As the air cools and summer fades out all the wonderful changes in the weather let us know that Fall has officially arrived. One of the most favorite seasons of Florida is here which follows with the Holiday cheer. I know you may be thinking that Thanksgiving, Christmas and the holidays are not too close but who are we kidding, by the time we blink it will be the New Year. With all the talk about the economy in the news I don’t need to tell you that saving money is the only option these days so let’s not talk about how to save money let’s do it. Below I have listed the best ways to use barter for the Holidays and instead of reading them and not taking my advice try it out this holiday season. Gift Giving Ideas & Who to Give to

• Gift Certificates What: Restaurants, Spas, Salons, Massage Therapists, Vacations, Hotels, Make Up, Perfumes, Comedy Clubs, Theatres, etc. Who: These are especially good for the picky person who never keeps the gift you give them. They have the option to buy what they really like and be happy. • Showroom Gifts What: Cameras, Vases, Candles, Candle Holders, Jewelry, Wallets, Toys, and much more. Who: These are great for people you know very well like family members or a best friend, who tells you what they like. • Personalized Gifts What: You can engrave a plaque, clock, name plate and much more for a personalized touch. Gifts that can be engraved with a personal touch can be created by AAA Trophies. Who: Close friends, children’s teachers, and people who deserve recognition. • Employee Accounts What: These are new barter accounts opened for employees so that they can spend barter money through a personalized account. The employee receives an account number and can use the money you transfer into it with any member of the barter network. These accounts work great for company bonuses or additional raises. Who: Company Employees www.TheBarterNetwork.net

TIMING By: Gene Rankin

I was just thinking about timing and how it can really affect things that take place in everyday life. You know like if you hadn’t forgotten your phone and had to rush back to get it, then maybe you could have avoided a speeding ticket. But, if you actually had been on time and with your phone, chatting away, and you didn’t see that truck cross the median, then maybe it would have been you in that multicar pileup on I-4. It’s called the butterfly effect. And if you ever go back in time, DON’T change anything! Don’t forget that. If you change one thing in the past, or present for that matter, it can have catastrophic effects. Or maybe no effect at all depending on how boring you are. And right now of course everyone is saying, “If I had money now I’d buy up some cheap real estate”. DUHH, no joke. We all know right now that money is tight; we also know that at some point in the future things are going to improve. The trick between now and then is to hang on to as much money as possible to be ready for the new beginning. And how do I propose you do that? Barter. If you’re not calling our office five times

a week to see if we have what you’re getting ready to spend cash on, then you don’t get it. Everything is not available on barter. But so many things that we all spend cash on each month are there for the asking. Trust me, my account stays near zero all the time. I try to build it up, but I’d rather use trade instead of my credit card. Please try it! And, you are also helping another small business person at the same time. Everybody wins! Except of course, our good friend, Mr. Obama. He is

being attacked by healthcare people on both sides, Afghanistan is kicking our butts, Iran is going nuclear and so he’s taking a trip to Copenhagen to do some partying to try to convince them to bring the Olympics back to Chicago in 2012. Now that’s timing. This is a future stimulus package I’ve been told. Anyway, call me and let’s talk barter.

You need to understand the concept of trade and bartering, in order to find its place in your business. If your business is going so well you do not need advertising, or additional and new business, then bartering is probably not for you. However, if your business is struggling, or there are gaps in the calendar then you may want to consider trading. As with the lawn maintenance company, with time blocks open in certain areas. You could fill those blocks with trade members, with little to no additional expense, earn trade dollars and additional word of mouth advertising, (now, add the word of mouth advertising with the advertising you can generate with the trade dollars and you have a big promotion going on...)

“what do you want for your business”

If your are a retail establishment and you can not keep your shelves stocked, then you probably do not need the extra flow trade members can bring, but if you possibly have older merchandise that is taking up your retail space, or would like to move the merchandise you currently have a little quicker, then Barter may be the answer, you will get a new set of clients, as well as

their cash carrying friends, then use your trade dollars to pay for the business cards or flyer printing. Again this is a win, win scenario. For the fitness centers and gyms if a few more people in the facility would not make a difference, then barter may help. A few trade memberships and the friends and family they may bring (with cash) could make the difference, and then using the trade dollars to purchase radio advertising would be another plus. The logic of trade all comes down to ‘what do you want for your business, if you are already overworked, then more business is not going to help. Most of us however could use a little extra help, That’s what trading and bartering is for, which would then translate into the word of mouth advertising we all could use, and the generated trade dollars used to your benefit can either enhance the overall business with advertising, printing, and employee incentives, etc or benefit the personal life with trips, restaurants, activities and personal care. The next time you want to say, I need cash not trade, consider all the possibilities trade has to offer. Cash may be king, but trade is definitely a prince of an option.
