study covers 177 specific problems grouped into eight major vehicle categories. hyundainews.com

The 2018 Elantra Earns Highest Safety Rating by IIHS FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Feb. 9, 2018 – Hyundai is one of the leading brands for Top Safety Pick+ and Top Safety Pick awards in 2018, with a total of eight models being recognized. The 2018 Hyundai Elantra has earned the highest safety rating by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) with a Top Safety Pick+ rating when equipped with optional Automatic Emergency Braking and High Beam Assist on vehicles built after December 2017. The Hyundai Sonata, Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport (built after June 2017) also have Top Safety Pick+ ratings. Today’s announcement marks a total of four Hyundai vehicles attaining the significant safety achievement. Additionally, five Hyundai models were previously recognized for 2018 Top Safety Pick, including the Hyundai’s Ioniq Hybrid, Elantra, Elantra GT, Sonata and Tucson when equipped with optional front crash prevention and specific headlights.

Save More. Get More.

To qualify for the Top Safety Pick award, vehicles must have good ratings in five IIHS crashworthiness tests — small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints, an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention and an acceptable or good headlight rating. For the Top Safety Pick+ designation, vehicles must also gain an acceptable or good rating in passenger-side small overlap front tests and improved headlight rating. Features which helped these vehicles garner these recognitions included (but were not limited to) optional front-crash prevention, specific headlights and excellent performances in IIHS track tests at various speeds. Elantra offers a wide array of advanced safety technologies, often reserved for luxury cars, to provide another defensive safety layer for its passengers beyond the standard safety system. Available Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection is a technology that utilizes both the front forward facing radar and camera through sensor fusion to detect a vehicle or pedestrian, and warn the driver of a potential collision. If the driver does not react to avoid the impact, the system will apply emergency braking in certain circumstances. Additional Elantra-first safety technologies include available Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist System, Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross-traffic Alert and Lane Change Assist, and a rearview camera, now with dynamic guidance. The Lane Keep Assist System uses a forward-facing camera to detect lane markings and will alert the driver if the vehicle drifts outside the lane without signaling. The system will apply corrective steering assistance if necessary, and is another active safety tool to assist Elantra drivers and help prevent accidents. hyundainews.com
