Every year we welcome thousands of artists, leaders and researchers from around the world, along with more than 80,000 audience members. This fall, immerse yourself in outstanding music, art and performance featuring exceptional artists, writers and musicians. Experience the unexpected with over 30 Pay What You Can and Free events. Take in Hofesh Shechter Company’s launch of their North American tour with barbarians as part of Springboard Performance’s 2015 Fluid Festival. Or find a seat at Salman Rushdie’s only Western Canada appearance. Plus there’s the excitement of the 40th Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival along with the return of Banff Centre favourites including Soweto Gospel Choir and Tanya Tagaq. We are honoured and humbled to be located on sacred territory in Treaty 7 First Nations, home to the Blackfoot, Stoney Nakoda and Tsuut’ina Nations. The Banff Centre is located on Sleeping Buffalo Mountain, which holds spiritual and cultural significance for the many Indigenous nations that have travelled here throughout the millennia. We continue to bring people together from around the world to celebrate conversation, creativity and ideas through our events, arts and leadership programs and conferences. The Banff Centre is grateful to the Government of Canada, the Government of Alberta, and the many corporations, foundations and individuals who generously support our programs and participants. This support enables The Banff Centre to Inspire Creativity in Alberta and around the world. Buy tickets: banffcentre.ca

Polaris prize-winning Inuit throat singer Tanya Tagaq is in a category all her own. In this live concert with film, she fuses her voice with musical talents to create a mesmerizing and original soundscape for Nanook of the North, the controversial 1922 silent film which portrays Inuit culture through a European lens. Tagaq’s powerful throat singing combined with violinist Jesse Zubot and percussionist Jean Martin’s improvisatory genius - and Juno Award-winning composer Derek Charke’s original soundscape score reveal Nanook in a contemporary light. Also featured is a new composition created at The Banff Centre as part of Indigenous Arts’ Re(Claim) Residency, a new interdisciplinary program ‘reclaiming’ the era of silent films made about Indigenous peoples.

barbarians A TRILOGY BY HOFESH SHECHTER The infinitely unpredictable dancer, choreographer and Sadler’s Wells Associate Artist Hofesh Shechter presents a sparse world for three wildly different takes on intimacy, passion and the banality of love. From the elegant and nervy baroqueinspired choreography of the opening to a poignant duet, via a trance-like underground groove, this evening showcases the singular and wry voice of Shechter together with the versatility and talent of his dancers. “Superb stuff: juicy, nervy ensembles and a wittily unsettling commentary.” –The Guardian on the barbarians in love (London, February 2015)
