WALSH PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE COMPLEX HISTORY

The Walsh Physical Performance Complex was constructed in 1996 and dedicated to F. Howard Walsh--a former TCU Board of Trustees member--along with his wife, Mary D. Fleming-Walsh. Overlooking the south end zone, the nearly 22,182-square-foot complex is home to the Sports Medicine Center, football locker room and equipment room in addition to housing offices and dressing rooms for athletics staff members, coaches and student-athletes. The area formerly housed TCU’s previous strength and conditioning facility for more than 15 years prior to the addition of the Physical Performance Center in 2011. The Walsh received its second facelift in Summer 2012 as part of the $164 million renovation of Amon G. Carter Stadium. With the relocation of the former weight room, a large amount of space was freed up leading to the expansion of the Sports Medicine and equipment areas, as well as the addition of a brand new football locker room.

SPORTS MEDICINE

The Walsh Complex Athletic Training Room is situated near the football locker room and features multiple treatment tables and rehabilitation equipment that is essential in helping injured student-athletes get back on their feet. Among the enhancements to TCU’s all-new Sports Medicine Center in 2012 were aquatic rehab pools that help provide the latest in recovery techniques. Additional hyperbaric oxygen chambers also were included, while TCU became the first NCAA program to install a cryotherapy chamber, which further aids in speedy recovery.

EQUIPMENT

TCU’s equipment area more than doubled in 2012 thanks to the Walsh Complex renovation. Included among the new additions are the latest in organization and space-saving technology to better serve each of the Horned Frogs’ 21 varsity sports.

LOCKER ROOM

TCU’s brand new football locker room, which debuted in time for the 2012 season, measures more than 8,000 square feet and features one of the most advanced and custom-designed locker spaces in all of college football. The new locker room took over the space occupied by the former strength and conditioning area.
