Spring 2008 Tradeshow

Read all about it! Some call us the new kids on the block, some call us a change in the barter industry, either way we are paving the way for a barter revolution. As one of the newest barter companies in Central Florida we are defying all of the limitations that our competitors have set for our success. Our goals have been to keep up to date with technology, provide great customer service, and grow at a rate of 20-30 members per month. These goals were set for accountability to our members, to show them not only that we are working hard but that we are doing business responsibly and honestly. These goals have improved our company so dramatically that our competitors are taking notice and adding them to their company’s goals as well.

Gene Rankin

New Staff Member As many of you may know Gene Rankin has joined the Barter Network force. Gene has over 26 years in the Barter Industry, both as a Member, and as a Broker / Sales Represenative.

With the success of the 2007 Trade Show, we see a clear and prosperous year in 2008. To continue that success we are bringing the great energy from 2007 to the 2008 Spring Tradeshow. This is our time to excite the members about trade and to also thank and remind our members of the great importance they bring to our organization. We believe that each member adds to the great recipe that we are (Continued on page 11

BARTER You Should Know's By; Susan Hummell

Below are a few of the important things I have learned, please let me share them with you: Call in your transaction as soon as it happens, (not unlike accepting cash payment), this should take place as soon as the totals are made and the service is rendered or the product changes owners. This works best for all concerned in many ways, you know the client has enough trade dollars to cover the transaction, and the client hasn’t spent his dollars twice. How many times have we checked our balances and found more money than we expected‌ only to purchase something else, and then the original transaction goes through to leave a negative balance? Processing the transaction can be done in a couple different ways; online, choose the Transaction icon, then New transaction, fill in the blanks and submit. If that is too scary (worried you could mess things up!) you can call the office and someone can post the transaction for you. Dial (407) 641-0221 and choose option 5, and a real person will process your transaction for you. Continued on page 11

What is trade good for ? By: Susan Hummell

Someone asked me the other day, “What is trade good for?” My answer to that was “Whatever you want.” It is what you make of it. If you need a business tool, barter can increase your business by word of mouth from members to their non member (cash paying) friends and associates. If you need to be kept busy, barter can offer a flow of clients to your business and your rewards will work towards your goals. Your Trade dollars work FOR you, plan ahead of time… As soon as I have enough trade dollars I want? A vacation, advertising, massage, home remodel, family time

out to restaurants, gifts for employees? My personal trade account is used for the auto mechanic, restaurants, hair salons, TBN showroom, Comedy Clubs, etc. I use my trade account quicker than it comes in. If your account grows quickly, call me before you spend your cash to see if those products or services are available on The Barter Network… The worse time to find out we have new members is right after you spent your cash on a product or service that is available on trade. Make this opportunity work for you, just a few moments of planning can make the difference.

Barter Business Thoughts By: Gene Rankin

Barter as we all know has been happening for as long as time has been recorded. Horses, pigs, chickens, corn, wagons and even a few farmer's daughters. Times have changed but a few things remain constant. Everyone wants to make sure that they get fair market value for their product. In effect one horse does not equal one chicken. Unless, your chicken is related to the “Goose that Lays Golden Eggs”, or the other guys horse only has 3 legs. That’s why working with The Barter Network gives business owners peace of mind when doing a barter transaction. You simply sell your product or supply your service and price it as you normally would. Then whenever you need to spend those trade dollars you can check the price and quality of the item or service. If you are happy with your purchase you can move forward with the deal. YOU have a choice.

4 www.TheBarterNetwork.net

Barter purchases are no different then any cash purchase you’ve ever made. Do your research and make an educated decision. When you are selling your product the same philosophy applies. If your company overcharges or gives bad service you’re not going to build your business. Everyone likes to refer someone who does really good work. You build your business by taking care of each and every customer like your life depended on it. Because it kinda does. The other constant about bartering is most business owners enjoy the friends that they’ve made along the way. I’ve been doing barter since 1982 and many businesses have come and gone, but the relationships I’ve made over the years have remained Priceless.

Although you are using your barter money how efficiently are you using it? There are many ways you can improve the success of your business by reevaluating the efficiency of your barter account. The steps below are some of the ways your business can stay successful during these hard economical times:

create and deliver thank you baskets, purchase an ad in the trade newsletter or purchase a booth for the 2008 tradeshow, etc. 3. Everyone needs a break, so take a spring or summer vacation with the family. Go somewhere fun and enjoy your stay on barter. A break always helps to relieve the stress and tension in a busy work schedule and can help improve your state of mind for the 2nd half of the business year.

The Economy - Tough Times By Jason Bergenske

In the current “Cash Economy” things are bad and possibly going to get worse. Food, gas and many everyday needs of consumers are growing in cost far faster than the published inflation rate and affecting many of the high, middle, and lower class wage earners.
