LITTLE SUTTON NE UPDATES FROM THE LITTLE SUTTON VILLAGE ADVISORY GROUP Litter picking date The Positive Action for Little Sutton Group (PALS) and the Little Sutton Sapphires Women’s Institute (WI) are organising a litter pick starting at the Community Centre and Library between 10am -12pm on Saturday 7th July. Volunteers are needed and encouraged to support this initiative which aims to try and improve our village. Vests, Litter Pickers and bags will be supplied with light refreshments in the Community Centre.
Big changes at shopping parade For several months the new owners of the Blue Shopping Parade have been carrying out structural changes to convert the old McColls store into a Dominos Pizza and a Subway. Significant changes have taken place both internally and externally, with the blue wall replaced with large windows. It is now understood that Subway will not be taking up the option at the front of the building.
Vandalism on Ledsham Road Further incidents have been reported of anti-social behaviour by youths on the open area of land in front of the Redrow Housing Development. Residents suffering with ASB are advised to report any incidents to the Police using 101 (non emergency number). The land is owned by Redrow and not the Council.
Village welcome signs The Little Sutton Village Centre Advisory Group is currently in discussions with Cheshire West and Chester Council Highways Department with a view to having welcome sign� at the entry points of the village. Detailed plans are being drawn up with costings and we hope to see these implemented before the end of 2018

EWSLETTER Village centre improvements A proposal to bring Improvements to Little Sutton Village Centre has been designed and a period of public consultation runs until Tuesday 3rd July. A book of memories The Ellesmere Port Local and Family History Society have spent the last 18 months researching and compiling a book illustrating the history of Little Sutton. The book contains almost 150 pages of historical facts, village folk memories, anecdotes and experiences, together with numerous photographic images. The book will be available to purchase for ÂŁ12 from Little Sutton Library, Ellesmere Port Library and the National Waterways Museum.
Redrow housing development There has been no activity on site since Christmas and the number of occupations remains at 124 in respect of Phase 1. Redrow are yet to purchase Phase 2 land from the owners, Naylor Estates. The tenant farmers have now sowed this area which will be harvested in August/ September. It seems unlikely that any more houses will be occupied before summer 2019 which may affect any financial contributions due towards the Public Realm Improvements.

