Fort Worth, Texas (Daniel-Meyer Coliseum) Dec. 31, 2011 FORT WORTH — TCU fought back from a double-digit second-half deficit to gain the lead, but Tulsa was able to hold off the Horned Frogs late, 74-66, Saturday evening at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. Senior guard Hank Thorns led the Frogs in scoring for the teambest sixth time this season with 16 points. He set a new career high in 3-pointers made while drilling 4-of-6 attempts from beyond the arc, and three of the treys came while he helped lead TCU’s comeback bid with 11 second-half points. Senior forward Craig Williams, who totaled 11 points, scored in double figures for the third straight game before fouling out midway through the second half. Junior guard/forward Garlon Green also added 11 while going 7-of-9 at the charity stripe. Senior guard J.R. Cadot led TCU in rebounding with eight boards and also chipped in two blocked shots and three steals. As a team, the Frogs totaled 10 thefts. TCU trailed by 10 points at intermission and as many as 12 points early in the second half before turning its effort around. The Frogs relied on pressure defense to force turnovers and create easy baskets, while the team also was able to find its way to the free-throw line.

TCU 78, RICE 74

Fort Worth, Texas (Daniel-Meyer Coliseum) Jan. 4, 2012 FORT WORTH — TCU erased a six-point deficit in the game’s final minutes with three late 3-pointers and some shut-down defense to down Rice, 78-74. TCU, which led by five points at halftime, found itself trailing by six points with just over four-and-a-half minutes remaining before the Frogs came to life. Senior guard Hank Thorns hit a 3-pointer to cut the deficit in half before junior guard Nate Butler knotted the game up at 69-69 on another trey with 2:32 remaining. Sophomore forward Amric Fields followed by putting the Frogs up for good with a third straight 3-pointer at the 1:30 mark. Fields and Thorns then pushed the lead to seven points with only 41 seconds left by each adding 2-for-2 efforts at the line. While the Frog offense made the necessary plays to grab the lead, it was the squad’s defensive effort that truly rose to the occasion late. TCU held the Owls scoreless from the 5:06 mark until guard Dylan Ennis’ traditional 3-point play with only 37 seconds remaining. Rice went 0-for-7 from the field during the crucial stretch. After Ennis’ play cut the lead to 76-72, Thorns and Green both added single free throws to help secure the TCU victory. Fields led the Frogs Wednesday, matching his season scoring high of 18 points and his career rebounding best of six boards. Eleven of Fields’ point total came in the second half, while he went 7-of-11 overall from the field and 2-of-5 from beyond the arc.

TCU 88, UTPA 58

Fort Worth, Texas (Daniel-Meyer Coliseum) Jan. 11, 2012 FORT WORTH — TCU rolled in its final Mountain West tune-up, posting an 88-58 win over Texas-Pan American at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. The Horned Frogs scored the game’s first 18 points before coasting to victory. Craig Williams and Hank Thorns led all Frogs Wednesday with 16 points each. Williams made 5-of-9 field-goal attempts and 6-of-7 free throws, while Thorns went 7-of-10 from the field, including 2-of-4 from 3-point range. Williams added six rebounds. Also reaching double figures were Garlon Green and Amric Fields with 14 points apiece, while J.R. Cadot totaled eight points. Green, Fields and Thorns combined to shoot 6-of-11 from 3-point range Nate Butler led TCU on the glass with a career- and game-high nine rebounds, helping the Frogs outrebound the Broncs by a 41-30 margin. Kyan Anderson dished out a career- and game-best seven assists and totaled three assists, while Adrick McKinney also collected three steals to go with six points and six boards. TCU dominated the lane throughout the game, posting a 46-16 scoring advantage in the paint, while it also leaned on its defensive pressure to force 22 UTPA miscues that resulted in a 31-11 edge in points off turnovers. The inside effort generated several easy looks at the basket, and the Frogs were able to capitalize throughout the contest. The squad finished the game shooting 52.4% overall from the field while holding the Broncs to a rate of only 36.8%.
