Fort Worth, Texas (University Rec Center) Sept. 15, 2012 FORT WORTH - TCU senior Megan Munce became the program’s all-time leader in service aces Saturday as the Horned Frogs rolled to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-13) win over Lehigh in the finale of the TCU Molten Invitational inside the University Rec Center. In an ending fit for a storybook, Munce broke the all-time TCU serve mark on the match’s final point, serving an ace as TCU polished off a 25-13 set three win and 3-0 triumph. Munce now has 163 career aces at TCU and broke Nirelle Hampton’s mark of 162 from 2005 to 2008. The Frogs worked themselves into a bit of a hole midway through the first set, as Lehigh used a 5-0 run to take a 14-10 lead. After TCU battled back to get within two at 17-15, the Frogs rattled off the next five points to seize control of set one. Lehigh made things interesting at 20-19, but five of the set’s next six points went to the Frogs, who polished off a 25-20 set one win. Lehigh scored the second set’s first four points before the Frogs won eight of the next nine to take an 8-5 lead and force a Mountain Hawk timeout. TCU never trailed again in the set and won 14 of 17 points after trailing 4-0 and won the set 25-19. The third set was all TCU as the Frogs tallied 11 kills and were helped by nine Lehigh errors on their way to a 25-13 set three win.

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. - Trailing 0-2 in its Big 12 debut, TCU’s women’s volleyball team came back to stun West Virginia on Saturday, 3-2 (24-26, 20-25, 25-16, 26-24, 15-2), inside the WVU Coliseum. Following the intermission after set two, TCU came out rolling in the match’s third set, racing to an 11-5 lead. The Frogs stretched their lead to 18-11 on an Yvonne Igodan kill to force a WVU timeout.The Mountaineers twice got as close as four in the third set at 19-15, but TCU picked up six of the next seven points to finish off a 25-16 set three triumph and cut the lead to 2-1. In a thrilling fourth set defined by runs, the Frogs found themselves trailing 13-6 after a Mountaineer kill. Resilient TCU responded with an 11-0 run while freshman Sutton Sunstrum was on the base line. TCU never trailed for the remainder of the set, but WVU was able to knot the set at 24. A WVU service error followed by a Kirby kill allowed the Frogs to knot the match at 2 with a 26-24 set four win. After tying the match at 2, the fifth set was all TCU. West Virginia would score only twice to make it an 8-2 Frog lead. A TCU sideout, followed by six-straight points on serving specialist Fleming Smurthwaite’s serve allowed the Frogs to complete the comeback with a 15-2 set five win.

Fort Worth, Texas (University Rec Center) Sept. 26, 2012 FORT WORTH - TCU’s women’s volleyball team stayed undefeated in Big 12 play Wednesday evening with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-15) win over Texas Tech in front of a sold out University Rec Center. TCU broke open the first set with an 8-1 run midway through the opening frame. With the Frogs trailing 11-12, two Megan Munce kills and a Sloane Sunstrum kill and block on back-to-back points made it 19-13 in favor of the home team.Texas Tech got within five, but the Frogs were able to close out the first set 25-17. The second set was more of the same for TCU as the Frogs forced an early Red Raider timeout with a 4-0 run to take a 10-6 lead. Tech appeared to be ready to get back into the set when they got within one at 12-11, but the Frogs extended the lead to 19-15, compliments of two Sunstrum kills. TCU held onto its lead and took a 2-0 lead into the break with a 25-19 set two win. Munce assisted on 11 of the 16 TCU kills in the set. Following the intermission, TCU came out firing on all cylinders in the third set, racing out to a 10-3 lead highlighted by back-to-back Munce aces. Tech was finally forced to take a timeout after TCU extended the lead to 18-7 on back-to-back Yvonne Igodan kills. The squads exchanged points the rest of the way and TCU coasted to a 25-15 set three triumph and 3-0 win over its interstate foe.