Don't get fat this summer BBQ and wine on a Friday evening when the sun is out - there has to be nothing nicer. Few beers and it’s time to relax and tuck into the massive feast of endless meats and nibbles. Us Brits like to take full advantage of the good weather when we have it, making the most of the late evenings with wine and goodies. Here’s how to make it a little less indulgent so we don’t get fat this summer. Choose lean meats for a BBQ, chicken breasts marinated in a spicy sauce with a salad with no dressing is actually a really good option for healthy eating. Staying away from processed meats such as burgers and sausages is wise but cutting out the buns can save yourself unnecessary calories. Steaks with a sweet potato are another healthier alternative to the processed meats. Portion control is something to be mindful of also. People often when buying for the weekend treats buy double, even triple the amount they actually will need, yet find it very easy to consume the lot in one sitting. An average cheese burger is 317 calories, hot dogs 155 calories, 90 calories per rib, potato salad is 357 calories per cup, 150 calories per bottle of beer, white wine 121 calories per glass. So, adding this up for an average meal, 1 hot dog, 1 burger, 4 beers, salad 5 ribs that’s without any other bits you might have we’re near to 1,900 calories in one meal without added extras. Add on extra drinks, all your food from the rest of the day and it’s easy to see how weight can creep on. Exercise is also something that may go out the window when the weather is nice. Do you
go to your regular exercise when it’s 30 degrees outside answer is probably no! However, work hard in the week and the weekends might not be so bad. Skip the hard work in the week and over indulge at the weekends and it’s no wonder your hot pants are feeling a little tighter. It’s useful to get your old summer clothes out a few months before the summer months to allow time to see where you re at. If work needs to be done this gives you time to get sorted and get yourself back on track, trying to squeeze back into last year’s clothes when you only have two weeks to do it in isn’t the best idea. So be mindful of portions, how much you have already consumed throughout the day and about picking the healthier options. Kayaking to raise hospice funds Danielle Percival-Cowie, from Ellesmere Port, is organising a Kayaking Day along the River Dee on Saturday 28th July to raise vital funds for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd. Danielle has organised the event in memory of her father, Stuart Cowie, who was cared for at the Hospice and sadly died in July last year after six months of suffering from cancer of the peritoneal (lining of the abdomen). The family believed this was a fitting tribute as Stuart always loved water and was a keen kayaker and this was one of his regular routes. Danielle said “My dad was given the most compassionate end of life care he or us family could wish for. The staff went out of their way to ensure he was comfortable and given the best treatment along with great support care for the family members, ensuring we were happy too. “Having this happy and peaceful environment meant we were put at ease in this nightmare as he was given exceptional 24-hour care. I am truly happy my dad spent his last few days where he wished, and the service he was given in his last week went above and beyond expectations. “Even after he died, care still continued for us from the nurses and bereavement team,
they advised and comforted us through a very difficult time. They gave us time to grieve and ensured we were fed and watered and really looked after.” Hospice of the Good Shepherd is a local independent charity providing end of life care and support for patients, their families and carers living with cancer and other life limiting illnesses in Chester, West Cheshire, Ellesmere Port and Deeside. Tackling loneliness for elderly men A new project which aims to combat social isolation in men and women over the age of 50 has launched in Ellesmere Port. Not Ready Yet! is a Brightlife funded project (part of the Big Lottery Ageing Better programme) and is run by MHA’s Live at Home scheme, based in Overpool. Aimed at bridging the retirement gap, it will look to support residents in Ellesmere Port who are facing the prospect of retiring early whether that be through redundancy, ill health or caring responsibilities. Retiring at any age can be life-changing but doing so before you’re ultimately ready can have a huge impact on mental health, leaving many feeling isolated or depressed. Not Ready Yet! will be splitting its focus
between two groups – for those who wish to return to the workplace, the project will put together a variety of employability activities such as confidence building sessions and CV workshops. Alongside this a number of social groups are being arranged for those who are unable to return to work but are looking for a new purpose or to widen their circle of friends and support networks. Forthcoming activities include a weekly walking group, woodworking classes, gardening as well as a weekly social coffee morning/lunch club – if you are interested in participating in any of these events or becoming a volunteer for the project you can contact Heather Collin on heather.collin@ mha.org.uk or call 0151 357 3873. Carlton Crescent – Three handbags were stolen in a house burglary. Heswall Road – An Apple Mac book and two Denon MC4000 mixing decks were stolen in a burglary. Radway Green – A red Suzuki motorbike was stolen from outside a house. Capenhurst Lane – The front registration plate on a Seat Leon was taken. Hillcrest Drive – A Ford Galaxy was damaged with a dent in the door and a window smashed. Painswick Road – Tyres were let down on the same vehicle for the umpteenth time. A 26-year-old woman claims that she was sexually assaulted sometime between midnight Saturday 2nd June and 1am on Sunday 3rd June as she walked from the station on Overpool Road towards the Royston Close area. A 34-year-old man was arrested as part of police enquiries and has since been released without charge. Police are working towards establishing the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and specialist officers are supporting the victim at this difficult time. Detectives have been speaking to residents in the area and trawling CCTV as part of their enquiries and are keen to speak to anyone who may have information on the assault. DCI Mike Ankers said: “Were you on the train coming back from Liverpool or at the Overpool Train Station around midnight that night? Did you see anything suspicious or anyone acting suspiciously on the train or at the station? We’d also like to speak to anyone who was in the Overpool area that night and saw or heard something but have not yet spoken to police. “We are also appealing for anyone who may have driven or cycled past with dash cam footage. Detectives investigating family gold burglaries across the North West have charged an 18-year-old man. Larry Berry, of Eccleston Avenue in Ellesmere Port, was arrested and charged with three burglaries, two driving while disqualified offences, aggravated vehicle taking and two offences of driving without insurance. He has been remanded into custody and will appear at Chester Crown Court on 6th July. The charges relate to a burglary on Trumans Lane, in Little Sutton, on New Year’s Day and two burglaries in Oldham on 10th January.

The two under 11st teams emerged with great credit in their first Pontins weekender. The 11s Raiders went unbeaten all weekend while the Bandits finished fourth.
The threadbare Under 12s Cheerios squad performed brilliantly, winning their age group.
Success has come easily for the Under 13s Tigers team who have lost only one game in the last three years. The girls didn’t disappoint this year, sweeping away all competition and roaring to a convincing win against Middlesbrough team Grangetown in the final.
Netball girls have fun in the sun Chester Netball team enjoyed a phenomenally successful weekend at the Pontins tournament recently. The girls, who come from Chester and Ellesmere Port, were victorious in several age groups – and also had a great time off the court! Right: It was a magnificent seven wins on the Saturday for the Under 14s team. Wins in the quarters and semis were followed by a narrow defeat to Grangetown in the final on the Sunday.
