A CRAZY YEAR BY PEER SUPPORT

What a crazy year it has been. From the Coronavirus to the presidential election, 2020 seemed to go by so fast, yet the beginning of the year feels so far away. Even though we’ve had to go online, our school community has been strong and connected. We encourage students to reach out to friends or faculty that they might not have seen in a while. Every hello counts. Happy holidays, and to a boring 2021!

HOLIDAY TRADITIONS

BY SARA HAMADEH ‘22 The Holidays are easily one of my favorite times of the year. To me, there is something so magical about the crisp weather, hot chocolate, and fluffy sweaters. At Bishop’s, one of my favorite traditions is attending the Tree Lighting Ceremony, where I sing with the choir and snack on the many treats offered. Our campus always has beautiful poinsettia flowers and a decorated Christmas tree on the terrace, which help get our community in the spirit. This year, the tree lighting ceremony was done virtually and included

Christmas carols performed by the choirs, a message from Mr. Kim, and ways that different students will be celebrating this holiday season. It was lovely getting to watch members of the Bishop’s community show how they are continuing to get festive and learn about some of the different ways families celebrate. Outside of Bishop’s, my family also has many traditions. One of our favorites is visiting Christmas Card Lane, which is just off of Black Mountain Road, and driving by the many colorful lights and decorations around each house. We sing along to holiday music, drink hot chocolate, and wrap ourselves in blankets as we watch holiday spirit come to life. While Covid-19 has made it difficult for my family to participate in some of our other traditions, we still plan to visit Christmas Card Lane and stay in our car to remain socially distanced from others around us without missing out on the holiday fun! My family also loves to decorate the Christmas tree, bake holiday sugar cookies, and watch holiday movies. There are many simple ways to celebrate the holidays, even during this difficult year. Please take the time to relax and enjoy the holidays, while staying socially distanced, of course! - Sara Hamadeh
